The two pairings are kind of working different angles. The excitable, outgoing human-puppydog Nadeshiko is kind of the yin to Rin's yang, whereas Sakura is more like Rin's evolved form- still aloof, but with added beauty and maturity (as well as height.) I can see Rin falling for either one, just for different reasons.
