This reminds me of a Slayers OVA from long ago where the ''villains'' turn out to have a major humiliation kink and end up worshiping Naga, to Lina's usual consternation :P Can't remember what it was called sadly, I'm sure I still have the DVD somewhere.

this is why i like this series so much bc instead of being a cute fluffy romance, its an introspective character study between two girls who arent perfect, which is pretty cool.

Mmhmm that’s me as well. The changing perspectives do a good job highlighting that relationships are two-way roads. They’re already teenagers, which makes everything awkward, but they’re also not exactly equipped for their situation either. Adachi’s mom is neglectful, poor girl has no idea how to interact with people, and Shimamura isn’t exactly a champ at the whole “friends” thing herself. It’s always an interesting back and forth between them and, as is the case for most good drama, I care much more about seeing them happy and fulfilled than I do just seeing them together because they’re the “main couple”

Speaking of the back and forth, I always loved how the upcoming mental breakdown places the ball squarely in Shimamura’s hands. Even if she doesn’t understand everything Adachi says, she gets to sit on how her perception of her has changed. I reeeeeeally like that, even if it takes a painful chapter to get there.

This is a very solid point. It's refreshing to read a story where the two main protag have real flaws that the author isn't shy about showing. Adachi is a giant mess at times and at her worst she can be downright toxic. Shimamura uses her ''go with the flow/ lazy girl'' persona to cover up a lot of very real insecurities and abandonment issues. These are less than perfect young people and it's fun to see them figure stuff out and improve.

Finally, a religion I can get behind !

Love triangle?

I feel like there has to be at least some balance for it to be a love triangle. Otherwise it’s just an endgame and an annoying character.

I don't see any scenario where he would have his place in a potential love triangle with these two. Mitsuki isn't looking for new friends and Oosawa barely even registers jerkface's existence. He a talking potted plant to them, at best. He's ''there'' .

Yep, we're closing in on THAT famous scene in the novels. Things are going to get real ugly for a bit, especially if you happen to also have a few social anxiety skeletons/bad memories in your own closet (^^)

I guess jerkface isn't so bad. He's nosey but not in a mean sort of way. He better not be looking to get between these two though cause then I'll hate him for good !!

I always get a bit of a chuckle out of the classic '' oh no I'm graduating high school soon, life will never be the same '' trope. Now that I am in my late thirties, I can really see how unimportant those few years actually are in the grand scheme of things. To be quite honest, the one thing I'd like to tell adolescent me if I had the chance to would be something like '' just chill, none of it matters to you in like 5 years and you don't talk to 98% of the people anymore anyway'' :P

It WOULD be nice if Komaki gave hints here and there that Hishikawa is starting to grow on her in a potentially romantic way. It's not much of a ''will they or won't they'' if one of the parties involved only sorta tolerates the other at best (^^) They have fun interactions and all but I can't help but want a bit more out of it.

I literally just finished watching the second season of the anime tonight, it's a pretty nice companion piece :-P Man, I'm really pulling for these two, they care for eachother so damn much. Please be an official couple !! :‑X

It's always a bit weird for me reading the manga because the novels are so far ahead at this point it's almost like a completely different story. The same with trying to rewatch the anime honestly, it's like movie 1 of a 5 movie franchise, except we probably won't ever get the other 4 movies, sadly (^^)

As someone who is extremely touchy-feely herself, I've had this same discussion on a number of occasions in the past XP My girlfriend is pretty ok with public displays of affection most times, but I do have to watch myself a bit (^^)

Fancy underwear and everything, she isn't messing around :O

So it's not the first time she did the whole sister contract thing , interesting :O With her actual sister maybe ? It probably wouldn't make much sense, I'm guessing she tried to ''fill the void'' with someone else before.
