Suuuuuuuuper not Kase's business.

I cannot interpret her actions here as anything but one lady telling another "Don't be a slut." Maybe I'm wrong in my interpretation, but if I'm not, that is hella bad.

She didn’t tell her not to flirt. She told her not to flirt with the new dudes.

The way I see it, Kase’s being a good friend. Given how Hana is a girl who from the country whose starved for some action, I can understand why Kase wants her to be careful and steers her in the direction of guys she does know who won’t so readily take advantage of a naive and eager girl. In this case, I think it’s appropriate.

Given Hana’s reaction to the underage drinking at the mixer, she might be biting off more than she can chew by attracting those randos.

I mean, where should we draw the line? Do we only step in when our friend is in trouble? Is it wrong if we try to guide them toward a safer route?

Of course, this is my interpretation based of magazine translations, not the publisher ones.

I think if we were gonna get into that, we would have already. It miiiiight happen, but I would be shocked if the reader was supposed to think Kase's actions are anything but hot and cute.

I only read the magazine version so it felt like a possibility that could come up in a series. But since it’s been pointed out that Kase doesn’t have an ex it’s probably more like Kase wants to protect her from the pervy dudes who might try to take advantage of Yamada. Those drunk dudes at the airport did get a bit touchy from what I remember.

Komachi out here trying to do everything to be like Ako to secure their bond.... Props to Yuki because she seems to know just how messed up Komachi is yet she’s still willing to be there for her.

Dang Maki, super forward of her. I guess she’s really going for what she wants in order to be happy. Is she gonna give Ako a ‘gift’? And Chie’s taco blocking is unsuccessful so far.... imagine she shows up to Mali’s apartment.

Yeah sorry, I didn't realize there were so much differences between the official release and the magazine release (even though "Yamada and Kase-san" is almost completely different), so that's why I was confused to some of the issues you raised, my bad ^^

The magazine version feels like it was supposed to be open ended. The publisher copies with extras seem like they’re more definitive.

Awaiting my amazon purchases to see just how different things are. I should probably see the differences between publisher copies and Dynasty with my other mangas as well....

I remember reading something on Citrus+ here and then the publisher version. The difference in wording totally set the whole thing in a different mood.

Not that I’m ungrateful for scantalators. They are performing a great service!

Maybe that's because she saw men hitting on her (eg: apron scene/ drunk guys in the airport scene) but never women ? Or maybe Kase thinks that there less chances of that happening (after all, we don't any other women couple besides them, contrary to others yuri manga) ?

But honestly you raise a good point.

I suppose it could be because Yamada has only been hit on by guys. Though, she’s not at all worried about Yamada being too friendly with a girl? She already knows Yamada’s open to dating girls and if Yamada is that clueless about guys approaching her, what more can a girl get away with? I realize it’s probably because being jealous about girls is more Yamada’s thing and that is one of the factors which separates their dilemmas.

And for the overanalyzing part, I'm sorry if it's sounded mean, this wasn't my attention. In my opinion, there not much to analyze but if you think there are points to examine you're free to develop and I'd like to read them ^^

It’s all good. I’ve admitted in prior posts about other series’s that I do in fact over analyze things. Like I said, the magazine version felt more open ended to me.

There’s like that recurring theme of the two of them reacting before they can talk about things. Jealousy/insecurity is also recurring so I figured the ex thing would probably happen.

So I’m going with the standby that Kase probably thinks guys are prone to be perverted and more aggressive and Yamada is utterly clueless to how attractive she is so that’s why Kase’s worried.

Well, if the series is a favorite, the tanks have been different enough to make them worth getting.

The "Cherry Blossoms" love scene in Vol. 5, from "You wanna?" to "warm cherry blossoms" in the magazine version is 6 panels; in the tank version it's 13+ adorkable pages.

It was my first time reading. I wanted to see if it was enjoyable before purchasing since tomboy wasn’t really my thing. Definitely ordering off Amazon now though.

You're correct, but it's only in the extra pages that were added in volume 4 to flesh out the "Crêpe and Kase-san" chapter. Here on dynasty we have the magazine version, the tank version is slightly longer. Here's what you need to see:

Only read the Dynasty version so thanks for clearing it up.

Yeah I was just saying it was overanalysis because it's unlikely that after 6 volumes there would hidden dark psychological backstory to the characters, at least not without clear hints during the manga.

The ex thing was not really addressed in the magazine version so I thought it might come up again, like maybe Yamada goes to a college meet and sees Kase’s for real ex or something like that. Jealousy is a reoccurring topic for this series after all.

I'm confused why are people saying Kase is only scared of guys hitting on Yamada but not girls? first of all, no girls have ever hit on Yamada, so how do we know Kase isn't afraid of girls hitting on her if we never seen it happen thus never seeing Kase's reaction to it? and secondly, in the apron chapters at some point Kase actually says I don't want another boy OR girl to take you away (or something along those lines) am i forgetting something here? i don't ever recall any girls flirting with Yamada besides Kase?

