I'm wondering if I'm the only one bothered by how casually Shiro just tells Nanako to do stuff for her. Like, c'mon, just calling your neighbor to be your on-demand maid whenever you're not motivated is pretty scummy.

Man, whenever characters take this kind of unprompted, drastic change in personality, I get taken out of things a little. Just talk like normal people, all this secret intrigue stuff is so roundabout. At least this manga seems like it's going to have a legit reason, unlike "a kid told me my smile was scary so if I ever smile I shut everyone out of my life in fear".

Yeah, lifting more than twice your body weight while flying should result in one swole pigeon. It's a shame, I always love when a series tackles mythical or magical stories from a perspective of pure anatomy or science. That and Harpy-chan here could have had a really cool juxtaposition of bubbly cuteness and fuckin' ripped back and upper arm muscles. Moe dissonance!

All that being said, yeah, this artist doesn't seem like he has the best idea of how to draw solid musculature or definition, hence all the characters being 90% 'squish' sound effects and soft corners.

Also agree that she's totes a succubus, if the early and constant illness wasn't a tipoff Harpy passing out after kissing certainly is. Liking the hard yuri in chapter 2, no beating around the bush on that one.

Cool, so one is completely without empathy or remorse for a life of social cruelty, and the other justifies her behavior with "she's a princess, she was born to be high above us rabble". This feels like a dating sim where King Joffrey is the protagonist.

God I hope they keep this cutesy moe style while they wade knee-deep through the fallen English dead. Completely unironic, straight faced the whole time. Like Lucky Star meets Gunslinger Girl.

^Lol- don't you think that that is the point of the story? Its obviously about a girl who had grown up with really shallow and selfish ideas - and she will, hopefully from learning about real life and people, become a decent human. You are not meant to like her how she is at the start - the story title even calls her useless.

I get that's the plan, I'm saying that they did too good a job in making me dislike her. I'm sure it'll spend the rest of the manga redeeming her, but I get the feeling she'll spend most of it being tsun, continuing her mean streak in technically not as overt ways until they become friends. But right now, I can't help but feel like the fact that the fact that her first hardship was met with immediate comfort and kindness is getting off really easy.

It would have felt so much better if she realized that all her friends actually hated her, she ruined her chances with the person who might have cared, and now she's alone. And then she can start working towards fixing things. This whole 'well, I guess I'll have to rely on this ugly bitch who saw me cry, God how pathetic' doesn't strike me as a great start towards self-reflection.

Damn, I'm not sure any amount of development is going to make me empathize with this lead. She's straight up cruel to people who are just trying to get by, and even after she gets what's karmically coming to her, she's still preemptively accusing other people of backstabbing her. She doesn't even realize or regret what her actions might have done to this girl, and now she's going to rely on her for emotional support? Fuck that, I say kick her while she's down. I'm not down with bullying, and no amount of crocodile tears are gonna make me care now.

Also, "I can't smile at her or she'll hate me! The best thing to do is to ignore her and avoid looking at or talking to her, that's the only way I can be a good friend!"

Something of a catch-22. If they make it a legitimately good reason for trauma, the manga takes a whiplash inducing turn away from light and fluffy towards serious dark themes like abuse. If they don't, the tone remains consistent but we all feel like Aikawa is kind of ridiculous.

Maybe there's a middle ground, like maybe Aikawa has stupid high expectations on her and equates friendship with a lack of proper discipline and priorities?

What kind of life does Aikawa lead that the act of smiling is cause for panic and complete isolation? Aaaagh, this manga is making me ask questions it has no interest in answering!

I do like that Bocchi has had actual character growth, but I wonder if we're not stuck in 4-koma sitcom territory now that she has some stability. Been a while since I felt the feels of the early chapters.

I'm not saying people can't be interested in stuff, and I'm certainly not saying they aren't allowed to make stuff, just wondering what happened that put it back into the public eye. Usually when a series gets a lot of attention it's because of a recent development, not many shows just suddenly and spontaneously double their fanbase for no reason.

So, what's up with all the sudden Not Popular yuri stuff? Didn't it stop airing years ago? Did it get a new season recently or something?
