@Anon you sound like an optymist with pessimistic traits.

Personally I tend to overlook the good and focus on the cons of something. For instance, when I hear someone helping others, I assume that they're doing it for less than noble reasons.

@ChocolateCakeLover Nothing suspicious here, move along.

Well, it's team of OriginalGengar, ZuljinRaynor, Rina, Kyonne and our sleeper agent Blackkitty against Anon and Alvis. Check and mate.

YES! Finally reclaimed my lost cat!
Gotta say, losing a cat when you live surrounded by 3 empty plots full of vegetation and also near an abandoned building? Not easy to find

Yup, losing your cat while you live in a suburban area with lots of buildings nearby sucks.

@Anon99 I can relate surprisingly well to that link :P Life does that to you. As I've said it before, I'm pretty bad at looking at the bright side of life.

@OriginalGengar You got me to cover your back.

Day 527. After many days of fighting in a very destructive struggle against their ex-comrades, the Great Pets War of Dynasty is yet to be concluded. Pro-dog forces lead by General Alvis have suffered many casualities, as have those lead by his greatest mortal enemy, OriginalGengar. Only the very few spectators who did not pick a side in this conflict mourn over the lost peace of the cooperation, once upseperatable from the Dynasty Cafe, now thought of as a luxury that will never come back again. When asked both of factions' leaders about the future of the war, they commented on exterminating the other's preffered pet. Stay tuned for more news on Channel 11!

@ Everyone mentioning MOBAs on this page

I can relat, even though I never got into any MOBA game. Having spent around 300 hours in CS GO, the playerbase made me shudder every time I see the words 'Counter Strike". The fact that I live in Europe near Russia doesn't help.. I miss my old TF2 :<

@Anon By saying that being selfish is not a bad thing >.> After all, you're the only person on whom you can rely all the time. Plus, it makes you not care about others, which means being less annoyed by others. No expectations = no disappointment.
Galich the jaded cynic strikes again.

@Galich oh, it's a bittersweet story :) makes me wonder if coincidences really exist, as if he knew that there was a vacant place, where he would make someone happy with his presence. And he seems to have a peculiar and funny character^^ maybe you could share a picture? you know, some delice for the eyes xD

No sharing allowed.

Yup, made all of my family wonder about it as well. The old cat was dying of cancer for almost a year, that night his situation got suddenly worse. I suppose that this cat realized that he'd be needed. The kicker? I live in an apartment on the third floor - this little guy was waiting under our door, which means that he was targeting us specifically.

@Galich Personally. I'd rather have someone think I'm the crazy cat person than the crazy person who talks to themselves. Honestly I love both dogs and cats but there's more cats in my area than dogs. Mainly its because some irresponsible person left their cats when they moved and then they started to multiply and ripping into my trash.

Well, then I'm double the crazy. I swear, I'm not insane :<

I don't think that's the case... They've just kind of come to a lull. They've kind of made it hard for any newcomer to feel welcome after that happened

Also, IRC is that god awful empty chat room right? I went in there once and I swear I could hear my pixels echo. And that won't do. I need a platform where I can properly display my sheebs from my dank archives.

Well, I barely know anything about that thread, so I have no idea. Just saw that.. i'ts rather popular.

Same goes for IRC. Then again, timezones make matters much more difficult; Dynasty's users have very different timezones. To get any replies quickly, I need to post early in the morning or late at night, which is why most of why I've written most of my posts while drunk/borderline asleep.

@OriginalGengar To be honest, I'd say that talking about cats is more unhealthy. After all, when there's someone crazy in the media, they always have a cat or two.

On a side note, I feel like WDTFS fans - off topic is stealing posts and popularity from this thread. Let's not mention the fact that this thread is more recent

@Galich great, good job, Galich! almost perfect! hopefully it will suffice :) yes, waiting sucks, I have to wait for at least a week more
do you really have a maine coon? <3
we didn't really have many animes on the TV either.

Thanks! Well, with so many supportive people in this thread waiting is much less painful!

