Was there anything in the first panel that would have given it away? I know we see her walking with a cooler, but that could, theoretically, have been filled with normal stuff.

Could have, but combined with the rest of it, and the rain certainly not being suitable for a picnic... And at the very least would not have been as surprised to see senpai neatly boxed away for her upcoming funeral like this.

As cute as that was, and even actually getting Ichigo to quietly acknowledge her feelings for Yaya, this is still no way to end it... It does at least give us hope for an eventual happy ending for the two of them, though.

I thought that was obvious from the moment the first love was mentioned, even before we were actually shown her.

by the way and speaking of harumin, it is curious that after 16 volumes, no one can categorically affirm (and there are still conflicting debates) whether harumin liked it, or likes yuzu in a way Romantic or not. And that just shows that we haven't had any real character development in harumin

Oh, come on... For all of its faults, you can't accuse Citrus of having no character development for Harumin just because we have no confirmation or denial of her romantic feelings, as if that were the only real measure of development.

In the past it did seem like Saburouta probably had something in mind for Harumin's later development, perhaps in relation to Matsuri, but at this point I'm not convinced the author has anything methodical planned for anyone's development.

Not going to deny that, this has probably been the case ever since the original series descended into its repetitive drama spiral.
