It’s like the mildest form of enemies to lovers and Reimu and Aya just have so much interaction that it’s inevitable

I find it funny that people are delving into to the “is this yuri?” debate when the author actually muses on that in the afterword.

For me, this is unquestionably yuri in the classic sense and as well as in the more modern sense. They are two women who are special to each other and who plan to stay together. I think it’s important to have stories that explicitly aim for showing an ace relationship instead of leaving things subtextual.

Also, I know a few adults who don’t live with their long term partners who prefer it that way. Some people do better having their own space. One of the main themes of this story is that you can’t assume that relationships need to look a certain way to be valid.

I do wish we could’ve gotten a follow up with Rio. I hate seeing the stalking horse discarded so flippantly, but oh well

I’d be interested to hear from ace/aroace readers if they resonated with this story or were pleased with the ending. I can’t help but feel a little unsatisfied, but I’m pretty distinctly neither aro nor ace, so it might just be a disconnect along those lines

It feels weird that Succubi have something akin to biological marriage after all of the talk about how the natural succubus lifestyle is supposed to involve so much sleeping around. I know the tattoo has been trope forever, but it feels more like an omegaverse mating bite in this context

I'm sure it's just there to be a) sexy and b) a source of Drama, but it kinda makes sense if you think of it as varying survival strategies. Succubi, at least this version of them, are basically parasites that feed off humans. And you can either go for a wide strategy of feeding from as many people as possible, which reduces your reliance on any single source at the cost of taking more work and time; or you can "settle down" with a single human and feed just from them, which is theoretically more stable and provides better results over the long term. And the tattoo thing is a way of both increasing the efficiency and warding off competitors.

Obviously, the bottom line is just "ecchi comic about Teens having Feelings," so I dunno if it was written that way, but it's interesting to think about! (...at least, to me it is...)

She got over that already in her little heart-to-heart with Zima, which happened soon after the whole bunch was brought to Rhodes in the first place. If anything her text implies these days she'd willingly sacrifice her relationship with the rest of the group if it would help them get over their damage (she definitely has the best grasp of her own issues and unlike the others actually recognizes you can't just bottle that shit in).

Hmmm, there’s definitely slow, incremental progress in this relationship, but would y’all consider this a slow burn?

I feel like there’s not enough tension to qualify for the “burn” part of that term, although I do think (hope) that it is progressing to a romantic place

Ms. Zhang always searches for Dai Yi no matter the time or place. She even changed her schedule just to spend time with her and have her help with the veil. It’s clear she has a thing for her but at this point I think she’s not even consciously aware of it.

Also, it’s interesting that this marriage is a betrothal (if the title is true) but her parents have nothing to do with her or her life. Most of the time betrothals are set up by the parent’s. Perhaps this marriage benefits the mysterious fiancé more? Maybe Ms. Zhang is doing it for him?