Yup! That's actually an interesting story. My family always had two cats, and the day my second cat got put down by the vet, the this maine coon came up to our doors. He's waited for 2 days at the entrance, since everyone thought that it was one of our neighbor's.
Maine coons are an interesting bread of cats. They're able to change the pitch of their voices to match their owner's. Needless to say, they use that ability all the time. Plus, they walk around the house all the time, patrolling for anything suspicious. Plus they hate being held in arms and love newcomers. It's kind of like a cat-dog hybrid.

@ChocolateCakeLover Will try to check those mods. I totally forgot about the extended timeline mod - it's filled the void that CK2 has left for me. Too bad that running 1930s with that modification eats my FPS like there's no tomorrow.

Heard that the game is mostly bound to the population stat, yes. It's quite similar with HOI4, but with like 5 different conscription laws plus ideas giving you more manpower, it's not all that much of an issue. And there's EU4, where you can have your 100 000 men army replanished in less than 15 years.

Irritating experiences? Every single time I declare a war upon Sweden. Oh, and when the Ottomans get that unholy alliance with Russia.

@Alvis There's the IRC, but AFAIK you cannot send files through it and my maine coon to prove that cats are better. Don't worry Gengar, I got you covered.

@Nezchan Well, the thing with Death Note is that once you ask a few people about it, you know what evgeryone's opinion is. I didn't even have to uncover those spoilers to know what's behind them.

Lucky people, I don't think we even had anime on the TV when I was a kid >.> No Tonami, the classics etc. The Only the American crappy cartoons and Soviet bloc leftovers. I honestly believe that the letter were actually much more amusing.

@ChocolateCakeLover EU4's my favourite as well. I'm still sceptical about most of patches after 1.13. CKII's just.. off. I was unable to get into Vicky, maybe because I've started with CKII.

I can see why so many people dislike the "spreadsheet simulator" parts of Paradox titles, it's really hard to get into them.

Well, how i play depands on the nation. While playing PLC/Spain etc. I tend to limit myself to make the game more interesting, but during my games with Moldavia/Ulm I tend to blob as much as much as possible. It always brings joy to my heart to see the Livonian Order owning most of Canada.

Nope, never really liked any of the mods of the type, usually sticking only to transparent borders and Arumba's shortcuts. How about ya?

@OriginalGengar I suppose. Same went with many other genres of music, people are just plain ignorant and affraid of stuff they don't understand.

I still believe that there's a global conspiracy connected with German rap scene tho :P

@ChocolateCakeLover Surprising how you've managed to get 1100 posts so quickly while writing with taking a few month breaks.

@Blackkitty Well, the topic is getting more and more popular :P Well, working as a freelancer makes you more money. Guess no one from my family's ever been good with money, me included. Being your own boss can be both a blessing and a curse tho.

Yup, got them already. Quite happy with the overall results, got 93 out of 100 points for the degrees I'm applying for.
Will see if that's sufficent or not. The wait is killing me!

Hate replying to week old posts but what hey >_> Of course no one's played the new HoI game, it's paradox, and paradox guarantees you two things: an excellent game, and six months of patches to make it :P

Regardless of how much they try delaying it :/

Well, at the very least I didn't have to wait through a few delays and then get an unfinished message that will be complete after many edits and DLCs. Don't worry, I'll still be feeling salty for at the very least 6 more months.

Judging by that message, I can see a fellow Paradox fan. I wish that their consumer practice would be much better. While I haven't tried Stellaris, every EU4 patch after 1.13 seems a bit redundant. It's still my favourite title from them.

I'm sure that the game will be amazing in a year or so, but now I just feel sour. Makes me wonder what the heck was I thinking pre-ordering a game from them. Oh well.

Honestly, never found Civ games to be as fun as Paradox titles. Not a popular opinion, I know.

What's your favourite Paradox title?

Well, if people are complaining that the author is not doing their favourite type of works, that means that they're pretty good at whatever they do.

Typical Mira. Porny, yet funny.

Many of Mira's PLOT stories are amongst my favorites, especially The Sea, You, and the Sun. She is hardly just a porn artist (although she is certainly a porn artist).

