Of course Hibiki's approach isn't generally applicable, it just happened to be effective with Minato, and only to a point. The pressure exerted by Hibiki has been building up inside Minato this whole time, and it reached critical levels in chapter 11, with the "you're just like your father" comment being the explosion. At least now Hibiki is starting to catch on that good intentions are not enough; she needs to respect Minato

TL;DR: AdaShima has ridiculous amounts of slow-burn and navel-gazing in every medium, so the only choice you have is the degree of slow burning you'll be subjecting yourself to. And again, I'm saying this as someone who actually likes the damn story.

This is true, and I actually happen to like the novels too. I prefer romance between characters who already know each other, and I also like long conversations, monologues and tangents, which are harder to do in manga. Adashima happens to fall into this niche, so even though I consider it pretty flawed, I'm still compelled to care about it. The anime could iron out these wrinkles and become the best version of the story, but there's no way to know yet.

The problem is the author isn't doing enough development. We are at volume 9 and their relationship hasn't getting any better. If anything, it got worse with Adachi being more and more selfish and Shimamura just going along with it because, in the absence of love (Shimamura doesn't really love Adachi), she figures the best she can do for Adachi is giving in to her demands.

Am I supposed to root for them when they're so dysfunctional and unhealthy together? I don't think so.

Whether or not you like the writing, that's your business, but the idea that Shimamura doesn't love Adachi is just something you simply decided to be true, because you don't like their relationship. It's not an actual fact.
