It makes sense. This society is a post-modern science-based society. While there are still trappings of the old social mores and norms, they are increasingly pushed under the apparently highly-accurate, science-based coupling.

So is anyone allowed to be gay in this world? From the description, it seems like everyone's paired up with an eye to procreation.

I was wondering about that too. Maybe if the technology is that advanced, same sex babies wouldn't be impossible and there'd be some sort of separate system for if you're gay or not, but most likely it's just illegal...

I'm a year late ;-; but: I think people are ALLOWED to be gay, but they don't get paired up in the matching system since those who get paired up, are paired up to combine genes to MAKE the perfect baby. However, since it even matched siblings, I doubt they were against homosexuality.
