I'm not saying people can't be interested in stuff, and I'm certainly not saying they aren't allowed to make stuff, just wondering what happened that put it back into the public eye. Usually when a series gets a lot of attention it's because of a recent development, not many shows just suddenly and spontaneously double their fanbase for no reason.

So, what's up with all the sudden Not Popular yuri stuff? Didn't it stop airing years ago? Did it get a new season recently or something?

Yeah, but the problem with that is that having Nanoha or Fate lose in a duel against Vivio would be dumb. Vivio can't even fly, as far as I'm aware, so Nanoha could literally just hover overhead and rain pink hellfire. Even if she didn't fly, we know that Nanoha is one of if not the single stongest character in the series. She can literally blast a hole in a warship designed to counter magic. Linking Vivio's character progression to an event they know will trigger fan outrage wasn't a smart move.

(I'm only like this because I'm watching Dragonball Super and having the exact same issue right now in that series, but that's a rant for another forum.

Vivid suffers from the same problem a lot of shounen does late in the franchise: actions no longer have consequence, and the characters are no longer faced with any interactions that would change their outlooks or goals. Ein and Vivio were interesting back when their fights were underscored by the circumstances of Saint Kaiser and Hegemon Ingvault, each fight gave us an idea of what motivates them and what experiences they've based their values on.

These days, Vivio wants to be strong not out of lingering regret for a past she can't change, but because... you know... strength and stuff. Protect things. Sure.

There are no stakes in this any of these fights. If Vivio loses it proves she's not strong enough, and she continues training. If Vivio wins it proves she's strong, and she continues training anyway. Ein won't die dramatically in a lost logia implosion like Fate might have, Ix won't fade away like Reinforce, Muira won't have to rescue a brainwashed Corona from an evil scientist.

I get that it's a slice of life, but the majority of it is action. And actions have no weight when they don't have consequences.

I get that I'm mostly reiterating points that were already made, but I wanted to point out that we did have a plot back at the start of this, and I dislike the idea that 'slice of life shounen' can get away with lazy development by taking two disparate genres and taping them awkwardly together. You can't have your cake and punch it, too.

Edit: It made more sense as it went, but that's still a really disorienting shift without much to establish where and when we are. Also, it didn't really resolve anything, which was weird.

I like this take on Satori, with this reliance on mind reading to define the people around her. It makes sense for someone with that kind of ability to treat anything outside of it as something almost terrifying in it's unpredictability. Under that light, the dynamic is actually incredibly complex. Makes me want to write a thing...

Can't remember the doujin, but Usually Dead's fanfic series Touhou Ibunshu actually had Reisen come to Earth with baby Sakuya to save her from the Moon Invasion, only for Remilia to kick her ass and say 'hey, this baby has a kickass fate, yoink'.

I do find it funny how everyone has such crazy different suggestions on which series to start on or avoid. I thought UBW was the best hook, it has the most action and best characterization, I think. Zero is pretty slow and heavy on drama, and the ending is kind of... weird.

Eh, it's more a matter of warning. Sure, family and friends are more likely to kill me, but at least I'll understand why and when it might happen. I'll see it coming, you know? Robot might kill me because a pressure sensor was gummed up and the welcome home hug contained 10000 newtons of hydraulic force.

Aw, that's adorable. And surprisingly consistent with how these characters act in canon.

Don't know if I'm a cynic, a realist or a pessimist, but I'd never get a sexbot like this. Leeza could just have easily gone yandere without even dropping the excited smile, and part of me would always be checking. An AI capable of love is an AI capable of hate.

Hell, not even hate, it might just be a weird coding error or logic fault that makes her facial recognition software see me as someone else and calmly choke me to death, I'unno, man, robots are scary when their programming isn't transparent.
