Okay, watched PriConne. ...Mixed bag. Karyl is good and her relationship with Pecorine is cute (if still in the realm of subtext). Good animation. But the plot either needed way more time or to be way less convoluted, and it just generally got kinda weak whenever it was focusing on the gacha bait of the week. Worthwhile if you're bored, I guess

The furry anime from trigger doesn't look like a big succeed, at least in my circle of friends people didn't talk about it.

General consensus seems to be that it's good but not great. But the main issue is that Netflix's binge model just kills discussion. Particularly when it comes out in Japan first so half the potential fandom watches it ahead of time

Communication is important in a relationship

I love Yukiko's art, but has anyone ever made fanart of this series?

We have five images on the site from other artists

Huh, that was a surprisingly normal chapter. Kinda worrying if that's foreshadowing, though

Well, I like it more than the last attempt at FGC x yuri, at least. Not really drawing me into the story, but the comedy is decent

Kinda fun how π4U has elements of so many different fighting games; character designs are pretty KoF, presentation and naming like SF, GG-style cancels, and fatalities straight from MK

this reboot will probably be as gay as the editors let him get away with.

Which isn't necessarily very much? When you have an anime announced around the same time as a manga that generally means that the anime was conceived first and the manga is based on it

I've read some of the manga (which I think is on the site?), which I vaguely recall being kinda gay, but also offputtingly 90s. But it looks like this is a sequel (albeit one looking to attract a new audience), so it's not beholden to the character dynamics of the original. And the tendency for modern all-female franchises is to have some yuri, so I'd expect some

Weird that this is happening, though. It's old and was never really a major hit

At least Bakarina get S2

They covered most of the good stuff in S1, though. It's just harem shenanigans without any real advancement from this point forward

Okay, caught up on the WN. I don't think we have a thread for it, so I'm putting this here:

I'm not sure this was a story that really needed a sequel, but volume 2 has been reasonably good so far. Like, I don't like it as much as early volume 1, but I definitely like it more than late volume 1. The story feels more cohesive; things have proper buildup and payoff. The mysteries are more compelling now that Rei doesn't know the answers. The stakes not being "will Claire survive" makes it easier to care about what's happening, since, again, the answer's not obvious. Supporting cast feels like they have more depth this time. On the downside, the villains are still more theatrical then I'd like, and there's kinda too much going on. And, you know, we're past the cute budding romance stage of our leads' relationship

Speculation:

I think Joshua and Otto might end up together? The lack of any gay dudes has been conspicuous
I'll be genuinely surprised if Alea isn't immune to magic. Which raises questions about Dorothea and Manaria's relationship...
Reifaces are presumably some sort of destined individuals (possibly all transmigration cases?), so we'll probably see more of Irie
The obvious assumption with Eve is that she's hung up on Louis, but with how drawn out the reveal has been I feel like it's going to be something more dramatic

It’s okay to disagree! It opens up more room for discussion. I found Rei to be a rather bland, empty shell of a character. In my opinion, her not so defined personality is good for allowing the reader to insert themselves into the character. But I personally enjoy characters with strongly defined personalities, such as Bakarina. Why do you feel that Rei gets better as the story progresses? Do you think Rei experiences any character growth and how?

...I had the opposite experience as you? I found Catarina to start off as a moderately unusual character, but she pretty quickly just ends up being nice and dumb, and not much else. In comparison, Rei starts out as this weird sadomasochistic goofball, reveals a more cunning side in short order, and continues to get a bit more depth as the story progresses. I don't think either are particularly fresh or inventive characters, but I'd definitely say that Rei's the one with a more defined personality

What is so amazing. lol. I love-love art and design, so one full chapter talks volumes about it and about world building. Because manga is not a book, it have concrete visual design, which is fundamental language in this media.

It's constrained by the original text, though. And the original text says that while the world of Revolution has surprisingly nuanced and realistic politics, a lot of minor things were copypasted from modern Japan for the audience's sake. It being a game world is actually fairly important to the plot

does the story gets better?

...It gets more story. Honestly Claire and Rei's interactions are my favourite part of it so I like the early stuff the best, but there's going to be a lot of intrigue and worldbuilding that takes things in a rather different direction

Did our MC always like this, give us some masochist vibe till the end?

Yep. But Claire settles down, so the S&M vibes don't entirely last

Rei loves the warm Claire just as much as she loves the Claire we see here.

One of the first chapters of volume 2 has Rei nostalgic for getting bullied...

Wait, already? I just finished the first volume of the WN yesterday!

The girls look about how I pictured them, but the only prince that looks at all close to what I expected is Rod

Pretty solid as an adaptation; the events are mostly the same (a few things are combined), but it's tweaked to fit the format better, and we get to see more of Claire. Biggest difference is making Rei and Claire's relationship more obviously mutual, that scene at the end wasn't in the original

What happened to the girl who's body she is in?

This gets covered later. Much later, if it's in the same place as the original

Covid really fucked summer, only 1 new all-girl show.

Yeah, three harems and only Lapis Re:Lights on the yuri side of things. A tiny season, but still really lopsided

Well technically the CGDCT on fishing was been delay back to Summer so there is that.

Does that count? I already know I dislike it

This series is so weird. It keeps trying to have wild twists and questionable relationships, but it's too wholesome for any of it to stick

Well, this is a distressing read. Interesting to see a long-form Touhou story that's not written by ZUN or a comedy, though

I think people just feel bad for Mahiru getting left out?
