Y'know, as much as I dislike Kaoru for her messing with many girls (especially Shizuka), there are some chapters that almost makes me like her and think she wouldn't be such a bad person if she could stop acting like everything around the world is ultimately about her.

I loved that, when Kaoru the lesbian huntress spots a prey, she stalks her on all fours, like a panther, and the ground she treads on starts spontaneously blooming with lilies.

Also, last one about Yuu and the twins kinda made me feel like Yuu wouldn't mind adding them to her pets. ^^; Could be fun seeing her trying to get all dom on them and the twins messing her up just by being themselves.

I kinda get this feeling that Yuu is secretly scared of the twins, haha. Mari is one thing: she knows Mari would never try to steal the initiative from her, so she can control their relationship, no sweat. But the MahiMahi are constantly bubbling with new ideas and acting on them as soon as they think of them... and that our poor Yuu can't handle at all.

You see girls, if you begin your big heartfelt tête-à-tête the moment the Ferris wheel starts moving, you will reach the climactic moment -- the kiss! ♡ -- right when you are at the top of the wheel.

OTOH, if you begin when you are at the top of the wheel, you will reach kissy time right when you are at the bottom again... and a nebby employee will come poke her nose into your cabin, thus clam-jamming your yuri.

IIRC in the first Discworld novel (or one of the first), the explorers would point at places and ask the natives for the names, and then put those names in their maps, and that's how they got Valley "That's your Finger Stupid", Mount "It's a Hill, are you Daft?", and so on.

Truth in fiction, then, because this is something that happens in real life, a lot. That's how in Europe they ended up with placenames like:

You know, I often wondered about Souseki Natsume and his famous answer to the question of how to say "I love you" in Japanese.

There are many versions of how the episode played out, but in all of them there's a foreign student (who's learning Japanese from Souseki) who eventually faces Souseki and asks him to say "I love you" in Japanese.

Souseki then looks at the student and says: "Tsuki ga kirei desu ne" ("The moon is beautiful, right?")

I often wondered why Souseki didn't say "Aishiteru" or "Suki da yo" or any other of the many correct answers, instead of giving an obviously wrong translation. Most scholars try to explain this claiming that Souseki wanted the student to realize that the Japanese people prefer to express their romantic feelings indirectly, because doing otherwise is too embarrassing. But... I never found these explanations convincing...

But now, I think I have finally found the real reason.

Souseki was way too cool to fall for such a transparent prank. Unlike sensei here. Yup.

I was just reading the Spanish scanlation of this manga. It's really good, in some aspects even better that this one. I found it quite funny that, at the end of the first chapter, there was a note from the translator where, after talking about this and that, she ended with the words: "Nos vemos en el infierno, y ahora con pasaje completo." Which more or less means: "See you all in hell, peeps, we all have a fully booked trip now."

This was, of course, a clear allusion to the mother/daughter incest theme of the series. The doctrine of the Catholic Church traditionally makes little difference between sinning by deed and sinning by thought... which is bad news for us fans, because it pretty much entails that all of us who read this manga and enjoy it are tragically darned to forever burn in hellfire -- a totally sucky fate, hehe.

No, but, seriously now, you shouldn't take her words literally. (You prolly had guessed it already, right? Right?) The translator wasn't seriously implying that we're all damned for liking this manga. Her message was a different one. You know the old saying about pleasure? It goes more or less like this: "A pleasure, if it's a guilty pleasure, is twice the pleasure!" Well, that's precisely what she was aiming at, lol. There's something very sexy and exciting in breaking taboos! "In this story, Ayako and Asuka are doing things that (according to traditional religious belief) are woefully ungodly and sinful and wrong, and that makes our vicarious gratification even more delicious!" This is the point that, in a tongue-in-cheek manner, she wanted to convey. And looking at the comments from the readers, I found that, not only these fellows had an extremely positive and supportive attitude towards the main characters, but also that a very large part of them appreciated the "we're all damned" joke -- and played along:

"This manga will damn us all! More, please, more!"
"I'm so going to hell, and I'm loving every step of it."
"I don't care if I'm damned! The heat never bothered me anyway!"
"I feel corrupt. I feel unclean. It feels so good!"
"Open the Gates of Hell! I'm coming in, and with head held high!"
"Hey, Satan? Here, take my soul, I don't need it anymore."
"Burn! Let's all burn! It's worth it!"
"Excuse me, is this the handbasket going all the way down? Here's my ticket, let me in."
"I just discovered this manga. I now need to go to the nearest church and buy a blessed holy rosary to cleanse the impious taint from my soul... but first I'M BINGE READING THE WHOLE THING AGAIN! TWICE!! SQUEE!!!"

I wish everyone in the English-speaking fandom had the same sense of humor as these people. I've lost count of how many hate messages have been posted so far by angry commenters who seemingly thought there was a need to expound, with grim-faced gravity, about moral wrongs and social evils and all sorts of preachy stuff. Why, oh why waste valuable time and forum space in such pointless gabble? This is a place to enjoy manga! Why, I ask, why???

This is the most relatable thing I've ever seen on a yuri manga.

Hehehe, I know. Recently, I see this a lot.

There was a time, yuri authors didn't care about such details. The stories were about the romantic feelings a girl could have for another girl. And if the feelings were returned, then we would see a kiss scene -- or maybe even a sharing-a-bed scene that hinted at sex without showing too much. That was about it.

In recent years, things have changed. Both the authors and the readers have a much deeper understanding of the real life issues a lesbian relationship entails. Also a much better notion of how lesbian sex works. That's why practical details like the problem of having long nails tend to appear way more often in yuri manga now.

(I think the first time I saw this issue tackled was in Sweet Guilty Love Bites... the MC, who was a hostess at Club Lilac, took a homeless girl to her apartment, they started chatting, and then this girl suddenly said "Oh my, Miss Hostess, look at those nails, you can't even masturbate like that! Since you've been so nice to me, let me repay you with my fingers and give you a few orgasms!" Lol.)
