The idea that you can see colors outside the normally visible spectrum (I mean, the spectrum perceptible by ordinary visual functioning) is not as crazy as it may seem at first impression. Human color sensation is based on the sensitivity responses of the retina's three types of cone cells, which are later processed at the brain's visual cortex. There are ways to manipulate the signals from the cone cells so that they will be set in the cortex to combinations that the eye normally does not produce. Experimentation has led to very surprising results.

I don't think this one is similar to yagakimi at all. The only similarity I see between the two is the train crossing scene, which seems to very obviously mirror that one scene in yagakimi. But even that's not as meaningful here as it is there (where the train cleverly hides Touko's kiss from the people around them).

I agree completely. Good and serious? There are cartloads of yuri manga like that. As for methodical and focused, it's not that common, but it's not really uncommon either. There are many that follow that narrative path.

This awesome manga is not imitating anything. There's no cause to question its originality.

I know, right? The combination of supernatural horror and psychological horror is great. Lovecraft usually did the former, rarely the latter. In this story, the balance is perfect. Nahum is forced to witness the slow degeneration of his family, and there's nothing he can do to stop it. The land is poisoned, the water is poisoned, the animals, the crops, everything is "pizened" as he says himself... and yet they cannot leave: they are dirt poor, they have nothing else, they would be doomed in the big city (he would be probably jobless, they would have to beg and eventually starve). And, at the same time, Ammi (who is an external witness, unlike Nahum) has to face a horror that only reveals itself little by little: the manifestation of an alienness beyond our reality, something the human mind cannot grasp, typified by an impossible color outside the spectrum that he is completely unable to define or describe.

The adaptation is great, awesome art and pace. Tanabe is an extraordinarily talented author. And yes, really, it's as you say: only in a comic in black and white could you actually "show" the color out of space to the readers.

There's one book and a half remaining (the manga has 5 volumes, we are in the middle of volume 4).

Both Dark_Tzitzimine and Lilliwyt are right. Payapaya Scans was the original scanlator, but the guys they had working on this manga got tired of it and dropped it. There was a hiatus of 2 years with no new releases, then Payapaya started working with /u/ people to continue the scanlation.

The release schedule is irregular and unpredictable... but at least we are certain that new chapters will keep coming. Also, I just took a look at the Payapaya news page, and they promise that the next two or three chapters should be out in a much shorter time frame than usual. Yay!
