Another point I'll add is that a LOT of peoples fav yuri series wether they are men or women, are series with zero or very little nsfw content like girl friends etc- so its clearly NOT just about perving at lesbians for most yuri fans- they like the romance/relationships, character interactions aspects the most.

And I feel railing at guys who like yuri is kinda.. misdirecting the ire at people who would support gay people that I'd rather send to those who HATE yuri because they are homophobic.

Also- I assume you have just as much a problem with the mountains of fujoshi who love BL and far outnumber yuri fans?
And I guess gays and lesbians are not allowed to consume straight media either huh?
That seems like a good way to alienate people too. You'd rather guys hate it?

Personally I dont care who consumes WHAT as long as they are not causing problems somehow with how they go about it.

Yeah Yuri often seems to sell so much less than Yaoi does, so it's nice when people support it regardless of who they are.

I don't know if it's my fault, but to clarify some misunderstanding, I'm a lesbian who loves any type of yuri. And about the male friend, I meant there needs to be more of someone like Mophead and Cerik, the homies. The wingman to their female friend. I love yuri more than anything, but I love new story ideas the most. Because if the story has the usual tropes and whatnot, I would feel like I read them a thousands time already.

You're fine. Personally I think it's less about the usual tropes and clichés, and more about the quality of the writing, or even if it's just fun/entertaining. I would completely agree that uncommon or rare spins on the usual are often very enjoyable. I say this mainly because pretty much everything has been more or less written to an extent, and everything will have certain tropes and clichés. It's pretty much the nature of writing and the sharing of ideas, inspiration and so fourth. Most modern writing in some way, even indirectly, pulls from the likes of Shakespeare, and his massive influence over the writing world. Shakespeare himself wasn't even entirely original. Just some interesting food for thought in my opinion, sorry if I rambled a bit here.

It's nice to see some male friends in yuri mangas in a while, but.. it's only nice when it's an actual friend like the one from tamen di gushi, not this kind of disgusting and creepy man. I'm tired of yuri manga being consumed mostly by men and not sapphic women, it just shows how much men see us as objects for their fun. To the men in the replies: Sincerely, as a lesbian, I'm really tired of of you fetishizing us. Please rethink about what you're doing because it's gross, for god's sake!

I don't know why you felt the need to go this far over this innocent 4-page doujin, but I'll address it anyway.

At least for non-pornographic yuri, yuri historically has not been consumed by mostly men. A common misconception, but false nonetheless. Also, it's a plain fact that yuri manga is mostly written by women, and it's the creators who...well, create the content, not the consumers*.

Also, what was disgusting and creepy about this guy? He's just enjoying a mobile game with a friend, then someone else comes and tells him to back off because she likes that girl, and when he realizes that he just thinks it's cute. What, is he not allowed to be happy that a gyaru treats him like a peer and a human being? Is he supposed to be against a girl liking another girl? He's clearly a bit awkward, but since when is that a crime?

In closing: yes, fetishization of lesbians is a problem that exists. But at least direct your anger where it's actually worth having it.

*An inb4: There's an argument to be made that consumer demand will drive what content is created, and thus if sexy yuri is what sells it will be what is created, but there are issues with that here: 1, if that were the case, you'd likely be seeing more men drawing yuri manga than we have. 2, yuri isn't exactly such a thriving market that artists need to do this kind of thing in order to eat; they draw yuri because they want to.

Also well notably some of the sexy yuri are also made by women creators. There are women who enjoy sexy content, and women who don't. Just like there's men that are the same. I think the current Yuri market is honestly pretty even between sexy and wholesome content.

I also think sexy can be well written, and men can be involved. Sunstone is primarily a lesbian comic made by a man, and I at least believe it's generally well received by numerous demographics, largely because of it's character writing.

A need a single narrator text bubble at the bottom of the last page, "and a week later they started dating".

