if it weren't for the one-shot (where Takamine lit up like a christmas tree), id write this off as another 'best friend' manga. im currently 60 chapters in into another manwha that has pretty much same vibes as this but there is no indication of romance, just an insane amount of closeness and lots of blushing. if you're curious what manwha im referring to, it's Her Mountain, Her Ocean.

I am happy to report that the manhwa you're reading gets a stamp of approval from the Yuri gods. As someone who's read the novel, albeit through an unreliable probably MTL translation, the ending is definitely romantic and super sweet! Warning, don't read the last like 3 extras tho.

Went back reread the extras I was talking about, they were a lot better than I remembered, Basically it just randomly places the mcs in a death game post apocalypse world where they have to survive. Super random but it still has a sweet ending I must've gotten it mixed up with another story's extras. Apologies for the mix up!

I'm in the camp of it not being cheating. They weren't in a relationship in the first place. Maybe it's just me and my cohorts but exclusive relationship isn't exactly the default. Most people hooking up after meeting each other in a bar are just that... hooking up. Hells, I've had partners before who I've told explicitly upfront that I'm not looking for an exclusive relationship turn around and act like I led them on or betrayed them. Communication doesn't always make the difference. Sometimes feelings just happen even despite warnings. I remember feeling annoyed but I couldn't exactly discount what they were feeling either.

What strikes me the most here is that we don't really see Mao say I love you. We only hear about it from Hikaru, who assumed they were in an exclusive relationship. Did Mao really say it in that way or was "I like you" and similar sweet actions interpreted differently? She's absolutely smitten ever since the beginning. Then there's also "I totally wanted to get serious with her" which tells me they weren't serious at that point or hadn't explicitly made that distinction yet. Makes me wonder if I had said words to my previous partners that sounded innocent and friendly to me but felt like the beginnings of romance for them.

Bit of a jumbled ramble. Anyway, final thoughts is that Mao wasn't cheating but Hikaru is still valid for feeling hurt.

Reading the comment section is always as entertaining as the manga's drama.

I kind of get it, that people wants to defend the girl being cheated on, but Nanase is just a terrible girlfriend. First of all, she is the one who confessed. Which doesn't makes any sense, because she never makes time for her girlfriend, nor does she is showing much affection to her. Since the beginning, the fact that she is busy with her club is comprehensible, but she not only takes a lot of time for her club activities, but also spends tons of time with her club members, going out and celebrating. On top of that, she is also very close to her childhood friend and spends a lot of time with her. Yuni is just never on her mind.

None of the things above are problematic, but when you get yourself a girlfriend, and still doing all of the above, making no time for her, WHILE expecting your girlfriend to support you (like taking a round trip to Osaka which is super expensive, just to see your game, while not spending time with your gf outside of that)... This is just super selfish. Did she get a girlfriend just for emotional support when she needs it while not wanting to give anything in return? Because it does look like this to me. Just stay single if you can't chose between all of your priorities, there is nothing wrong with that...

Don't get me wrong, cheating is bad, and Yuni is a terrible girlfriend too. I will never justify cheating. But damn, Nanase is also an asshole, just not the same kind.
