Yes. Yukiko originally drew them as random yuri OCs, and then made a 4-koma series out of them.

edit: I'll note that they aren't exactly the same as back then (Sakurako is a huge perv in those older pictures...) but they certainly have their roots from those yuri collections of Yukiko's.

Interestingly I'd actually kind of disagree with both of you!

探訪 to me feels more like the sort of visit a journalist pays to a place for a story or inquiries they would make (cf: kotobank, weblio thesaurus, and the fact that the two kanji are 'search' and 'visit'). It's a 'search', but not in the 'looking for a location' kind of way, but more in the 'going to a place to look for information' sense. You can particularly see this on weblio where all the synonyms to me seem more appropriate to be used in the context of a journalist or detective.

A quick Google search can also show you the way it's being used... seems to be to often be used in sites/blogs and such that are about people travelling around finding out awesome restaurants, sacred/historical sites, landmarks... I even saw one about a trip to go find some komodo dragons...

Not too easy to translate, really... Investigation? Feels a bit weird.

...Polite translation discussion is always better than being rude though~

Part of it is that 'niku' (meat) and 'Nico' are so similar.

I'd throw away all the "-chan"'s. And replace Lin's "Nya" w/ "Meow".

My personal preference is to keep in the name honorifics if it makes sense in context. Japanese schoolgirls? Yes, they get them. Some kind of non-Japanese setting like Ghost in the Shell, for example? It doesn't make much sense here, so I'd probably leave them out. In general, my experience is that people seem to like seeing the honorifics, but I guess this is more of what you personally enjoy.

Also my ideal state would be to go full on cat puns a la Monster Hunter 4U's Felynes, but it is actually rather hard to swing this. Requires a good editor to help me out a lot. And in any case, MH4U's cats say nya, so I think Rin-chan can say nya too. :P

We say tenth grade in Australia too. And to be honest, I've seen this swapping over of 1年生, 2年生 etc. to 10th, 11th, etc. grade in other works, too. I'm somewhat surprised to see people having trouble understanding it.