I can relate. While The Sea, You and the Sun had its problems, I really enjoyed the stuff. My favourite one is still Morishita and Arai's Romance.

Accepted your invite on Steam (was surprised to see Russia though).

Oh god, I totally forgot to not mind the information given on my Steam profile. Sorry about that.

Edit: So I just found out... It just doesn't stop.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TgkLlhlNS4g

Honestly, after many years spent on getting annoyed about crap on the Internet, I came to completely ignore it. It's not worth anyone's nerves. Doesn't change the fact it still annoys me a great deal.

I guess? It's kind of a hard question to answer because I don't really care for German Rap most of the time and because I live in Hamburg which is like, germany's rap capital.
I definitely know that the rap scene in germany is somewhat deep rooted, going back to like 1980 and that there are quite a few German rap artists that get into the charts from time to time. So I guess rap is bigger in Germany than it is in other countries? Don't really have anything to campare it's popularity to, though.

That's the exact thing. Every time I've asked one of your people about that, they've pretty much replied in the same word-to-word way. It's either a great international conspiracy to make the rest of the rap fans feel inadequate, or you just enjoy rap from other countries.

That's good to hear, haha. Rap often gets a bad reputation so I feel good about myself now.

I honestly don't get it why so many people bash it so much.

Yet another random question for you fellow citizens of Dynasty's Cafeville from the self proclaimed co-host Galich. What was the series that dragged you into anime/manga?

@Galich What languages do you translate? :D
Was it hard to become a translator?
(I wanted to translate Mandarin for a while but realized it wasn't for me.)

English to Polish and vice versa. I'm bilinguar, currently studying Russian and applying for a uni for a language focused degree (probably Chinese/Japanese/Swedish). Studied Latin for a while, but it's not really a language you learn to translate. Funnily enough, as a freelancer I have no state provided education to back my gasp of English, only ones from language schools and a diplomas from extra courses. That's the trick: I get less money but strictly speaking I don't need any special training or education. Then again, my father is a translator and my mother works at a translation agency. The most important course that I've finished was lead by a personal translator of Poland's ex-president. I was the only person out there who wasn't studying English language at a uni (was only 17 at the time), which made matters.. much harder.

@Blackkitty Yup, pretty much what I think. Great for making pocket money, horrible if you live off it - especially if you're freelancer, since your monthly balance will either be really in the red, or in the black, so you can rotate between having lots of money and having to cut expanses everywhere every other month. Plus, sitting in front of a PC for 8 hours or more per day is a real nightmare.

@Anon
Nothing too original here, but Phillip K Dick's short stories, while varying in quality a bit are really amazing. While not being a typical cyberpunk novel, but VALIS is really worth reading. Really shows the author's descend into madness from drugs abuse and schizophremia. Do Androids dream of electric sheep? is a classic, but trust me, it's much more meaningful than Bladerunner: I'd go to say as far as that the movie gutted what the book was actually about. If you reaaally like door stoppers, then you might want to look into Exegis. If you;re not a masochist, then A scanner Daily, Ubik and Minority Report are good choices imho.

A mandatory mention goes to William Gibson, not just for Neuromancer - the rest of his books are worth reading as well.

Yup, all of that is really mainstream, but sci-fi is the genre that tends to suffer the worst from inept writing abilites.
Switching a bit away from cyberpunk, if you want to be a hipster, read "We" by Yevgeny Zamyatin and then tell everyone that Aldous Huxley's plagiarized it by writing Brave New World. I also really liked Fahrenheit 451.

Moving completely away from science fiction, but it wouldn't be me without recommending Jo Nesbo. Scandinavians have produced some quality neo noir books, but Nesbo in my opinion does it much better than Stieg Larsson and Henning Mankell (both of them RIP). Actually, the second to last book that I've read was Shadow Games by a German author, Charlotte Link. A pretty decent read if you like the mysteries in a style similar to Agatha Christie, but I was personally unable to finish it due to extensive mentions of domestic abuse (one of those things that I absolutely cannot stand).

