The author has said before this is yuri, so pretty sure there is no problem we won't get a yuri ending. I'm excited for this. Feels like I haven't seen any mature yuri since KnM days. Sure, there were some VDM and Queen's Blade here and there, and then subtext shows and moe comedy shows.
But angsty yuri that deals with more realistic, every day life issues is very rare.

I wonder how they will animate it, since it's pretty echii in every chapter. Shows like this don't generally go well, so I hope they tone down these parts and focus on the angsty parts and the relationship development.

Less than 5% sounds awful either way, i mean i knew this wasn't going to have a yuri ending, but at least i was hoping for more than 5% chances of happening. I will watch the whole 1st season, but then stop and wait to see what kinda of ending KyoAni is going to give us. I would really hate if they end up giving us a het ending though.

That's totally my assumptions, it's nothing official so don't take it as anything remotely like that xD
But yeah, it's obvious they don't aim for anything canon. They just try to be open to a broader audience. I just think that if it ends with het, or has more scenes like that, it will backfire to them

@MacySan So no matter what this would turn into your average run of the mill het romance anime in the end if KyoAni doesn't diverge from the original source? That really, really sucks ╥﹏╥

Well, we can't say no matter what. I still think it's more possible of an open ending instead of het. Yuri ending is less than 5% of happening though.
I don't mind open ending, but not when there are a lot of het hints throughout the season though. And during last episodes, they are getting stronger.
There is still a big part in the novels that the anime hasn't touched yet. And that's because it's later in the novels. Its Shuichi giving Kumiko a hairpin and Asuka asking Kumiko is that was a gift from her boyfriend, with Kumiko answering yes.
Not sure how they will handle this scene in the anime in the future, but it surely will a deciding factor.

Because if you bait, you gotta deliver! don't play with the feelings of the fans, even if the anime is good enough without romance, is just dirty to trick people like that.

True. But if there wasn't any yuri hints at all, Hibike would be less popular and memorable imo. Which means less profit from it. As far as I can see from forums and discussions, this season seems to be less hyped compared to season 1. Just an observation.

Season 1 was pretty gay. There was only one mention of Reina liking Taki during the whole 12 episodes, and Kumiko was always bothered or completely indifferent towards Shuichi.
So far they seem to have followed the novels pretty close, changing some small details. There had been some scenes between Kumiko and Shuichi removed, but this could be because of time managing for episodes.

But in this episode, Kumiko seemed to even blush when she was grabbing Shuichi's shirt, which was the first time she showed something more than being idifferent towards him. Also Reina going super jealous over Taki again, is making S2 so far more het compared to season 1. Onnly good episode was episode 1. After that there is Taki and Reina everywhere. They could add Taki's past, but only focus on him instead of Reina liking him.

So I wonder if that's a sign of how things wil be in the end too.
It's a good story still, but oh well. I was bothered by last episode, admitelly. Well maybe I was wrong defending Hiike's bait n the first place.
Ultimetely I believe it's KyoAni's loss if they chose this path. Because a lot of people watch this for the yuri undertones. It's not like the "het romance" is strong enough to attract boy x girl shippers ebough to give them money anyway.

In Hibike, Shuichi got his second scene ever (with actual lines) and Reina cockblocked him so hard, it was wonderful

Just read the blog posts. I like it, you see the episode from the positive side here. I admit, I was a bit bothered by Shuichi's part this episode. Not that I mind he showed up, but Kumiko seemed not indifferent to him like she does usually. So kinda made me think if this means the het will finally start o.o

Sungji liked Sumin for different reasons than Seju did. Sungji wanted to do fun and happy stuff together, just like most people want from their first relationship and her age.
Seju is different. They represent the two sides of the spectrum in relationships. I guess maybe that's a metaphor too. And it shows that chosing a partner isn't always only about love, but also the path that someone wants t take with their lives. Something like how experiences and people alter or form someone's personality/character.
Because chosing between these two, Sumin's life will be completely different.

The story gets even more intense by each chapter. Also you go Seju and slap that a-hole. He's was well deserved it.

