Strangely tho, when I was 11, I really loved Negima and most harems, I suppose it was the closest thing I could relate to as a gay teenage girl, dem dorky guys surrounded by all the cute girls. Relate... I guess, in a way envying the mcs?
I really liked Negima actually, I thought it was hilarious, all the predicaments he was getting in, and being only 10, he wasn't actually into the girls and was just trying his best to be a decent teacher.
I didn't actually think about it at the time, but I realise now that at some point I started heavily shipping Konoka and Setsuna and all of my motivation for reading was those occasional subtext moments, rather than the actual 'plot' haha
I don't read harem anymore, but I still have some kind of a fondness for ones I've read years back
