I know this may be quite a few chapters late, but I really love how birds like the Sunset Hawk and Oroshi are treated like the dragons of this world. The few birds we've met so far are treated as the awe/fear-inspiring, aloof beasts that dragons often represent, but, if Oroshi's gratitude is anything to go by, still capable of intelligent thought and emotional interaction with other species. I feel it adds to the Light fantasy feeling of the story all the more.

I mean, we've had more than a few birds as shopkeeps and so on. Warblers and finches and so on regularly trade recipes with Mikochi. It's just that the really big predatorial birds seem more animal-like, which is odd since we know Emerald Tail is a big wolf and Hakumei's talked with a herd of cows on her travels.

Why Mikochi filed harassment charges against the universe; the chapter.

Looks like friendship chocolate vs love chocolate. Which is why Sonya's so shy about handing hers over.

I didn't like how they re-arranged the chapters in the anime either.

I'm probably being too picky, but the fact that Hakumei meeting Iwashi and Hakumei getting accepted by the chairman was separated by only one episode made me feel that it was a bit too compacted. Which might've been a necessity, given the number of episodes they had to work with, but still. I had an impression that Hakumei and Iwashi were working together for awhile before Iwashi formally recommended her to the chairman, which is how Hakumei's name in the carpenter's union got spread. Before that Hakumei was the new guy in town, and Michiko was introducing her to everything.

Also since when Michiko have a thing against bugs? She spends more than a few chapters riding on beetles that delivers her stuff and transports her to places.

Also, I'm wondering what she'll do after this. It seems obvious she hasn't resigned herself to always using ice magic, but there's no reason to believe that she'll be any more capable of using fire magic than before.

Goes back to being bad at fire magic on principle, I'd imagine. Not like her preferences seem to have changed any. Only now the others know she has this up her (HUEG) sleeve in a tight spot. In case of emergency GET NAKED

The thing is, it's been established that her problem now goes beyond simply being bad at fire magic, to being physically incapable of using fire magic stably. And as it's been described, it doesn't seem like this is something she can overcome just through training and guts.

Also the whole thing about Granite Frost watching her dream, of becoming a fire mage, metaphorically go up in smoke in the previous chapter as she resolves herself to going back to using the ice magic she hates so much.

*Fire sputtering and weakening
"My dream is to become a top fire mage!"
*Fire dies
*Strip time

Edit; Also the matchstick staff looks like a gigantic matchstick.

Self-sacrifice destruction magic flags are up.

You get it around level fifteen with death magic. She's level twenty one. It ignores enemy's strength, requires a buttload of mana to cast, and is ridiculously powerful. She's also pulling off the "stoicity in the face of certain death" thing that martyrs always do in scenes like this. And the dude was commenting on how death magic wouldn't work on him, which would only leave the alternative magic that would at her level that was mentioned by Wasabi.

Calling it now; RIP forehead.

That's mostly Zounose's take on it. Though there are elements of that sort of odd morality here and there in canon, particularly in Wild and Horned Hermit. Humans and Youkai are shown to be pretty anti-thetical to one another in canon, and Gensokyo's existence is predicated on their mutual antagonism. Zounose, however, showcases the more traditional youkai-ish traits pretty blithely. In canon Yukari abducts people from the Outside, who are "free game" for the human-eating Youkai, and the humans pretty much don't give a shit. This is one of those things that Zounose has latched onto and basically never let go. Probably as a sort of authorial protest to "super happy-times Gensokyo, even though they're populated by unrepentant cannibals and an equally apathetic human population".

Beggar's chicken wrapped up in mud? That's super old school.

One thing I wasn't sure about was whether Orin should have gotten to the soul first, because unless the exterminator had already been judged for hell in such a short time, he shouldn't have been her domain.

She might've stolen the soul. She does that with bodies as well, though in this case it seems everyone else voluntarily left the bones for her.

The youkai all using modern techniques to cook human meat and ignoring him unless attacked first is a nice contrast from the hyper-traditionalist "kill-em-all" mindset of the exterminator. The only youkai that seems to even match up to what he expected of them is Rumia, who just straight up attacked him. Every other youkai seemed to have just been standing around minding their own business when he jumped them. From his point of view, he might've felt he got pitied by Yukari. I feel he might've gone on his little suicidal crusade to try to find evidence to validate his mindset. It's a little sad for the times, even the youkai, to pass by you and make you feel irrelevant.

These two authors are two that I'd never thought would ever make a collab.

Should've just made the story about the yaoi, with the sister and her friends as a side story. Easier on the writer.

Everyone's so earnest that it's adorable. I'd happily read four or five chapters about them just corralling ideas to help them make up with each other. Or four, five, chapters of guinea pig illustrations, that'd work too.

Openly malicious characters in Touhou are actually kind of rare, which is why Junko is very interesting when contrasted with the other more relatively subdued characters. The truth is most of Gensokyo is actually super duper easy going, even when given the nebulously dubious ethics that they work with.

Reisen's face tho.

Yup, mostly vanilla oneshots. Lots and lots of them.

I wonder if Aki's going to kill a monster that Wasabi cares about someday. Will it just be brushed off as casually as everything else?

Finally a yuri monster girl manga! We got a female darling here :) the only thing is... why all monster girl content ecchi?

Because the original monstergirl encyclopedia (and arguably the most famous doujin offshoot game monmosu girl quest) were both completely and unwholesomely pornographic. Featuring monster girls that fed exclusively off of semen. Daily life of monster girl and this is actually kind of tame compared to the standard bearer.

Yeah, there's some really odd foreshadowing (the excessive focus on her -- and specifically her -- breasts which are weirdly more perky and jiggly than any other character's, her massive tendency to get into lewd accidents that's over-the-top even for this sort of ecchi comedy, her mysterious tendency toward illness and waking up feverish) and her turning out to actually be a succubus is the kind of twist this sort of story would pull. I'm banking she really is.

EDIT: Oh, and there's also her "Beyond Turned On" response to Niina's molestations.

Those boobs are basically how Horitomo draws boobs in general in everything I've ever seen him draw.