And moving yet again far away from sci-fi, Franz Kafka's works are amazing IMHO. Then again, since he was writing in German, you probably read a few stories/books of his at school. I've liked him so much that I went to Prague twice. I still keep a photo with me standing near his house. That city's really beautiful btw.

Not too sure about that "diversive human being" part :P I simply get bored really quick and switch hobbies every few years, reading's been the only one that is consistent. I have a very hard time finding topics with recently met people, took me a while to start using my chattiness as an advantage. Having mild ADHD does have its perks. Still, every time I get dragged into partying, the conversations look something like this:
http://imgur.com/EOIw4tQ

I can more than relate to that "phase" thing. I wasn't reading anything for almost 3 months, and now I'm starving for some literature. I'm yet to come back to my last year's average of 400 pages a day. Reading a few airport novels helps to get back to reading, at the very least for me.

Shifting topics a bit, got my final exams' results today. I'm really happy due to that. Out of 5 exams that actually matter I've managed to score above 90% from 4 of them. Counting how the applications to a uni work like, it's 93 outta 100 points for the degrees I want to get into. Out of sheer happiness, I've managed to clean up my drawer. Found around 5 lighters, 10 boxes of matches, 3 pairs of old glasses and 3 old inhalers. Sums me up pretty well.

@Galich, well it's a good thing I am a Slav then. :P As you said you aren't exactly sober right now so maybe you missed that but I was born in Poland, as were my parents. All of us in the exact same city, actually. I'm from Szczecin. All my grandparents moved to Szczecin for whatever reason after World War II, so both my parents were also born in Szczecin. We just left the country in 1993.

But yeah, if you are Polish, and living in the USA, Pułaski and Kościuszko are always like propped up on a pedestal. And they were really important in the US. You have stuff named "Pulaski" all over the place; streets, cities, and bridges. Kościuszko helped with West Point. They do get mentioned in US history books as well, but it's not all that much. In Polish school it was oh so much about both of them. Mainly Pułaski, and we even had a contest on Pułaski in the school. It was like a yearly thing of how good your Pułaski knowledge is.

And sure, you can send me a invite on Steam.

Well, I'm almost as good as new now (that is if your definition of "almost as good as new" is with a slight hangover and without enough sleep.

Actually, that was just a typical case of late night logic: someone has Polish parents -> they are born in Poland -> you've spent all but 3 years in Poland, therefore you're not a Slav. I have no idea where this train of thought came from, since it's a lot of rubbish. Sorry about that, I really should stop posting while being intoxicated.

I can see why your grandparents moved to Szczecin out of all places, especially after WWII.

Haha, we have the same thing with Kościuszko. My friend's managed to go to three consecutive schools, each and every named after him. Then again, I live in Krakow where he is regarded even better since he's mostly associated with the city. Every other street's named after him, as well as plenty of schools and public institutions. I remember seeing his marble bust from my highschool, looking at others with a piercing stare. In here it's Pułaski who is more obscure - I remember doing a course on history, and while Kościuszko was described very in-depth, there was nothing about Pułaski. Then again, Kościuszko is known for plenty of things he has done for Poland, while Pułaski.. is a bit controversial. Then again, his face is on a few Polish beers, so he is not THAT allien.

@SF Don't worry, I've never read a single chapter of Citrus and/or WDTFS.

Gosh, I have 2,5 hours before going to my school and getting the finals' results and I'm still tipsy. I need to get myself in a semi-functional state.

At bookstores we only have mainstream stuff like Madoka Magica, Death Note and that butler manga.

There are a few shops that sell comics and manga exclusively for lesser known titles or oldies like Cowboy Bebop. Got only one of those shops in my city.

Stuff like Citrus would be available only during anime conventions at the stalls. Manga never really took off in here, finding someone's read even stuff like Higurashi When They Cry is really really rare. The anime itself? Plenty of people have watched it. Personally, my heart breaks when I compare the cost of a good book to a single manga.