I don't understand, the panel where the short haired blonde says she will eventually get married, is that Kyouko thinking and fearing it will happen? Or has it actually happened? Did she use to date that girl back in highschool, and now meets her again as friends? The panels don't explain the story well, it's messy and confusing.

Kyouko being played like that is sad, but at the same time she also gives me a bad vibe. Like, piercing that girl's ear without her wanting to is crossing the line.

I like angst as genre, but when it's done right. To me, this story failed to make me care about the characters tbh, so I couldn't feel moved by reading it. Although what happens to the mc is indeed shitty, but she's doesn't seem to be an angel either.
I don't see how this is an issue of bisexuality. The married woman could be lesbian in the closet as well, but this doesn't have to do with sexuality anyway.

I like her nose, at least in Anon's screenshot.

Thinking about it, the Japanese use "unusual by anime standards" to indicate foreigners pretty often. Americans often get big nostrils, for instance. I think by anime terms, Annie has a "Continental European" nose. Maybe as a way to indicate she's not a local in terms of the show?

AOT's most characters are not actually Japanese. They are from various European countries. Because Titans destroyed the lands, and people from around the world gathered in the same area.
Annie looks German to me. Not sure of her actual ethnicity, but she is probably canonically not Japanese.

Btw, AOT has a side yuri couple, Krista and Ymir

Are they finally canon ? Oo

There weren't many scenes between them in S1, but it has been confirmed they are canon by the staff. Ymir also acts clingy and jealous towards Krista in AOT highschool anime (forgot the original name)

I really dont understand why certain people defend the queerbaiting in hibike, like guys this isnt the early 2000's anymore we should have higher standards but whatever.

Having higher standars won't make Japanese to produce more canon yuri, or shows that match someone's taste perfectly.
I don't care if it's queerbaiting. I like their relationship and the moments they have together.
Besides, there are a lot of straight, non canon couples, but fans have no problem shipping them. So why should it be different for yuri?

I HAVE A CONFESTION, I am generally a very serious person but, EVERY.SINGLE.FUCKING.TIME. I see Annie I lose my shit I cant watch or read anything with her in it without laughing my ass off so bad that I shat myself, HER FUCKING NOSE IS KILLING ME LITTERALLY, Fucking Hell I'm laughing RN just thinking about it. ANYWHO, I just wanted to talk to sumone bout this shit!!! XD XD XD

Your profile picture pretty much sums up your post lol.
I find her nose interesting. It doesn't make her prettier, but it matches her personality. It's something different than the perfect nose almost all anime girls have.
My favorite character is Sasha though. This show combines comedy with tragedy pretty well.

That's why I still doubt her choosing Sungji over Seju means that she loves Sungji more. Also, we don't know if she would be really successful in not seeing Seju again or not.

Yeah, I know. But personally I see Seju was bound to lose from the beggining. So this specific Sumin's move could also mean she likes Sungji more.

Sumin is not as mad with Sungji as she was with Seju for two reasons.
First, she was the one who cheated on Sungji, so she knows she doesn't have the right to be mad at her now. Second, they had a long history with Seju together, and she was still holding hurt feelings from her. So Seju allegendly sleeping with Nami brought back these hurtful feelings from their past too.

We don't know for sure who she loves more, but since Seju always seemed to be the third wheel between them, Sumin probably loves Sungji more. Also the fact that she had decided to finally move on and quit her job to be with Sungji and never see Seju again.
But personally I always liked Sumin x Seju more. They seem to have a deeper connection, and despite all the hardships they still stay close to each other. Of course, not in a healthy way. But I just like their chemistry better.
Sungji is sweet and all, but it feels like the typical yuri relationship they have here.

You can't call Hibike yuri but you can't call it het either imo. There has been a shit tone of het interaction from the novels between the female mc and her male childhood friend that has been completely erased in the anime. Her friend so far is almost non existent in the anime. This is not how romance works.
If I had to bet, I'd say open ending is the most possible regarding the romance.

