Could you go complain about/praise Citrus in the Citrus thread? Believe it or not, quite a few manga exist that are not Citrus, and this is one of them.

The last panel has me rolling my eyes. Arts still good though. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Well, this started off with the game of "guess who the not-so mysterious transfer student is?" so I haven't been expecting staggeringly original story-telling (though I'd be happy to be proven wrong). Kinda assumed when the new nurse was mentioned that she'd have some sordid past with Mishio from her old school. And it seems many other readers felt the same way, judging by the comments here. But the characters are strong and the art is good, so who cares even if the plot is a tad predictable?

I don't like it either, but the relationship archetype is obvious.

I'd have to disagree. There are pretty major obvious differences in the characters themselves and in their dynamic. Even something like the characters from Miss Sunflower are a closer comparison. Or for that measure, My Ignorance of a World Yet Unknown.

Sometimes if you are so so break, you don't want anybody be near you, and if you hate yourself for being a lesbian, maybe kiss a girl and see how she freaking out it's what you want. Mishio even change her caracter at a cold one when she saw that Ena liked her laughting for what happened during the kiss xD and blushing when Ena told her to smile

Oh, I see. That makes sense. When Ena pulled away, Mishio seemed like she was expecting to be yelled at or called gross, since she was surprised that Ena just needed to get air, haha.

Was she lying about not remembering the incident? Or did she remember everything when Uta handed the phone to her... Everything seems so random right now but i'm still hooked, i need more!!! ;;

It did seem like she might be just pretending not to know, or hiding the truth from herself. What I figure is that, if she doesn't remember it yet, she'll certainly remember it very soon.

After reading Tonari no Robot, I keep expecting manga AIs to feel more alien, and I'm always disappointed that they act no different from human beings.

I mean it makes sense that she was a far more alien example of an android because she's an experimental AI that is meant to develop her own personality based on her inhuman perception of the world and not a robot programmed to behave as close to human as possible.

You're probably right. Despite her mentions of being an early model, this is clearly a finished product designed to imitate human personality. Still, you'd think in a world where such capable AI has existed for some time, more would be different than just "there are sexbots now". But this is a common problem in sci-fi, where the author wants some new technology for some very specific narrative purpose, and then fails to think through the large-scale implications.

It could be yuri, but it doesn't have to be. The text is somewhat ambiguous (when I read it, I assumed the girl's problem was that she had confessed to a friend or otherwise come out and was afraid of being bullied, but that's extrapolation).

If you look at extra-textual clues, then the fact that it was written by Ohsawa Yayoi and published in Yuri Hime, then that pretty strongly indicates that it's yuri. Or at least yuri enough for their standards.

In general, I don't think the extra-textual clues should be taken as definitive, since the work itself should stand on its own. But for purposes of tagging and categorization, maybe that's enough.

Liking Ena. Not liking Mishio; character feels cliché.

It's hard to get a read on Mishio. I think she's slightly more complex than others of her type - her coldness and cynicism is clearly a front, to hide her fear, and underneath that she seems to be something of a shy romantic type.

However, I still don't really get why she kissed Ena out of nowhere like that. Was she really so feverish as to act without thinking? Then why'd she seem perfectly lucid right afterwards? Was she just so smitten that she couldn't hold herself back? Or was she acting out some self-destruction impulse? I don't really have a good answer.

@schuyguy

I agree with you on the the stories you linked, but not on Kimi Koi Limit. Someone who's rejected your confession multiple times over several years, suddenly realizing not only that they're into girls, but also that they're in love with you, is so incredibly unlikely that I can only see it as contrived.

Okay, I can see where you're coming from there. I'm not sure if I agree or not, but that's a good point.

I don't really see Kimi Koi Limit as "rewarding" the main character. You don't need to ascribe moral judgments to events in a story - sometimes good things happen to bad people, or bad things happen to good people. That's consistent throughout many of Momono Moto's works. Look at this, this, this, this, and this. Either the protagonist, or her love interest (or both) does something really messed up, or even completely morally reprehensible, and yet they generally end up together.

