Of course I don't think in Japan you can be out at a company like that lol so it's a bit self explanatory that they wouldn't be out if they dated so idk it felt a bit like a dumb excuse. The age gap thing with her being her superior on top seems way more of an issue and I'm a bit disappointed she didn't mention it to Ayaka but maybe that would've been a bit too devastating. The rejection was very sound though and realistic. I think that's one of the most realistic stories I've read in this regard, except probably Octave and some other I'm forgetting.
I don't know how Hiroko can plausibly change her mind now though. I mean Hiroko doesn't really like Ayaka, does she? She only finds her hot or cute? At least it seems like it. Maybe she'll magically realize she likes her lol... idk
About Risa, it'd be fine to have her and Ayaka end up together as a twist if she had more "screen time" but as it stands she doesn't have a lot of depth to her imho. Sure, she's great but it's like she barely has any flaws and the only thing we know about her is that she's nice and likes Ayaka. I don't think from a storytelling point of view it would make sense because of the character arcs... unlesssss somehow Hiroko and Ayaka dated and broke up, Ayaka realizing Hiroko isn't the one for her and Hiroko realizing she can be proud of who she loves despite the break up? Is that what you all want? Gosh XD idk, I like Hiroko. She's terrible but I can see the appeal lol. She's emotionally repressed and needs to be taken care of lol. Toxic attraction pattern? Yes. That's the best story lol.

HEY, I'd love that, they dating, then breaking up, then Hiroko being proud of herself and then Ayaka finding love with a college lady or something, yesssss!! But I doubt it'll happen. I also don't dislike Hiroko, plenty of people can be that way.

She's made comments about it and characters have hinted at it a lot but now she's said it clearly for Ayaka. She really has just decided to remain closeted at work, for obvious reasons and believes (wrongly, I think) that she can't make Ayaka truly happy as a result. She rejected Ayaka nicely, but not fully, since she actually does like her. Plenty of people unfortunately have to navigate decisions like that when in historically hostile or precarious environments. It's perfectly understandable that she wouldn't trust Ayaka's ability to keep her secret (gay or not) and honestly it's not out of the realm of possibility that Ayaka will still "out her" accidently, even now. She's taking a personal and potentially professional risk, as Ayaka's pretty loud and obvious. It's unfortunate that Ayaka met Hiroko at work because it's clear they would be fine if Ayaka weren't a coworker (or if Japanese, or any, corporate environments didn't breed distrust).

It was a circumstantial rejection, which Ayaka can come back from. Now if she decides to, Ayaka can better strategize about how to work with or around Hiroko's cautious office demeanor or how to maybe persuade Hiroko to loosen those cautious rules a bit. Hiroko clearly likes her a lot so it might not be as difficult as it seems right now. Ayaka will have a lot to think about.

I did like Risa's force here though. She's putting in the work but she's honestly in the same (but worse) position as Ayaka. At least for Ayaka, Hiroko's issues are only work related. For Risa, Ayaka just isn't romantically interested at all and there's not much coming back from that.

This was well written in my opinion, but I don't think Ayaka would have to wait around for Hiroko, nor did she ask her that, I know, but me personally wouldn't be happy dating someone in the closet, I know there are different circumstances in life, but being out since I was 14, I just can't. I'd like a third person to appear, I would say Risa but Ayaka doesn't seem to like her, I just don't feel Hiroko and Ayaka are a good pair now and I hope Ayaka won't insist on it, chasing someone can get really tiresome.

You're talking about page 20, right? when Fuuko asks Yuni about sex with Nanase, and Yuni pictures herself and Nanase having sex during 3 panels.
I always thought it was a fantasy. Like Yuni went "Eh? Me and Nanase, have sex?" and then imagined for a few seconds what it would be like. But let's assume I'm wrong and it was a memory.
It doesn't look at all like she's thinking about three distinct times; more like it's a sequence of 3 scenes of the same roll in the hay. And it's certainly a memory from a while ago (since Yuni has been frustrated for some time when the manga starts) and we know for a fact that in the following 4 or 5 months nothing at all happens between Yuni and Nanase. So even if that part in page 20 was a memory and not a fantasy, it means they've had sex once (prolly when they became a couple) and then zilch for half a year. The case about Nanase having no real interest in Yuni's body still stands strong.

You guys should probably catch up with the missing chapters 10 to 15 on mangadex, because i really feel like most people here are talking without having read the entire manga lmao

Chapters 10 to 15 are clearly a big development arc in the manga. It starts with Yuni and Fuuko bonking at the Osaka hotel (btw a sex encounter totally initiated by Yuni). Then the story goes through many important moments between different characters (my favorite is when Yuni starts crying in Fuuko's arms, complaining about Nanase, and finishes with the words "I hate that bitch...") and it all leads to the final scene in chapter 15, the climactic stairs scene. In this scene Fuuko for the first time plays hardball with Yuni and talks about stopping their affair; Yuni panics and realizes she has come to need Fuuko so much she can't stand the idea of not having her; and then, as Yuni kisses Fuuko, Nanase discovers them.

I agree these are very important chapters both for the plot and the characters' development. But I'm not sure if any of this adds any data to the matter of Nanase's interest in sex with Yuni?

Yeah they've had sex, the thing is, if Nanase can't make time to go on a regular date, make a phone call or reply on text, how could she make time to do the doobla dooba doo?? Even if she wanted to, maybe when they did have sex she was picturing Yuni as a volleyball ball.

Also, what I noticed is that the main gripe people have about Yuni is that she never tried to communicate her "loneliness" to Nanase. And so, it's also her fault if she's been neglected. Commnunication, blah, blah blah...

But people are judging this from a western point of view, where people are used to be told to lay things on the table and discuss the issues.

The way Japanese people interact is different and one of the things I noticed is that they dislike direct confrontation, or criticizing others directly. There's this whole cultural thing about "reading the room" or "disturbing the harmony" that prevents direct communication and expects people to take hints on what others are thinking and avoid making a fuss or putting others in a difficult position. Not to say that some Japanese people don't do it, but it's considered rude.

The whole situation stems from the fact Nanase's unable to read and respond to Yuni's emotions and needs, and for that reason, their relationship's falling apart. And the fact Yuni doesn't confront her is because IT'S NOT SOMETHING YOU DO EASILY IN THEIR CULTURE. There needs to be a real crisis for them to speak their mind, like in the latest chapter. Yuni's at the end of her rope. She loves Nanase, but she finds in Fuuko everything she lacking in her own relationship and she's at an impasse.

On the other hand, Fuuko's really good at it. She can read Yuni and Nanase easily. She can navigate the whole thing without a hitch, so she's able to poke holes in the relationship easily.

Anyway, my point is, trying to judge these characters' behavior from a western point of view is completely different than how Japanese readers perceive it. Even they think "cheating is bad" of course, but to them, the whole situation doesn't seem as implausible or as "easily solved" as some readers here seem to think.