It's always possible that she will end up with her childhood friend in the very end though. But personally I chose to only focus on the yuri parts (if someone can call them yuri anyway) and I don't care even if they end it in het. Because these parts are too nice to say they are not worth it because in the end nothing happens.
Fanfictions and fanarts will be more about the two girls anyway. We can't always have an anime exactly how we like. And in fictional characters, canon endings are not a guide or an absolute to follow.

But when more girls are getting romantic overtones to their relationships it's just a sign that none of it actually means anything,

So there can be only 2 genuine queer girls in a show? If it's more than two, then we go back to zero? It doesn't matter whether KyoAni does it because they find it cute. Their interactions are still pretty gay, and a few other additions don't change that. Also there were more subtle-subtext yuri in Season 1 too. Ribbons, Natsuki and the senpais. A lot of yuri shows (not that Hibike is, but the actual yuri ones) have more than 2 queer girls. But that doesn't make these characters fake gay.
Taki and Shuichi is the biggest obstacle here, not the side characters. I actually like Mizore x Nozomi.

a nothing/slice of life cannot be negatively impacted by change?...

People were specifically talking about the story turning into het because, supposedly KyoAni hates yuri. Even if this was true, there is not much of "actual" yuri they can change anyway. There are not even important male characters to give the girls a het love interest.

It's subtle yuri because this is not focused on sexuality, but in every day things. Characters just happen to be gay

KyoAni regularly makes massive changes to whatever they're adapting. Maid Dragon is far enough into their comfort zone that it's probably not going to be butchered, but I'll be very surprised if it's a straight adaptation

Mostly to series they actually own, so I think this one will be safe.

There isn't much they can change to be honest. From what I've read in the manga (which is not the whole thing) the yuri is very subtle. The dragon girl says she loves that woman, but not kiss or anything (not sure if it happens in later chapters though)
It's mostly a comedy that happens to have gay characters, instead of focusing on the sexuality. So if they really wanted to change it, the should completely change one of the main character's gender. Which is a very big change and impossible.
I think it's an exaggeration to say KoyAni hates yuri so much to go this far.

Just because someone says they are ready to face something serious, it doesn't mean they actually are. It's easier to say it without living it first. Her intentions were good. At least she was able to handle the whole Seju being Sumin's ex and still working together thing.
Now cheating is a whole new level of emotional torture. Knowing some details about Sumin's past (she still didn't know the full story/ies) doesn't mean she could predict the future and see the cheating coming.

What I wasn't expecting is how it was a bit inconsistent maybe for her character to go out with another girl right after being cheated. I just think they could show Sungji's "fall" in a different way than Sumin's. Going out with other girls, just seems a bit overused trope of this manhwa.
But well, maybe it's too early to say that though. They merely kissed and Sungji didn't even seem to like it that much.

It's funny because when it was airing, Sakura was the most hated character in the fandom.
It had good potential yuri-wise, but this show pretty much sums up the notion of "at the end of the day, het always win" type of logic. I can't explain it better.

She knew all along that they're not just friends, she knew that Seju was manipulative, she knew that Sumin's emotionally unhealthy, she knew that Sumin was trying to change for her, and she knew Sumin's feeling for her was real. I thought she was always emotionally ready to deal with all the messes Sumin would bring, but she didn't. Her expecting to recieve only good things not bad things from someone like Sumin is too much.

I don't think she knew to that extend what she was getting into. It's a different thing to hear from someone and another to live it on herself. Should she just give up on Sumin when Seju told her about their past?
I don't think she was expecting only good things to happen to her with Sumin. She was just hoping for the good, and probably didn't even thought about Sumin cheating.

Death Parade that has more adult characters and you can see the artstyle change.

Are you still talking about Kyoani?
You're not right?
You can see the"art style change" from what/who?

*Violet Evergarden. It's a more mature and complicated story than the typical highschool girl anime they do. So the artstyle also changed too.
It's not just the art, but the animation. Their scenes look pretty realistic and detailed.
It's personal preference. But I don't think if someone doesn't like the glossiness of an artstyle, it makes the art bad. Because this is a subjective.
