Lovely piece. Moyu has been one of my favorite Arknights Yuri artists for awhile now, and they quickly became one of my favorite Recoil Yuri artists as well!

Yoorie19 Sep 27, 2022 12:27AM

I love the fact that ChisaTaki become the newest monument of modern yuri and enrich the yuri references among the yuri groups that usually stuck in YuzuMei or YuuTouko.

Missigno Sep 27, 2022 12:55AM

Well guys how are we all feeling after the final episode

CindertailtheKistune Sep 27, 2022 1:05AM

I'm sorry, but who's hair is in the top right corner???

FluffyCow Sep 27, 2022 1:23AM

@Missigno I'm feeling good myself. I've been enjoying seeing JP Twitter excited about the idea of gay marriage being legal in Hawaii.

@CindertailtheKistune I think it's the artist's OC. Since it looks different from the birds, has blonde hair, and the tail with blonde hair. It looks like their Arknights Doctor dragon-girl OC that appears in this here on this website. On the artist's Pixiv a full dragon version appears in a piece of Chisato/Takina ship art, here.

Edit: Fixed some formatting, it should be good to go now! (Hopefully the links don't break...I've noticed that happens sometimes on Dynasty after a bit. Apologies in advance if that happens.)

@Missigno I'm quite sadge that there was less conversations and closure than I expected. I'm happy that shes alive and all, but that second part where the patrons and lycoreco are missing her.. was more confusing than sad tbh, because they literally showed Mika getting the heart before that. True, this could mean that they were too late, but they didnt show any indication or tension that that was the case. Sure, her heart was seemingly reaching its limit during the fight, but they could have shown in again when shes talking to Takina. Also, the both of them didnt even talk during that whole sequence! Not even a hello! AND THEN IT TURNS OUT SHE ESCAPED FROM THE HOSPITAL? GIRL, WHY?! NOT EVEN TALKING TO THE PEOPLE WHO BROKE THEIR BACKS FOR YOU?! Seriously.. Imagine how takina mustve felt when she heard she was missing.. poor girl.. I really think they couldve used more of the last half for more conversations and closure on the girl's. Like Chisato's smarter than thinking 'oh im still dying' when she looks like she literally got a new transplant. They couldve made her be shocked in horror that the gang mightve killed Shinji for the heart, and they couldve made Takina just slap her selfless ass to reality because her selflessness is breaking their hearts! Anyways.. theres probably more I want to say but I'd rather make a proper long post than a comment, rant over. TLDR; Salty

@Rekan1 Well I guess you and me are in opposite boats, since I honestly loved the ending and the series overall haha

Rekan1 Sep 27, 2022 1:43AM

@FluffyCow I could probably accept the ending, its open ended after all and the hawaiian thing is pretty pog. But the logic and sequence just irks me so much lol. Luckily, fanfics exist for me to consume, and theres already one that details takina's perspective when chisato went missing. God bless ao3

FluffyCow Sep 27, 2022 1:48AM

@Rekan Yeah I just don't mind the logic and sequence myself. I found it rather cute and humorous, some various amounts of just going with the flow, characters not asking too many questions (at least on screen) since some of the answers could be inferred from context/implication, and just moving on to live in the present. Something you probably don't agree with and that's fine. Just unfortunate that it sounds like it was a very bad experience for you, I wish you could have also gotten as much enjoyment out of it as I did.

Edit: Striking the last line since it was a misunderstanding on my part.

@FluffyCow Oh i enjoyed it, specially the Mika part, just wished they explored a bit more

FluffyCow Sep 27, 2022 2:03AM

@Rekan1 Oh fair, apologies for getting the wrong read there. Yeah I'd take an OVA episode to explore some more and have some of those conversations that you're talking about, while I didn't mind how the ending was handled I'd definitely be happy to see more of the series and things expanded on as well.

EmergentLurker Sep 27, 2022 2:32AM

The first half of the last episode was really really good. But the timeskip left a lot of open holes and open endings that felt rushed and incomplete.

My hypothesis is that beause LecoReco has achieved such insane success (Hideo Kojima is definitely getting his Lycoris game) that the studio execs said to pull back on the ending.
What I think was supposed to happen was Majima was supposed to die from the fall, DA was supposed to recover all the guns instead of half and Takina and Chisato have their kiss on the beach before running off to Hawaii. However since the series is so successful they greenlit a sequel quickly and asked the crew to leave an open end for more material later.

Note: Getting the spoilers to work is confusing, apparently you have to make sure there are no spaces between the == and the actual text.

