Momo totally had Charlotte wrapped around her little finger in the anime, too.

Not real sure how this turned out to be a futanari discussion, given the author didn't do futa until well after this piece.

Also, on the futa thing: I honestly dislike it because I see it as a fetish and not as a representation of trans people.

I've heard a similar argument about yuri as a whole, that "real lesbians" always present themselves as butch and femme, and that yuri manga featuring two especially girly women in a relationship are playing exclusively to straight male fetishes

srs

I've been told the same thing by some of my lesbian friends, that it's icky and gross that I get turned on by watching girls make out and have sex with each other, and that it makes them feel faintly violated.

I actually feel less conflicted about my enjoyment of futanari, because at least in theory I could (and would, if the opportunity presented itself and we liked each other and the chemistry was there) have a romantic relationship (including sex) with a transsexual. I don't fetishize transsexuals like some guys. I just realized several years ago that the things I look at which make a woman attractive to me don't actually include the genitals. Because 99.9% of the time I can't see the genitals at the moment I decide whether or not I find a woman attractive.

Whereas by definition I can't have lesbian sex with a lesbian, so all this yuri stuff I'm reading is just pure voyuerism. (Mind you, the futanari I prefer is futa-on-futa or futa-on-female, so I'm something of a hypocrite here. I am large. I contain multitudes.)

In this case, "cum" is being used in the original Latin sense. From Wiktionary:

"Used in indicating a thing with two roles, functions, or natures, or a thing that has changed from one to another.

He built a bus-cum-greenhouse that made a bold statement, but the plants in it didn't live very long."‎

I could possibly dig this if it were explictly BDSM play. The fact that it's not framed as explicitly BDSM, and is instead framed as though Manami-san really is looking for a bestiality substitute just leaves me with the feeling that Manami-san has more issues than the National Geographic back catalog.

I suspect it has more to do with familiarity due to cultural exports than anything else. I don't know much about Japanese culture, but I know a lot more about Japanese culture than I do about Vietnamese or Thai culture, because I consume a lot of media which originates in Japan. So if I'm writing a thing set in east Asia, I am much more likely to set it in Japan than I am to set it in Vietnam or Thailand, because I know Japan better. (For some value of "better".) This would be true even if Vietnam or Thailand would be an equally appropriate or even a more appropriate setting for whatever story I have in mind.

So in the same vein, I would imagine that the average Japanese mangaka is more familiar with the US than with Canada or the Netherlands, because the average Japanese is much more likely to have consumed US-produced media than Canadian- or Dutch-produced media.

Someone is mixing up Disney's "Sleeping Beauty" with Anne Rice's "Sleeping Beauty" I think.

This is a very sweet and enjoyable comic.

But I confess that, as a purely practical matter, I do find myself wondering about feminine gynecological hygiene in the Meiji period...

Dunno enough about FLCL to say.

It may be worth pointing out that the girl in the last panel of the strip is God.

I would bet dollars to donuts that the asteroid is named "Minus" because of this particular webcomic right here.

"Minus" was the name of the webcomic, and also the name of the main character (the girl with the baseball bat in the last panel of the comic linked above).

I'd think a BDSM tag would be appropriate.

Who's doing the upkeep on all the plants in the secret garden if nobody knows about it and nobody ever goes there aside from these two girls?

I approve of Nico's committment to the oral arts here. Felt bad that she never got to be on the receiving end, but it looks like Maki had a gay ol' time.

To hell with the abs, there's a CARPET SHARK in this manga! Kawaii!

I demand the addition of a Ferret tag!

I think it's a little overwrought to call it "rape". Says in the title right there "I'm not saying I'm not into it..."

Maki isn't afraid of Rin in this comic. She's just annoyed.

But then . . . how does she do that? I'm reading this absolutely typical "first date at the fireworks festival in yukata" scene, OK better because it's yuri girls both in a yukata, but I've read these a thousand times before--and then suddenly I realize my body is actually reacting to the romantic tension between them. I got a bit of heartbeat, that tingly feeling in the pit of my stomach, like that. She can do this apparently bog-standard stuff and she just brings the feelings, it's like magic.

Yes! Seriously, I can read Chapters 10 and 12 over and over. Just watching Hina admit her love for Hana to herself is breathtaking. And likewise with Hana realizing she loves Hina. I want to read about characters in love, and I want to believe it. There's a lot of yuri manga out there that doesn't make me believe it, but this one does. So many little details that absolutely sell it.

EDIT: One of my favorite bits, right here. Just so caught up in the moment, time freezes for both of them. Then reality sets in and they get all flustered, and it's totally believable.
