I seem to recall a couple of doujins by other authors that seem to reference the events in this story, although I honestly can't recall which ones right off. I wonder how popular this story was in the Japanese doujin scene?

then
http://dynasty-scans.com/chapters/sekai_wa_kagayaku <- this one is referenced, the one above is a prequel to it.
Then this

Awesome read.

Well, those are all by the same author so it makes sense. I was thinking more stuff like this:

And there's at least one other that I can't seem to find at the moment that has a similar reference.

Edit: This one's a more light hearted follow-up by Sagamani:

Nanoha's accident is canon, mentioned in the StrikerS series and comics. It's given in canon that this is because she was exceeding her limits, that she was with Vita at the time who blames herself for what happened, that she was struck down by one of those at the time unidentified gadgets, that she couldn't walk or fly for a while afterwards (and they didn't know if she'd ever be able to again), and that she was pretending to stay strong for those around her. This doujin is only filling in blanks while sticking to everything we know from the canon.

I don't think Fate exceeding her limits is ever mentioned, but considering how she and Nanoha are connected I don't think it's a stretch to say they both just had the same idea of extending the overworking part to Fate instead of just Nanoha. So it's very likely they're only referencing the same thing from the series, unless there's something very specifically pointing to something that was added in this doujin.

I realize this reply is five years late, but since it hadn't been pointed out here yet, I figured I should do that anyway.
