I had never heard of a Borzoi before Shuukura and started seeing it everywhere after that (Baader-Meinhof phenomenon in action).
I was surprised to see what it looked like when I looked it up because Miyagi and Sendai both talked about the breed as being elegant and graceful or something like along those lines. I mean...yeah I can see how the dog's body can be described like that, but their face can look pretty goofy with that long snout:

Oh damn, I really didn't see that final moment coming. Nanase's going dark now, huh? I'm wondering now how much that huge bruise on Yuni's leg was actually accidental, after seeing her throw her friend into the wall hard enough to knock her hairpin loose. Yuni was stopped wide out in the open when Nanase ran into her and there's no good excuse for why she did, except that Yuni in that moment was very obviously staring at Fuuko. I'd previously thought that Nanase wasn't bad, just a bad girlfriend for Yuni specifically. Now I'm not so sure.

Edit: double checked last chapter, Yuni wasn't even standing out of place when Nanase hit her. She was exactly where she was supposed to be, and Nanase should have been running in a different lane, since judging by the hair of the girl who told Yuni to get ready, Yuni and Nanase are on different teams. there's no reasonable way for Yuni looking at Fuuko to lead to a collision. I think it's actually possible Nanase kneed Yuni's leg on purpose in anger over seeing her checking out Fuuko, possibly not expecting the result to be so bad, since she seems genuinely surprised/worried in the immediate aftermath.

Not buying it and I'll eat my shoe if this turns out to be the case. Because:

1. I don't feel this is the type of manga that will make one of the characters abusive. It would immediately cast Nanase as a villain when the author has so far made all the characters simply "flawed".
2. The author would have hinted more about it than what we've seen. This work is a lot of things, but "subtle" is rarely one of them. Not that being straightforward is a bad thing. (Or I suppose "gayforward" in this case :P)

Edit: Looking at the most recent chapter, I think the author is using the crash as symbolism for how Nanase treats Yuni in general (not paying enough attention to her and being oblivious to how she's feeling in general), with how Fuuko called her out directly on it with "Aren't you way too oblivious to what's in front of you? You're really not paying any attention to Yuni-chan at all, are you?"

2nd Edit: The "oblivious" comment can also be read as Fuuko taunting Nanase that she was oblivious when Yuni had previously been cheating on her and is now oblivious that Yuni is cheating on her again.

Thinking back to when I read this in the MTL, it might have been this chapter that made me first think "wow they're finally making tons of progress! Maybe soon they'll be ready to admit their feelings!"
But of course we know, many chapters later, that they're still dancing around admitting their feelings! Shuukura is just masterful at writing minor relationship progress in a way that feels like major progress. That drip-feed of progress keeps you coming back for more without feeling like things are dragging. Well...most of the time. There have been a few occasions where I wish the author would get on with it a bit.

Ooh boy, you have no idea how ridiculous I am. I already have a plan of someday getting another black cat and a Maine Coon and naming them Miyagi and Sendai. I currently have two 3-year-old females, one who is ridiculously in love with me, so it will be about 10 years or so until I can implement this plan lol. And yes, I am a crazy cat person.

I talked to your other cats and they say they very much want a couple of younger sisters. Think about all the sad cuties waiting to be adopted! :(

Well I'm very cat-like in nature and prefer...both! But I prefer having cats because they're more independent and better handle being alone while I'm gone.

Yowch, no takers on my Shimamura/Adachi conspiracy theories eh? I've only read the manga, so their relationship has probably evolved. Maybe burden's the wrong word? She just thinks of her as like a little sister she has to take care of. Which is fine, she doesn't resent her for that, but she doesn't see it as a source of strength either.

Yeah other than during Adachi's infamous rant and maybe a couple of other times, Shimamura never has any negative thoughts about Adachi. I do want to say the thought she now has 2 younger sisters has crossed her mind, but I can't specifically recall it.

Do you guys think even if Miyagi wasn't so insecure, she would still be a spiky lil guy? I dunno, I just prefer to read the story as that she wouldn't be, because I like the idea of Miyagi being touch-starved and Miyagi standing in Miyagi's way like a true dumbass. But maybe you never stop being a spiky lil guy, even if you're a happy spiky lil guy, y'know?

I think Miyagi would be much more agreeable to displays of affection if she wasn't plagued by worries that Sendai might get tired of her and leave some day. I think that holds her back a lot.

A large part of what stands out about Adachi to Shima are those quirks she has. They likely wouldn't be together, or as close, without those quirks. Shima says as much a few times, directly and indirectly.