It’s only me saying it. In the Dynasty version, she tells her she doesn’t want to wear the apron in front of the guys. I don’t know if it’s the same for the official translation. When Kase San hears about Hana-Chan she’s not jealous about someone new entering Yamada’s life. Also, she says something about horny guys hitting on Yamada when she has the yukata on and I’m just out here going, girls can be horny too.

But like someone said, I’m just over analyzing things.

I'm pretty sure Kase herself told Yamada that she was her first girlfriend in the original serie.
Can't remember the exact page but I'm pretty sure that betwee Volume 3 and 5.

I think she only said she won’t love anyone but Yamada. If she didn’t have an ex, Kase’s probably projecting. She believes the guys want to get in Yamada’s skirt, much like herself. In Kase’s case, she at least caught feelings before she started lusting after Yamada. The guys that are hitting on Yamada don’t know any thing about her except that she’s cute.

Ah yes, the helpful and kind friend, stepping in to... tell a person she doesn't really know to "stop selling herself so cheaply" by wanting to talk to other human beings. A champ. It's a good thing she stepped in, or Yamada might have, uh, felt awkward about not knowing what to say in a social situation!

I think it was more like Kase didn’t want her to throw herself at some randos. Hana wasn’t looking for platonic conversation, she was looking to get her flirt on. Kase directed Hana over to the hut where the track guys she knew would be.

Are... are we supposed to be getting off on this? Is it supposed to be hot how there's this repeated story, the same thing over and over, where Kase desperately protects Yamada's innocence from the dirty outside world, and then takes Yamada off to do sexy things (and thus soil her innocence)? Like is "her purity is mine alone to violate!" a fantasy? Not to yuck anyone's yums, but I don't get it.

I don’t know if she’s protecting Yamada’s innocence from the outside world per se. Kase seems like she’s being possessive, which could be rooted to a fear of Yamada dumping her to conform with the rest of society and get with a dude, than her wanting to preserve Yamada’s purity.

These two just need to realize that the attention they’re both receiving from others is definitely unwanted.

I wonder if Kase’s defensiveness towards men approaching Yamada is the result of a prior negative experience? She seems fine with girls approaching Yamada so I wonder if her ex left her for a dude? Or maybe she knows the locker room talks boys share....

Though in Yamada’s case, I can understand why she’s protective. Yamada didn’t even know how girls did it. She doesn’t even realize she’s being hit on since she doesn’t know how attractive she is.

For Yamada, it’s normal to feel uneasy when you see pretty girls around your lover. To top it off, she believes Kase only dated girls with similar interests and combined with the fact that they don’t really spend a lot of time together, I get why things would fester.

I wonder if their anxieties will dissipate if they start being open about their relationship with at least their university friends/roommates.

The whole manga feels stilted. Not in a bad way though. It’s just the tone of the story. Everyone has things they want to say and/or a refusal to act on things. So far we have Ako and Maki’s ‘reasons’ for possibly continuing a relationship. It’s simple enough, they both make each other feel good.

Now for Komachi I don’t know enough about her. Is she just one of those twins that relish in having a single identity? But then she hasn’t cut her hair like her sister so I’m guessing she’s the type that’s obsessed with her sister, (still don’t know whether it’s romantic though) and just wants to do anything and everything so they won’t lose their bond. She’s complicated since we don’t know her intentions.

Poor Yuki. Hope she’s equipped to handle Komachi... who probably just cut herself....

I wonder if flashback girl is connected to both Chie and Maki.

I'm going to tentatively declare that Morinaga ships it and is gonna be an ally.

I'd love to eat crow on this, but there's no way an author who likes the concept of blackmail enough to write a manga about it is including them getting caught for any reason other than to establish a second layer of blackmail.

I hope she’s more of a voyeur. I’d prefer she blackmailed then into doing stuff in front of her. I’d hate for there to be drama with like Morinaga blackmailing the girls to do stuff with her or else she’ll tell and the girls will be shamed.

I hope Morinaga doesn’t start blackmailing them. One blackmailer is enough. Hopefully she’ll help them realize their feelings instead, not through jealousy, but through encouragement.

"I'm hoping Yuki's not in love with Ako"

You mean Komachi instead of 'Yuki', Komachi being the younger twin?

Thanks for the catch but either way, it works cuz I’m hoping Yuki only has eyes for Komachi.

this... will be utterly painful. gonna be honest here, I'm rooting for Yuki. If anything happens between her and her goals i'll punch someone.

I'm rooting for Yuki too. The friend hardly ever gets the girl and her character so far seems decent. I'm hoping Komachi’s not in love with Ako, just obsessed because she wants their 'twinness' to remain strong, so Yuki won't feel like a rebound.

