I guess ピーマン/piiman/green peppers in Japan are a little different than they are, say, in the US. I loves me some green peppers and mushrooms together, Touko doesn't know what she's missing.

I find it hilarious that my horrible Japanese reading skills could only pick up on a few words properly, but that I fully understood, immediately, when Yuu called Touko a dummy ("senpai no baka") and then chomped her neck. Somehow that made me enjoy an already enjoyable thing even more.

Well, I learned how to write from my grandmother, and people of her generation all tended to have pretty neat and elegant handwriting. Hers, my mother's, and my own all look very similar. I find it both sad and hilarious that most people I run into these days have difficulty reading it, let alone writing it.

I had a difficult time adjusting to "stroke order" when I was being diligent about learning to write basic Japanese, because I am old and I do not print--I use cursive, so I'm used to all my letters joining together with loops and whorls. My professor had to ask me to stop using it with my turned in assignments because she had difficulty with it and her TA couldn't read it at all, lol... and I have elegant cursive (if I do say so myself).

Hiragana and katakana were bad for me too because I have memory loss issues, lol. I still struggle with katakana sometimes (seriously, ツ and シ, and ン and ソ can bite my English-speaking hiney) and I only know a few handfuls of kanji. But yes you are right, kanji is the real beast, and as far as I can tell the only way to 'get gud' with kanji is to study study study and write write write.

Pall isn't gonna live thru this, methinks. She knows that's she's a big confusing grab bag of souls but somehow being involved with Aluna has changed her enough where I think she's ready to just go now. The fact that she's actively watching and even speaking to Rize now, asking about her true feelings, instead of trying to kill her is kinda telling. She's poking around to make sure Rize will stick around and take care Aluna, since, as Rize has finally started to see, Aluna is a hard shell with a soft gooey center who needs someone there with her.

Something else my instructor recommended is one of those apps that allows you to chit chat with someone who speaks the language you're trying to learn as their native language. I forget the name of the app that she recommended but when I had it at the time it was pretty popular, lots of Japanese folks are trying to learn English the same way so it's not hard to find someone else willing to give it a shot. Hearing the language in "every day" use instead of stiff and formal instruction books or never-a-good-source-anime is refreshing.

Im not okay, the girl who gave mimi used clothes her upper classmen (the one she was smooching on the staircase) most likely died in battle probably the one in chapter 5. Maybe they just parted after graduation? Ahh both thoughts are pretty sad :c

I believe the implication is that they were a couple--since like you said, they were smoochin' on the stairs, "healing" or not--and that the blonde girl of the pair died, yes. The girl giving things away is also presumably an upperclassman or she wouldn't be involved in the giving side of things, so perhaps they were roomshare buddies who ended up together too, like the main couple and the side couple we've seen so far.

My local community college offered Japanese classes, and I took the first one. I was able to get it covered by financial aid. Unfortunatley I was unable to progress to 2, 3, and 4 for stupid broken body reasons, but they are there for me to take whenever, financial aid and all. The instructor even leads a 2 week trip to Kyoto every summer for J-students.

Perhaps there's something like that available for you? If not, the "Genki" series of books seem to be the standard for those courses, so you can learn on your own. Flash cards help too.

Quite a long time if Mimi was conscripted back when the school wasn't even a school yet. Unfortunately I don't recall seeing anything to indicate the founding year for it to give us a better ballpark.

Well, she DID die for real, the first time. Something killed her, and her mother sacrificed herself to bring her back. Presumably she has all life functions intact and working or else she wouldn't bleed when injured. But the fact remains she was brought back from death, and has wicked strong magic powers in addition to her never-ending healing, so what does that make her? A sort of adorable lich?
