CAPTAIN OBVIOUS here!
This kind of story is depressing but also great, because it's a good reminder to evaluate your relationships carefully and see things from your partner's perspective. The main character sees what she's doing as "making more money so we can have a more comfortable life," while the girlfriend just sees it as "I promise I'll never let you be lonely... now excuse me while I work late hours every day and take a 2 week business trip during the fireworks festival I promised you we could watch from here."
RIP relationship. Don't let your life turn into a Drama tag.
CAPTAIN OBVIOUS, awaaay!

Why is it all the working woman's fault? The whole "If my partner really loves me, they would know how I feel" thing has destroyed many relationships. Love doesn't give you magic empathic powers. If her girlfriend felt lonely, she should have said so. So I think there is plenty of blame to go around.
It's a real shame, It looks like there was real love between them.

Edit: Sorry. After rereading TehSlan's (AKA CAPTAIN OBVIOUS) post, I think I got the wrong idea the first time. I think Tehslan is pretty much saying the same thing as me.
There is an important lesson here people! You should always reread a post, a couple of times, before posting a rant against it. You don't want to look like an idiot, arguing the wrong point.

I know I will probably catch flak for this, but if you genetically modify women, so they can impregnate each other, wouldn't they technically be hermaphrodites, and not females. Does this story even count as a yuri?

You never see a boy in a romance manga, learning to cook, just so he can make the girl he likes smile.

Yeah, we never see Nisekoi’s Raku learning to cook because he was already pretty good at it at the start of the series. =)

^ I don't know who that is, but I bet he didn't learn to cook so he could prove his worth to a girl.

For the record: I think everyboby should learn to cook. It's just a useful life skill to have.

Wait! Japanese girls can just choose to wear pants, to school!? This is huge! Now all we have to do, is get the japanese, to stop seeing their women as live in housekeepers, who make babies, and we have a full blown sexual revolution.

Your impression of Japanese women doesn't seem to fall in line with their birth rate problem.

I know they have a looming population crisis, but I still think japanese still feel a woman's place is in the home. You never see a boy in a romance manga, learning to cook, just so he can make the girl he likes smile.

While there is that Yamato Nadeshiko trope, there are plenty of works subverting that. In fact I think the male leads in male oriented romance works are way more pathetic than most female leads.

It depends on what you mean by pathetic. If you mean the guy has no life skills, so the girl has to take care of him. I don't see that as an improvement.

You think Japanese stuff is bad, try some modern Chinese light/web novels, lol. No comparison. They drop some pretty hilarious backwards one-liners sometimes. Things straight out of the 1960s.

Yeah, I've heard the chinese are worse. Honestly, I think we in U.S. have quite a ways to go ourselves. It's a long hall project.

The problem Japanese culture has right now is that everyone works, works, works, all day and no one is home to make babies in the first place. Or you get a situation where the husband almost lives at work and the wife basically controls the house to the extent that he's more of a guest when he does come home than an actual resident. But, I digress.

Putting this in a different light: Japanese society has evolved to prevent overpopulation by literally working people so hard that they don't have the time/ energy to procreate.

Half-jokes aside I'm not a fan of Japan's present family model.

The way I understand it, is they have the same problem we do here. Their wages aren't keeping up with inflation, even though their corporations, are raking in the dough. The japanese are just culturally conditioned to quietly bare it.

Telling your new roommate, you don't need to know their name! I think I'd use words way more harsh, than selfish to describe you!

I choose to believe Saaya was just overcome by how cute her little is, and not the temptation to do something really sick.

Honestly Subtext bores me. Mainstream manga is already full of ambiguously close relationships between girls, I go for yuri to get solid hookups.

If something is ambiguous it doesn't meet the requirements to be subtext. Subtext means that it's part of the story but it's not explicitly portrayed.
What you're most likely looking are explicit yuri manga where yuri is the main genre of the story, but Watamote isn't that, Watamote is basically a SoL with one explicit yuri character and some hinted situations that may or may not be interpreted as yuri from a few others.

So Subtext tag is just when the ambiguous nature of the girl' relationship is part of the plot, right?
I guess I'm not interested then. I'm sure the story is fine, but if there isn't, at least, a big dramatic yuri kiss scene, at the end, I'll pass.

