I've already read this on danbooru, but I might as well post my thoughts here as well. Can't say this is as good as the others. It's more brutal, but it's not justified. The Buddhist temple situation was net positive with nobody actually getting hurt. Canni-can disposed of people who were going to commit suicide anyway and used them to maintain the peace. This, they skinned a child alive and then ate him for... what? Ceremony? There's no higher purpose here, no white to go with the black, no yang to the yin.

Didn't someone offer a perfectly sound rebuttal on danbooru? Social mores and tradition keeping is roughly half the reason Gensokyo even exists. There are plenty of things wrong you can poke at in the Touhou-canon without inconsistently applying your particular set of moral mores. Outsider humans being "free game" for youkai, Reimu slaughtering humans-turned youkai, etc etc.

Huh the flavor I was expecting from the depressing as fuck tag was a totally different type than I was expecting.

It's an ongoing theme throughout Zounose's works and Suwako in particular. Gods are dependent, and a reflection, of the people and their methodology of worship. Suwako has a crisis in introspection because of this in literally every other work I see from Zounose.

There are so many people who complain about making dark touhou doujins when roughly a fourth of the characters backstories are canonically fully trenched in happy things like death, murder, tragedy or betrayal.

As a big Hong Meilin fan, this story makes me very happy. It does go a long way to explaining why Remi puts up with a layabout on staff who'd nap during working hours, that always did seem a bit odd to me. Besides, I think a grand scale story like this fits all three of them quite well.

I thought Meiling's naps in canon didn't at all interfere with her ability to guard the gate. She has an awareness over it with her ability to sense qi regardless of whether she's awake or asleep. Not to mention Remilia's kind of a spoiled whimsical brat who I can't really see caring about staff propriety; Sakuya's the one who basically runs everything and has a cordial working relationship with Meiling. As for Meiling and Remilia, the only dialogue I can think remember from them is them teasing each other and talking about trading manga in the fighting games.

I've always thought of the jobs in the mansion as closer to stuff Remilia randomly decided the people she cohabited would do if they had jobs; and doesn't really think too seriously about enforcing them. Literally the only reason she keeps fairy maids is because they make her mansion look like an official mansion. The fairy maids don't actually do anything and spend all their time playing around in maid costumes, Sakuya does everything.

Here's why this manga is so tolerable. Even though this latest chapter is about The Succubus teacher having the hots for our male protagonist, this fact is told entirely through the aspect of world building. Everything about this situation is dedicated to explaining how succubi work in this universe. This is super important because it explains a lot about the Succubus teacher in general. The fact that she's so powerful and that her powers work on touch, then it makes sense that she'd wear a full body track suit all the time. The detective says it's rare that a succubus as powerful as her doesn't cause trouble, and even her character design reinforces the fact that she's making an active effort not to do so (regardless of the fact that she probably doesn't even know how to start that kind of 'trouble').

This is why the light harem elements are tolerable. Every time we're faced with it, the author gives us so much more beyond just that. I expressed concern about this series becoming a slice of life nonsense romcom a while back, but the author has been staying on track for the most part. I'm impressed.

There's nothing wrong with harem elements. It's just that they usually overshadow every other aspect of most universes to appeal to the mass market. For me personally it's like reading off a drama tag or comedy tag.

I have great things to look forward to!

The pacing seemed awfully rushed at the last few chapters. Or maybe it's because i'm used to things being drawn out unnecessarily? Anyway, it's a bit rare for me to see something only moderately bittersweet.

Tbh, I honestly liked monster musume until the fanservice overshadowed all the social integration issues in the manga. It still has tidbits of that, but now it's obviously more about how much glistening boobage the artist can cram in a single chapter.