There are five chapters of this out at the moment. Typesetter-chan was kind enough to help me with this one so I don't have to do everything myself like the first chapter. This is a pretty good manga in my opinion, especially in the next few chapters. If you like the emotional roller coaster types of stories, this one's for you. The manga admittedly tries to play coy about what it really wants to do, but everything will become clear soon enough.

With the exception of Ako every one else's motivations/feelings are hinted at. I love reading between the lines and I appreciate how subtle everything is at the moment so I'm definitely hooked.

Hopefully the date will clarify Ako's feelings to Maki sensei and help her make a better decision.

I think she pretty much gets that Ako likes her. I just don't know whether Maki will agree to date her out of guilt/pity/duty or because she feels the same.

Yuki could be persistent with Komachi and simply be there for her, which can then develop into love between the two.

I'm shipping them so I'm down for that.

The way the author hides Chie sensei's face when interacting with Making sensei, shows some sad history between the two of them.

Yeah, there's definitely an untold story there.

Hopefully the fires burns and leaves behind a beautiful picture.

Seems like this story could have any combination of pairs ending up as couples.

It can go in any direction and it'd be believable because we don't know the characters that well yet.

Ako found someone that helps her escape her anxieties but does Maki return her feelings? Or will she go along with things out of pity/sense of duty? Yuki's into Komachi but Komachi's too obsessed with her sister. I don't know quite know whether it's romantic or borne out of this desire that they remain close/nothing change between them. And Chie seems like she also might be into Maki but it could be something else since unrequited love friend already exists.

Yet again, I'm here to watch this dumpster fire burn.

I wouldn’t be surprised if unknown high school girl turns up to be the developed version of Coach from Eve’s medicine.

Ending felt abrupt. It’s cool that Ibu and Yuni got a for now ‘happy ending’ (because they’re gonna have to hide their scissor sessions real well or else) but everyone else is in limbo.

That’s disappointing but understandable. Thanks for all your hard work.

So which publisher do we tweet for this beauty to get picked up?

This is just too precious! I loved that little cheek kiss.

I like how the characters are getting closer. I especially love how Tsugu is slowly developing romantic feelings while Aria doesn’t know she’s been in love since they were kids.

I wonder if they’ll ever do outdoor climbing? Imagine Aria and Tsugu stuck in a cave while it’s raining outside, clothes are wet, and Aria’s gay panicking.

It‘s impossible to please everyone. People have varying beliefs in regards to what wholesome means to them. Imposing qualifications would be difficult because who really has authority to draw the line? Staff can regulate but that won’t stop the occasional reader from believing the tag doesn’t belong.

I see the characters strictly as symbols rather than constructs of fictional people we are meant to sort of relate to/empathize with if that makes sense.

Ibu and Ena are first love and sexual awakenings, the difference between them is Ena is willing to commit while Ibu is still reluctant.

Coach seems like the symbol of sexual freedom while Kaori represents the typical repressed woman who craves sex but does not dare speak it for the minute she does, she’s considered a dirty slut by society.

Yuni is the typical working adult, bored with her day to day life and looking for solace. In her case, it just happened to be the arms of an innocent middle schooler.

The thing that separates Yuni from Coach is that Yuni just seems to only have eyes for Ibu while coach wants all the girls if she can get away with it.

I'd say: Too. Many. Characters.
There are only few stories that benefit from a large cast, I don't think this one is one of them.
I like world-building and expansion of the lore... but I feel this story lost track of what it wanted to tell.
The premise had me interested, but nowadays I only check the updates to see if the original MCs appear and if their subtext romance moves along...

It just feels like they’re there so we can look at cute cat girls which isn’t a bad thing but the story started off with such promise. Now it’s trying to jam pack all these things so it’s going through arcs just to get through the next one.

The lack of emotional connection to the main characters also throws off the whole thing. The girls at Anna’s cafe feel like the only thing tying them to the others is the fact that they are Catulus. Which I know is the point of the story but the lack of depth is too obvious to ignore.

The friendships Yuki and Ayano formed with Kozue and Mimika felt organic. The inclusion of Marron highlighted how hard it was for Congenitals to find a connection with someone. Anna’s presence solidified the hardship and also created tension.

Now the tone and over all story seems to have this back and forth between showing how the mains develop, showing amusing things/cat girl shenanigans, and showing other cat girls. It’s disjointed, picking one thing at a time instead of finding a way to harmonize and do everything together if that makes sense.

anim8tur
joined Mar 8, 2019

Catalus don’t give out pheromones? There’s no way to detect if a person is a true Catalus aside from their appearance? I thought they had cat traits but perhaps heightened sense of smell isn’t one? Or maybe Anna also sprays herself to make it authentic.... Does Maron know?

I really like this story, but so far it’s feeling like it’s setting up these really great arcs but it doesn’t follow through and fizzles out of them pretty quickly....

Maybe I’m still salty over the kittens...