Momono Moto generally presents love as a powerful, irresistible force. Sometimes it works out and the person you love loves you back. Sometimes it doesn't. It doesn't matter if you "deserve" it or not. And there's almost always some amount of suffering in getting closer to the one you love.

New story? The author have even finish Liberty yet... ._.

It's not new, it was released as a doujin one chapter at a time over the past 2 years, and recently published as a complete book.

Edit - this is what it says about the book on Momono Moto's website: "2015-2016年に発行した同人誌 夕凪マーブレット1~9を全て収録した完全版です。"A compilation of all 9 chapters of Yuunagi Marbled, a doujin work published in 2015 and 2016."
http://momonomoto.net/2017/06/29/

Not sure her why website says 2015-2016, while the book itself clearly says 2013/03/01. Perhaps she sold it at an event, and then later it actually got published?

Edit again - the sale announcement for the compilation volume was June 4th, 2017, but it seems that this was completed some time after the series itself was done.

Either way, the work has been done for a while, probably was completed before Liberty was even started.

We don't know for sure if they're having an affair but it's likely.

I said earlier that I've adjusted my expectations towards trashy melodramatic soap opera for this series, but if it turns out they're not having an affair, after all this build up, the looks on their faces, and the hints and everything, there better be a pretty good explanation.

Well, saw the amnesia coming a mile away. A bit too cliche to be honest.

I think it's trash, but in the author's defense, it's heavily implied that her Amnesia is mostly an act - she doesn't want to confront what happened, so she's acting as if she doesn't remember it.

I was not expecting that sudden anti-gym teacher rant. That kind of silliness makes her a lot cuter.

Pretty sure they're building up to a reason Liz is targeting her. Maybe they met in the past, or something like that.

I guess now that this story has come out as a gutter-tier garbage soap opera, I can stop expecting more and just enjoy it as such.

To be honest, I think it's incredibly unlikely that there'd be any significant or lasting character development even if this series ran for 100 chapters.

Drinking alone on the day of her funeral + she disappears before morning

I'm pretty sure "it was all a dream" is implied. Her spirit doesn't "visit" her except in maybe a metaphysical sense.

Ah, I see, I see. I am actually finding myself agreeing with you. But I think there was a slight misunderstanding here, lol, I was actually talking about the main character when I wrote "consideration or stupidity", and assumed your "selfishness" was also a take on her, rather than the dead girlfriend.

Oh, haha.... I see that now. I misread. I think you're right about that.

How so?

In the most charitable light, she unilaterally decided what was best for someone else, then enacted that decision through deception, without giving the other party a chance to respond. Also, if her goal was the long-term well-being of her girlfriend then she obviously failed miserably - the woman is clearly depressed, probably suicidal, and the highlight of her life is her dreams about a dead person. In fact, it was incredibly short-sighted even if we give her the benefit of the doubt and assume she had the best intentions - how the hell are you going to hide the truth from the woman once you're dead? Clearly they had mutual friends, the whole charade was bound to fall apart from the beginning.

Not exactly what I'd call "consideration". In fact, it's rather the opposite.

For whatever reason she didn't want her girlfriend to spend time with her while she was dying. That's a personal decision, and one that should be respected. But they way she went about it was downright cruel, as well as being very stupid.

I can not decide if it was the very pinnacle of consideration, or of stupidity.

I would call it selfishness.

Not a big fan of this one. Of the "she was dead all along!" stories I've read, this was the worst. It improved slightly on a second reading, with the "I'll go with you" line having some weight to it, but over all there's just not much there.

oh look at that hug!! And Ouka's expressions! do you think Ouka (secretly) likes Aoi?

Well, considering that our first introduction to them involves Ouka diving to the floor for a panty-shot when the wind rustles Aoi's skirt, there's clearly something there. But I don't think we could safely ascribe any romantic motivations to Ouka.