I know I'm said it before in this thread but it applies here too: Thank God Miyagi/Adachi found Sendai/Shimamura, because ain't nobody else putting up with their shit! (affectionate)

I think Sendai has the perfect view of Miyagi as a stray black cat. She takes a while to warm up to someone but even once she does she'll still bite them from time to time. I've dealt with a few stray cats at my house over the years, they seem drawn to my place because I have a few other cats. And I swear the one that took the longest to become friendly with me was the only black one that's ever come around. Even once it got to the point where he would let me pet him he would occasionally get ornery and claw or try to bite me.

I hope "Miyagi" is on your short list for names if any other ornery stray cats that try to adopt you.

And I've also encountered that type of cat that is very selective on when and how much it'll let you pet them and they are definitely Miyagi-like. Sometimes no petting is allowed at all and you'll get a bite if you try (like her pushing Sendai away and kicking her shin/stepping on foot. Sometimes petting is acceptable...but only for just a bit and then you're getting bit!

It doesn't feel like "mid-autumn" in my neck of the woods but I've seen sillier excuses to have a party.

I get cold pretty easily, so if anything, it feels more like it's mid-winter already.

But the mid-autumn festival is celebrated based on the lunar calendar instead of the Gregorian calendar, so the date might not always make sense.

Xiaoen was adopted by a very old couple, thus technically putting her in much higher generation than she'd normally be compared to her peers, and Xiaoyang is giving himself that same status as her brother. Like if the town founders were the first generation and youngest generation furthest down the line are the seventh, Xiaoen's parents are fourth generation, making her technically fifth generation, equal to some people in town who already have grandkids. That's how I understood it at least. I don't actually know if there are from measuring from some founding family or what, and it's obviously not that practically important of a topic given all the new people moving into town. It's mostly just like a minor detail that's technically supposed to inform manners and how people are addressed, but isn't really practical or enforced beyond being like a bit of trivia, thus why the old woman laughs at Xiaoyang claiming to be the same generation instead of feeling like he's being disrespectful or anything.

Shimamura sees Adachi as a burden, but Sendai thinks the opposite of Miyagi.

It's been a bit since I read any AdaShima but I don't recall Shimamura seeing Adachi as a burden. A pain in the ass at times, sure, but she still enjoys being with her and doesn't feel like it's something she does out of obligation or anything like that.

I don't usually celebrate these things, but I got roped into attending a mid-autumn festival party. I was planning to push part 77 out today (because it's also really cute), but dang, I'm tired. Fortunately, parts 77 and 78 don't look very long, so if we're lucky and the me of tomorrow feels motivated enough, we can get another double update out.

I find that every time I write Sendai's name, I always attach "-san" to the end of it since I've been typing out her name so much. Perks of being able to type faster than I can think, I guess.

But people do funny things with the names. I love Himi but wonder why they go out of their way to always refer to Maika by her family name when her given name is much shorter and used much more often in the story.
And there's somebody who occasionally posts Shuukura related content on Reddit where the title has "Sendai San" with the "-" omitted and the "San" captilized like it's her other name. Makes me imagine people calling her "San-san" and giggle to myself a bit.

Same here. Thankfully Shuukura didn't take the same approach with physical romance. It was almost impressive that with as many volumes as AdaShima has we didn't even get one kiss scene. I guess the story always was more about their emotional connection rather than their physical one though.

Thankfully it's well written overall, because between the glaring absence of physical affection, the weird alien girl, and the side couple I don't care about at all, there's a lot of stuff about the series I'm not a fan of.

I was thinking the other day about how similar Miyagi and Adachi are in respect to their home life. Both without any siblings living with a single parent that they never talk to. I just kind of assume Miyagi has the same type of relationship with her father that Adachi has with her mother as we've never seen the two interact. I may be wrong but that's the impression I get. It could also just be that the author has never found it relevant to show any interaction between them so we don't really know.

Yeah Miyagi has thought back on her interactions with her father enough to paint us a clear picture of their situation without needing to show them interacting directly.
And yeah, both Miyagi and Adachi have developed issues with attachment as a direct result of their problematic home life. Thankfully they each found someone who'll put up with their considerable weirdness.

I think it's funny to imagine a meeting between the four girls. I can just see Miyagi and Adachi sitting there glaring daggers at each other thinking don't touch my woman, while Sendai and Shimamura sit there having a pleasant chat. Not that Shima is very social but she could at least hold a conversation.

Sendai would be wanting to hurry up and leave so she could be alone with Miyagi. Shimamura would be wanting to hurry up and leave so she could go take a nap.

What's with all the cynics in this thread? I didn't think the drama was handled perfectly either but the resolution was nice and clearly the characters' relationship is in an even better place now