I usually stick to subs, unless I'm rewatching stuff like Ghost in the Shell. Also, I look at English translated works, since the Polish translations are usually translated from English ones.
Getting to tired to reply. Goodnight for tonight Dynasty.

@ZuljinRaynor Sure! I'd like to hear more, it's not often that I get to hear about Polish culture from a foreigner. I can see why your school was named after Kazimierz Pułaski - he was one of the participants of the American war of the independence - funnily enough he is not known all that well in here. I was actually attending a school named after another Pole fighting in that war - Tadeusz Kościuszko. But I won't get into history any further, since I don't want to bore everyone in this thread to death. It's really impressive that you've went on to improve Polish - I know it can be really difficult for non-Slavs.
Your story's reminded me of the time I was helping at an Altair for around 6 months. They kicked me off for ringing the church bell at the wrong time - after I've realized my mistake, I've to fix my mistake, but it just ended up in me slipping at the middle of a ceremony. I've never told this to my parents actually. Not missing a single thing about it - you'd be surprised at how common bullying is at churches, especially by the youth - now that I think about that, it was the breaking point of me cutting most of my ties with the church. The funny thing is that I was volunteering it out of sheer belief - both of my parents were at the time irreligious, my mother's converted a few years after that. I'll try not to talk about religion anymore, since I'm not exactly sober right now.
If you're interested, I can try to tell you something about daily life in here, although you probably know how things look like here.
I'm sorry if I said this before (I swear, I forget half of the posts I write), but as long as you don't mind it there might be a small invite coming to your Steam profile~

@Blackkitty Many thanks! That's a very hard job, I know that from personal experience - my father's trained me up a bit in translating and I'm making some money translating a few things here and there as well. Not an easy job by any means. As a child, I've really wanted to translate for a living - seeing how wearing down and stressful this job is, it's slowly became one of my greatest fears. Just out of sheer curiosity, do you translate text-to-text, or face-to-face? The second one is much more stressful, that I know for a fact.

@oliver Totally forgot about 3 years of kindergarden here, but they're not mandatory iirc.
Failed to get a 100% because I was barely able to understand that examiner - her English was awful (it wasn't my lack of lingual skills), so I had to keep asking her to repeat the questions. The kicker's the fact that every time I've asked her to do so, she'd pull another heavily mangled accent. Lucky you on the bullying side, I used to have quite a big problem with that. I'm wondering, what's the most popular foreign language in your country?

@Anon99 Well, I was spoiled the entire ending of the show, which kind of sucks. ADD is not bad itself, but it's the combination of ADD + borderline OCD + hyperactivity that makes life a bit harder. Then again, it could be much worse. I'm not complaining, it adds a nice twist to your life.
I could recommend a few books on the topic if ya want to, I'm a huge bookworm.

Oh gosh, I've totally missed those two links. I swear, I'm a total idiot at times. Both of those things.. well.. they remind me an awful lot of Polish village culture or the Slovakian one - all we're missing are those beautiful views. I remember seeing how traditional butter was made in the 16th century on the countryside - never again will I be able to look at it again. Also, the missing teeth made me remind myself of the Marathon Man - that movie made me scared of dentists for life. Okay, that and the story of Kuchisake-onna.

Well, only one video comes to my mind to compare it to is this:

@Galich
I don't think that Cambodia can be considered as a densely populated country. ;D
High school in my country is harder than college. You can't play around during your last high school year.Taking ten tests within two days and a half is not easy. Every year, there's around 30% of students who couldn't make it. There's no second exam, and as class attendance is mandatory, you repeat that one year if you fail. You don't need to pass every single one, all you need is to get at least 50% of total score. But the thing is that maths = 125 points, physics = 75, geology = 30, etc. However, there was a special case last year; our government allowed a second exam for the very first time in history because 75% of students failed as they couldn't adapt to a rushly updated educational system.

Well, that was a complete miss on my part then >.> I don't remember my reasoning behind that statement, perhaps I should stop posting here forever half asleep after taking my sleeping pills. Sorry about that. To make it up, I'm replying having just woken up from a nap, reversing that logic it should be making me sharper. Either that, or I'm hopeless.