(sigh) I know there are people who have masochistic tastes. However, why does anime, and manga always make characters, that take it to ridiculously over the top levels. It's not funny, it's creepy.

I think this manga's saving grace is how over the top it is. Also, even though I'm very used to the exaggeration humor of anime and manga, this one still manages to take unexpected turns, I never expect schoolgirls to get that crazy about mundane things.

I really think the masochistic schoolgirl was way over the top. so much so, I spent the entire chapter cringing, and racing to the end, just to get it over. I just hope she isn't going to be a long term regular character.

Kind of a weird way to find love. I like it though. Not sure if Gay for pay fits, seeing that Rin was gay to begin with, and Ritsu wasn't paying for sex.

This second part was great, I hope this author continues this series, either with +18 content or not, and that perhaps this inspires the real Watamote manga too. Also the latest manga chapter was great too, someone should upload the complete thing here.

Is the original manga yuri?

Edit: I've found that a lot of fan stories are misleading. I've read them and thought, wow that pairing is definitely worth checking out, just to find that the pairing is femslash that is only the writer's wishful thinking. There has been times when the two characters' relationship wouldn't even quality for the Subtext

The series isn't a yuri series, but Tomoko herself is a sexually frustrated bisexual who pervs on her friends whenever the situation arises, and there is at least one confirmed lesbian character. I will say that if you do read it, a pair of light yuri reading goggles can make the experience much better. This is definitely a series that appeals to the yuri fanbase, and having context for the fanart makes it much more enjoyable.

Students are always collapsing, during school, in anime, and manga. I don't remember anyone collapsing my entire time in school.

Just when I think Kasumi, and Sakurako are just playing love games, there is something that makes me think that there are lovey dovey things, going on, between the two, off camera.

I was pretty sure when this series started it was labeled subtext? Am I seeing things?

Series DO change tags as they evolve. You cant say it doesn't have yuri any more :)

When Kasumi and Sakurako’s mom worked out the preliminary wedding agreement, yeah, I’d say a line had definitely been crossed.

I only read the yuri section, and I've been with this one sense the beginning.

Sometimes it feels like Kasumi is just using Sakurako, because Sakurako pampers her. Then the story loses a lot of it's cuteness.

Okay, I loved this, I want more domestic lesbians. But... HOW!? (Scratching my head).

Science Babies

edit: Or I guess if you want an actual real-world reason, iPS Cells would be a good start. From my very limited understanding, they're capable of, essentially, being made into any kind of cell. They've been utilized already to produce viable offspring in mice, so there's a possibility they could be used to make actual, real, human Science Babies.

edit2: Also I was looking forward to this SO MUCH! Kougi Hiroshi's ChikaRiko is my favorite LLS ship, and when I saw that WSDHANScanlations was working on this, I got so hype. Thanks you very much for your work!

I was just humorously pointing out, that the story failed to explain how two women simply jump into bed together, and make a baby. Unless I really missed a lot in health class, that is impossible, even with iPS cell tech. I'm pretty sure you would need trips to a fertility clinic, months , maybe even years of waiting, and lots, and lots of money. It definitely wouldn't be something two women could pull off, by themselves on a whim.

the afterwards made me laugh lol hitting all those wholesome fetish points!

The only thing this was missing was Riko with a cute baby bump T_T but still so adorable

What makes you so sure it was Riko who carried the baby?

Idk. Guess I just imagine Chika as more of the ‘dad’ in this situation. (Plus chika with a cock sounds delicious)

Nah. I'm all about breaking the butch / femm stereotype. So, I was actually rooting for Chika being the birth mother. Besides the story was working so hard to portray Riko as the mom and Chika as the dad that I thought making Chika the birth mother would be a cute twist.

P.S. I actually thought Chika came off, more like a close friend, who moved in to help a single mom, raise her child, than a dad.

Whoa! When did this comment section became a warzone worse than the one at Citrus???

I never understand when people complain about other people discussing manga in a manga discussion thread.

A lively disscussion is way more fun than a bland one, where all everybody does is talk about how cute the story is. Plus I find I get more from the story, because I get to see it from different perspecitives.
