Maki's getting more and more pitiable as every chapter goes by.

You think so? I mean, sure, Liz exploits Maki, but that seems to be just a part of their slave play. BDSM undertones are all over this story. And it's consensual as far as we can tell.

Putting that aside, Liz often behaves like a spoiled child, but Maki is basically the supportive girlfriend all along. And relationships are about trust, after all. In my personal opinion, Maki isn't pitiable for trusting Liz, it's Liz who fucked up.

Pitiable just means it elicits feelings of compassion and sadness for the suffering of someone else, in this case Maki being a lovely partner and her partner turning around and cheating on her while she's none the wiser. Liz's treatment of her makes me feel bad for her that doesn't require Maki to be in any way responsible for her mistreatment.

Guys, Guys.
Nothing she said actually implies that the blowjob(s?) she gave her ex were forced, stop making a mole out of an anthill.
Just because she's reluctant to get sexual doesn't mean whatever she has done in the past was against her will, asking your significant other for oral sex is not even remotely dubious. Nothing we've heard of the ex-boyfriend so far implies he's the kind of douchebag who forces people to do things if they clearly refuse.

Asking your significant other for a "favor" is not forcing anyone to do anything, just because she decided to relent and do it doesn't mean it was inherently non-consensual.

The sister isn't entirely wrong in chapter 2, some people really are just holding back out of fear and just need a push to get going. The difference between a healthy partner and an unhealthy one is being able to recognize what is and isn't crossing a line. (That is not to say that the BJ that the ex got was non-consensual just because oral sex was crossing the line in this chapter with the sister.)

Dude if you "relent" to doing something it is by definition not something you want to do in the first place. She's a lesbian for christ's sake I somehow doubt she wanted to suck a dude's dick anymore than a straight dude would. And anything your partner isn't comfortable with you doing to their body is crossing the line.

Every time I hear people discuss FF plots I become more grateful that my brain refuses to retain the details of any of the FF games I've played.

I know all these lectures about how the author means for us to take the events of the story are kindly meant, but they're totally irrelevant to how readers respond to the story.

The irony of this coming from someone who routinely argues that authorial intent trumps audience interpretation pretty much every time anyone else isn't jiving with the author's intent is pretty ridiculous. I guess authorial intent only takes priority over interpretations that aren't yours.

I'll be honest if Izumi made a full commitment on trying to make Nanaki fall in love with her, I would be behind her all the way at this point.

God, I would love a story that just pivoted the assumed end pairing around a love triangle midway through that could be really interesting to see.

The author really pulled off that love triangle pretty damn well. It wasn't just an obstacle to romantic development to be danced around for chapter after chapter it was actually an important source of development for characters and their relationships outside of the main romance.

Now I'm just hyper aware of every fucked up thing Iori does and can't find comedy in any of it.

Just believe it's one of a kind and that kind of chapter will probably never pop up again.

Oh I don't expect Iori's abuse of Minami to ever be treated seriously again it's just going to go back to being a punchline which is actually the least appealing outcome here for me.

Oof, 32 really isn't working for me. Like, there are three main ways I can see this is going:
1. it's the start of an actual serious exploration of Iori's physical abuse of Minami which is unfortunate because the dramatic writing in this series is lacklustre at best and it would probably be better if she just stopped doing it and the author played to their strengths
2. the author's comedic sense is even more off-kilter regarding domestic violence than I previously thought and this was supposed to actually be funny
3. it's a weird tone shift that the author has no actual plans for and didn't think through that's never going to be brought up in any real capacity and Iori's going to keep beating a domestic abuse survivor and that's going to keep being portrayed as funny
Maybe there's another option where this doesn't suck but I'm not getting my hopes up.

^This story doesn't deserve to have suicidal ideation as a plot point it's far too shallow.

Domestic violence as a joke still isn't working for me when the character being subjected to it has this whole angsty backstory revolving around being abused.

Poly is always the cheapest answer to a love triangle.

It's the only answer to a love triangle that doesn't bore the crap out of me these days.

As for earlier discussion, why is "pay rent money, or I evict you" a legitimate business transaction, but "have sex or pay money, or I evict you" extortion?

The former is in fact also evil capitalism has just normalized it. However, it's not compounding the inherent exploitation that is the existence of landlords by adding rape on top of it.
