I could really get a sense of Fate's feelings in that first part. I'm surprised there aren't more doujins that take into the fact that Fate never actually had a childhood up to that point, so she doesn't really understand a lot of what comes second nature to Nanoha's friends.

Second part, I really wasn't feeling it. As Nanoha's said, she was just an airhead there.

Also going off of what Nezchan said, Fate was abused by her mother and her mom never loved her. I never see doujins where they talk about the abuse she went through besides Al-hazard, and a few other ones except they would end up having sex after Fate had a flashback.. I don't know I normally wouldn't complain about lesbian sex but I don't think it's healthy to keep that pain and emotional trauma inside her all those years.

Also keep in mind that Fate's early childhood never existed, and she was created at roughly the same apparent age as Alicia was when she died. So when she met Nanoha, I'd be surprised if she'd even existed for more than a year or so.

Winds Comes May is one I like in that it deals with that lack of experience although it doesn't really touch on the abuse.

I know... she was also given all of Alicia's memories so she never had any good memories of her own.. she was just a "copy" But in a way Nanoha saved her and let her live a "normal" life, if you could call it that.

My personal stance (or headcanon, if you'd prefer) on this would be that Fate, from the point she was born to where her mother died, relied on others to tell her what she liked and didn't like. Her mother would point at something and say something along the lines of "Remember? You love this."

If Fate answered with an honest "no," she'd get beaten because she was "a bad daughter" for not being more like Alicia. She only had her sister's memories, not her mannerisms, and that greatly frustrated her mother. So Fate trained herself to always agree--until the day she finally disagreed and stood up for herself and her own rights as a human being.

But when Fate entered Nanoha's school, she was a still bit uncertain about her own opinions and latched onto Nanoha for her own viewpoint. Fate didn't want to disappoint anyone she actually cared about for being "the one with a different opinion," so she always innocently agreed with Nanoha...because that planet was, to her, "Nanoha's world," not "Earth."

I digress.

Perfectly spoken.

And maybe rejecting the idea of exchange diary with a bold "I don't like to share Nanoha with you guys" won't hurt much, I think?
