It think it's interesting that her stories still cause so much discussion and controversy about the way she does her stuff. Call her old school or toss the word cliche around as much as you like, but I think she still nails it just fine.

Both Ep 1 and 2 keep referencing the cold and warmth.

Gonna guess the warm is in reference to kinship/closeness, and the cold distance/loneliness?

I don't think Kotooka is takoyaki boy.
Mostly because Washio moved here just before Junior high from a distant village. And there were no people there her age
And she met takoyaki boy in grade school.
Seems the time lines don't match up for it to happen.