^I think I've mostly covered why I'm okay with the ending, something I can add though I hope if we get a season 2 that they have new villains and a different focus from the guns. Like the guns are no longer the problem of our café crew, and Majima or he's just a side character that pops up like Gojo Majima from Yakuza haha. I'd also be fine with the whole of season 2 taking place entirely in Hawaii and them helping people there. Also if season 2 adds some extra context to events from the ending of season 1 that'd be good, and that possibility it's probably part of why I'm not really worried about them wrapping up this season on a fun, light hearted, vacation note.

My favorite shows ever of all time were these obscure, campy action shows like Human Target, Person of Interest, and The Finder. I never got to grow up with The A-Team, but I'm assuming they were emulating the same type of feeling.

I'm excited that season 2, if there is one, may be going in that direction. Episodic adventures where they help out their clients who are in over their heads type of deal.

I think the only problem I had with the ending was the same thing that everyone else had, they tried the whole "talk about x character in vague terms to make the audience think they died but are really just hiding and/or talking about someone else" trope but half-assed it so much it had no impact.

I think the trope itself is perfectly fine but it's execution here is lacking. I also totally expected them to do that and them only half committing to the bit was supposed to be some sort of subversion but it ended up falling flat. It really is an all or nothing thing if you try to go that route.

Like, for example, they didn't leave us with any tension on whether Chisato would still fall after Takina caught her. If it cut away while Chisato was still falling, or had just a couple extra frames of Takina struggling or about to lose grip then maybe it would have sold that trick. As it stood the last scene we see is Chisato caught and the music is even triumphant so the audience is still being told this is a safe moment.

Then, in the scenes at the cafe, everyone seems too happy, too vague, and the scene itself is too short to really understand what we are supposed to worrying about. If it had even a more slightly somber tone then maybe they could have kept the illusion here too.

And lastly there was the suspense over who Takina's target is. I would have absolutely loved if they pulled a double subversion at this point and it turned out Takina's target really was just a random ass goon, then afterwards she just happens to run into Chisato by some other strange "coincidence." Again, in the moment we had no reason to believe it was anyone other than Chisato.

This isn't me saying the ending was bad, however, I just think there were a couple missed opportunities. I got a sense that they did do exactly what they wanted to do, they just didn't have enough time to do all of it sufficiently.

God I love this show, even if it did make me stress for like 3 weeks.

^Stress for 3 weeks? I think that's at least somewhat lucky haha, I was honestly stressing since day 1 with the first episode, so all 3 months. I had a feeling of ominous tension since the start, and anime has a habit of breaking my heart.

Swag Wagon Sep 27, 2022 4:27AM

^ Honestly, same. But then I realized it was bad for my health, decided to wait for all the episodes to come out so I could binge it, failed that and broke almost immediately, and caught up to wait for 3 most stressful episodes. The last ones.

Had like 2 weeks were I successfully fooled myself into thinking I didn't care. I think that counts.

It helped I had Payday 2 to help me cope with my Chisato cosplay loadout.

FluffyCow Sep 27, 2022 4:31AM

^That's probably smart honestly, giving your sanity and heart a break for a bit.

Takasaki Reika Sep 27, 2022 9:38AM

there's still a lot of things we don't know about, for example the Lilybell captain, idk why he's glaring at Chisato. How Majima survived and what he's going to do next.
so there's a chance there will be season 2

the Hawaii thing+ Chisataki's matching bracelet,i love it

Seems like a parody of "From Here to Eternity."

Vincent Kellen Sep 27, 2022 1:31PM

seeing the comment
Me: what the hell happened here?

FluffyCow Sep 27, 2022 4:14PM

^At least as far as I know it was just a discussion about the show haha

I don't think any of us were arguing or anything, at least I hope not. It was just an interesting conversation and sharing of views from my understanding.

Blanquita93 Sep 27, 2022 7:59PM

Read through all the comments. Very civil and interesting discussion. :) Let’s go Yuri squad!

Megumiaki Sep 28, 2022 2:49AM

I just binged the second half of the show a few hours ago. Probably one of the best anime I've ever watched, a true masterpiece.

georgeoswalddannyson Sep 28, 2022 11:28AM

Sad that we didn't get a kiss but it was a pretty good series overall
Hopefully we'll get a sequel

PineconeJuice Sep 30, 2022 8:10AM

Pretty neat series. Yuri aside, it was just a banger, decently made action anime that kept paying attention to details and which plot was really just played "by the book". Which isn't a bad thing. It's refreshing in this day and age. Like it tries to intertwine many "tropes" to make it look like it's more than it really is, but all those tropes are really basic.

Binged it last night and it was some time since I got so invested in a series. Which does fill you with anxiety, especially in the few last episodes. The ending was okay, I think I gave it a passing grade mostly because, as many believe, I think it might have been adjusted so that we can have a second season or an OVA or something. I also can't wait to devour any spin-off content. Especially if it's as gay as some people make me believe it is.
