Also, the way Umiko praised Nenechi kinda makes me think they might hire her later in the manga as a permanent tester. Might be a good way to have her join the regular cast and get involved more in the story and with Umiko. ^^

I don't know if there's actually a law stating that hiring only one gender is illegal in japan, but frankly, "odd" setting that nobody comment on is quite common in manga/anime. Just think on how many underage protagonist we have living by themselves with no mention of their parents and nobody ever find it strange.

It's best to just roll with it.

Funny you bring out this, because in many series tagged with 'Missing Y Chromosome' there is some kind of explanation (even if it isn't a very rational one).
Very often, girl only school is the reason. Sometimes in fantasy/sci-fi manga they explain there was a disease that killed all males etc.
