Ugh. Time skip ending. How original. No wonder this manga wasn't popular.

Wasn't popular with who? Incels? Misogynist assholes who lurk on mangadex? People who can't deal with reality? Yeah, I wouldn't want my story to be popular with those people, either.

This has me curious what Mangedex had to say about this manga, I once made the mistake of reading the comments for FukaBoku on there, so I can imagine it wasn't anything good.

I actually like the way this time skip was handled, and the bold choice to focus on just their child was pretty unique and interesting.

People sure need trigger warnings for the darnedest things these days.

Nobody here said anything about trigger warnings until you.

I dont agree with anyone calling her a player or womaniser.. It seems far more unfocused than that.. Like she just drifts about without aim? I mean its functionally very similar but I mean I didnt sense or see any consious manipulation or self serving behaviour really? She was about to move out till she was stopped.

Maybe... Maybe not
Making it seem like it's all your idea is a pretty common manipulation tactic. Not to mention it seems she might have been lying about her situation with her ex.

So like I don’t get the problem with single target sexuality? I know to each their own and all but like a few people seem to be against it and I just want to know why? I’m curious.

I dislike it for a few reasons, the biggest one for me is that in yuri and yaoi in particular, it is often used as a way to sort of distance the work from the LGBT community, it almost feels like the author is slapping a big NO HOMO sticker on the work "they're not gay, they just love each other". I dislike it for other reasons as well, for example, it gives sort of soul mate vibes, which is not something I'm a fan of in romantic works. It's also used as a hand wave, which is what this work mostly used it for, where it is sort of used as a way to avoid any difficult discussions about the deception.

Of course if the line about single target sexuality is bad if we look at it alone, but I think commenter blow this out of proportional by disregarding the context as well as the characterization of the main character. In fact I think 80% convo happened in this thread is about cherry-pick action/words, cut it off from the context and comment of how bad it is. It is just show how people sometimes lack of reading comprehension at a time.

What the fudge are you even talking about?

Eh, single target sexuality may be my least favorite trope in yuri

So it's about 80% of all yuri manga.

Unfortunately, yeah

Actually, never mind, I thought about it for a second and realized, it's not actually all that common with modern Yuri, at least not how I'm defining it. I don't mean cases where they only show attraction to one person, that's just a typical romance, I mean more like series where it is specifically stated or implied that single target sexuality is at play.

not to light any fires, but why do people think Every story(manga or not) about trans people has to be educational ?? can we not just have cute stories too ?
you don't read every single yuri expecting to be taught about all about the struggles of lesbians, so why is this any different ?

This is more a matter of what gets published than anything. The trans community at large would love more variety in works about trans people, but that isn't what gets published. There is a bit of speculation as to why, but I personally think it's because the cis people in charge of publishing don't believe in publishing works about trans people unless there is some sort of reason why the character HAS to be trans. You see this sort of thing with all sorts of minorities. Although FukaBoku is willing to get a little fluffy from time to time, one of the reasons it's my favorite manga about trans people.

Mayhaps the older sister put these two together for a reason...

OH, definitely, i mean it gets rid of the lady who is in love with her and it'll get her useless lesbian sister a girlfriend, killing two birds with one stone.

So some people think it's fine to cripple someone as long as you're forgiven?https://www.britannica.com/science/Stockholm-syndrome

I guess it's supposed to be metaphorical? But, I'm not good with metaphors, so to me it's just horrific.

Honestly, I'm just kinda glad that this incredibly flawed manga gets to end with some level of dignity.

What is up with these manga and introducing a third wheel nobody cares about? Every chapter with her feels like a waste.

She's had these powers her whole life, but for some reason thought she could avoid love at an all girls school? Protagonist is an idiot.

I think the reviewers (like many people in the comments at ANN) found out that the author also does hentai works and that's the angle they took to completely disregard this works (based on some comments mocking the manga saying this is just a fetishism manga) the characters and even the author.

I think it is very likely related to this weird neo-puritan zeitgeist. It is an ever increasingly frustrating ideology that once a LGBT+ artist creates a work that conveys even the slightest bit of sexual thought they are forever tainted as not one of the good upstanding members of the LGBT+ community and now all their works are secretly aimed at cis/het people. Of course this is a bad thing as cis/het people consuming LGBT+ media created by LGBT+ creators is fetishization, where as cis/het people writing queer characters is good and not tokenism because it shows how far we've come in the neoliberal quest for gestures without action. Far more damage is done by excluding LGBT+ creators whose lived experiences or fantasies involve sex or abuse or other "problematic" elements than could ever be done by those evil fetishizing cis/het men and women consuming such media. People's experiences and fantasies involve sex and relationships that are not perfect and healthy, erasing these stories and creators from LGBT+ spaces because you dislike them or think that some greater public will dislike them and thus set back the "movement" is no better than the outright attacks by the religious neofascists who have used these same refrains of pedophilia and abuse for 60 years.

Im not gonna get into any wild theorizing, I just disagreed with the review.

Hmmm is odd that someone would ask if this is an accurate representation and then 5 comments later someone ask if this is a good representation.

Speaking of yes or no, ANN did a review and https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/review/love-me-for-who-i-am/.161220 ... this person didn't took it well, not at all, so according to ANN this is a very bad representation, I don't know if someone here could agree.

Yeah, I massively disagree with that review. She's just flat out wrong in a number of ways. For example, the author of that review claims that Mogumo's efforts to be feminine indicate the mangaka thinks that Mogumo's gender is for the benefit of Tetsu or something, but they are flat out wrong, this is just a review about the first volume and they are making sweeping assumptions about a plot point that hasn't been resolved yet. That subplot very clearly concludes in the next volume that Mogumo shouldn't change themself for others, tbh im not sure why the reviewer didn't see that it would obviously resolve this way, i knew before the actual resolution, how that would end. Other complaints just seemed like weird nitpicking to me, like they were upset the manga doesn't go into why these characters are trans, which to me is extremely reductive, i don't have some elaborate reason why im trans, i just am.

As a trans girl I can say that this is pretty good representation wise. All the trans women are well portrayed, Mei especially is very relatable to me, and they're all properly written as characters instead of them just being "representation" or whatever. The story doesn't much deal with the problems that come with being trans, rather it's more focused on portraying different kinds of "weird" people in a positive light, which is also why the mc is a cis guy instead of a trans character.

What? Tetsu is not the main character, Mogumo is, Tetsu is the deuteragonist or maybe a co-protagonist at best. He was introduced as the POV character, but that quickly changed. Even when he is serving as the POV character, the story still revolves around Mogumo and their relationship with others.

This manga is weird to me, as much as I want to like it, and as many admirable qualities that it does have, it often just feels way too dour for me to get into it the way I would like

The raws for chapters eleven and twelve are even worse. Something has clearly happened, but I'm not sure what.