Those stats are insane. Poland has a strict educational system, but from what I read just now.. I'm just flabbergasted. 70% of all students failed? I know that well educated citizens are mandatory in this date and age, but that's an overkill.

Our exams.. well, you need to pass all of them, but if you fail those, you can rewrite only one a few months later. Of course, this really decreases your chance of getting a decent uni..

We don't have any colleges in here, just primary school (6 years) -> secondary school (3 years -> high school 3 years -> 3 years for a bachelor's degree (completely useless on its own) -> additional 2 for a master's degree -> Finished the main course of studying -> PhD for the best/the richest students, the time it takes depands on the person.

All private schools excluding the unis are much better than state owned ones, provided that you have the money. Same goes with.. church connected schools. Both my primary and secondary schools were a playground for bullies, thankfully I've managed to get away to a very good highschool. As I said before, private unis are garbage.

Actually, you've scared me crapless. You see, last year's failure rate was 27%, and since then the government's enacted some pretty rushed update to the educational system.. And I'll be getting my results tomorrow.. I think you can see where I'm going with this. Then again, the only results you get instantly are from oral Polish and English, and I've done pretty decently on both of those (100% and 94% respectively), but those are utterly useless when applying for a uni. Plus that English oral was nonsense, I swear, my examinator spoke worse English than mine, pronouncing "studying abroad" as "study -ying a-brooch". Funnily enough, my friend who's lived in Australia for 3 years got less % than I did, so I might be onto something.

How do colleges look like in your country? Also, judging by your messages, you're studying abroad, right?

@Galich Thank you! now you know someone, who tries DELF for the second time xD
so, you want to study applied linguistics, or japanese studies, maybe? I agree with you on the languages you've chosen :)
when i was about your age, and there was a possibility to sit the CAE, the teachers advised us to try the Proficiency exam, because the difference in the level was insignifcant. But you have it hard, and you need the history for studying languages :( and IQ tests...

Applying papers for Chinese, Japanese, Swedish and history. Gonna select one from the list, depending on what I manage to get into (hardest to actually be selected/the most desired by me is Chinese, history's last). I was planning on studying applied linguistics, but it would have to be a combination of Russian and English, and I can take on both of those languages in my spare time (or at the very least I want to believe so). The degrees I'm taking are actual language studies from the very beginning with history and culture thrown into the mix, plus if I get to study Japanese/Chinese at the Uni I want to study at (there's only 2 in the entire country that have those degrees) I'll still have to choose a suplementary second eastern language: Korean, Japanese or Chinese, so I'll be getting a bit more thrown into the mix. I was also considering just flat out studying oriental cultures, but it's not really a very good degree. With that CAE, my chances of spending a year in Japan/China sponsored by the uni are better.

Well, the thing about that CAE exam is fact that I was prepared privately (by a tutor) for it, not by any school, which means I wasn't able to skip a single year. I need to thank my father for forcing me into this (he's a translator by trade), since my English is decent enough.

Not a huge fan of that movie. Ironically enough, I'm not even a huge fan of films/TV, last time I was watching a non-documentary film was when the 6th season of Dexter was recent. I cannot sit through a video/movie longer than 30 minutes, but I can read for more than 7 hours per day if I'm bored. Well, ain't ADD fun.

Recent synth stuff? That's a very loose term. Well, since I don't think that Giorgio Moroder's cameo on one of Daft Punk's songs counts and not counting old synth artists recording inferior albums Cough I'm looking at you New Order *Cough*Kavinsky comes to mind (the one that you've sent) plus Trevor Something. It's a bit on the darker end, so I'm not sure if you'll enjoy it.

Speaking of that, a few week's ago a new Visual Novel has been released by a developer team from Venezuela called VA-11 HALL-A. While it has a few issues here and there, the soundtrack was something I really loved about it. It has an 80s vibe to it; I'll just leave two links to it and run away.

Yet another wall of text here. I swear, I should just stop posting in this topic, but the discussion here is just too interesting. Huge thanks to everyone who has contributed to this thread.
