I don’t really want to criticize this but I think the author should offer some thoughts about what is the deal with this ending.

I don't think it needs to. The "twist" at the end that the zombies were in their head makes it clear enough this was symbolic.

As for what it's symbolizing ? It doesn't have to be explicit. It's not going to be read by random people who don't even know of the issues. It's aimed at a public that can already guess. Now, for the details ? Whether the "zombies" were due to bullying by homophobic classmates, to feeling crushed by the expectations of a patriarchal society, or something adjacent, doesn't necessarily matter that much.

Oh I didn't realize this got uploaded here. I'm the translator, I wrote a short review on this manga in case anybody wants to read my interpretation of it, there's some things there that I didn't see mentioned in these comments

^The review seems to be gone, can you post it elsewhere?

Coming back to this again.

Still conflicted. I get the feeling of suicide as the only solution they can think of in this world overrun by "zombies", but it still feels morally wrong somehow, to see it spelled out so blatantly like that.

It's probably just me, honestly. I can't seem to leave those feelings that say that suicide is actually a good thing behind no matter what. The idea of suicide being this permanent solution to a temporary problem - but a solution regardless.

I hope the two girls have a better life, wherever they are going.