A simple "*She wasn't..." would also work :D

Haha true enough

I'm glad we're moving on from all of that. Also I'm looking forward to the next chapter, and seeing if her neighbors can properly sort out some of their history. It'd be interesting if this somehow, against all odds, turned into a big poly relationship.

exactly bad faith as i said. i did not say this manga was guilty of it yet, and I didn't go excusing other media, in fact i actually included two different kinds that also contribute, i didn't say anything about violence not contributing, i think it does (look at decades of propagandist cop serials and how people worship cops and wanted to kill/wished death on protestors last summer, there's so much bloodthirst out there and unquestioning loyalty to the military) . I know porn contributes to rape and incest and sex trafficking. Yeah the old boomers in congress and pals of Epstein know nothing about manga/anime, that doesn't discount the large majority that do, or else know of american/western media that treads the same water, be it books, films, TV shows, etc. (I responded to that bc thats a new one).

its just so goddamn obvious that fiction is not a vacuum. Hell, you read the harry potter books and suddenly rowlings terfism is the logical conclusion of the values espoused in the book, that you can never escape your station of birth.

JK Rowling is not an example of every author. I'm just going to leave this here and call it a day. I know a conversation between you and me will go nowhere, so have a good day/night. I wish you the best.

^lmao, I usually just hear people describe it as "she's wet". I'm honestly not sure if there's a better way to describe it, I've heard "pussy juice", " vaginal discharge", and similar, but those aren't exactly elegant either. Just when I think of mucus I think of a sickly person with a dripping nose and the like.

The "fiction doesn't affect reality" "debate" has been so poisoned by jack thompson satanic panic crap from the 80's and 90's. we know quite obviously fiction doesn't make you literally recreate whatever happens therein, but that doesn't mean there's 0 impact. If there was why the heck would anyone do literary analysis on anything (or for that matter write/make anything)?

The fiction people make is informed by their real experiences, biases, tastes, beliefs, etc. in which they present in some form, and the reader attempts to matches their own, to relate. Whether that's merely finding a subject entertaining, which is informed by those kinds of things, or aligning with those biases, tastes, beliefs etc. explicitly, it's still reflective of what is acceptable/agreeable etc., particularly if its meant to titillate or agitate (such as propaganda). When you sexualize minors in fiction (which hasn't happened in this manga, yet), or romanticize relationships between minors and adults, it is imparting a judgement, it is indulging if such judgement is "it's taboo". Just start asking why. Why does the author make it? (real world consequences?) Why do people read it? Why does it entertain? Why would someone want to read a chapter titled, "enjoying the scent of high school girls", a sentence that if said in public might have police sent your way by most people? Indulging in a "taboo" is disagreeing with how that thing is perceived by people and that can be as much as "just portraying it". I get it, high school is nostalgic for memories and first romances, immaturity can be funny, fucked up shit happens to kids, there's plenty of reasons to write about those kinds of things in regards to kids. They appeal to frustrated/sad/busy adults, and maybe can make things better for future kids, show how bad things are, or whatever purpose you ascribe. As soon as that delves into sexual stuff, those aims or designs are betrayed. An autobiography doesn't need to go into explicit narrative detail about teen sex, you'd be concerned for that person's health / be grossed out.

This story is pretty clearly dealing with late bloom sexual awakening of its protag via explicit sexual cues and how that affects your potential first relationships. For a minor to be introduced as a parallel, does not bode well. However, it seems she is more ingratiated because of Nakano's charm and the flirty atmosphere, which is a much safer route (i forget if she ever heard any of the main people or if she just had the complaint brought). It could be a "look what nakano missed out on coming to terms with her sexuality by not ever being around gay people at that age, how would she have been emotionally/personality wise?" deal. That tract can reasonably be entertained with no need to be sexual, depending on the person that can play such a small role in the way their attraction works, so why not play safe? why go there and invade, encroach on indulgence? If it's really such a hard idea to get, ask yourself if you'd want your own sexual awakening portrayed in a fictionalized film in explicit detail, done so by pure coincidence. It'd be embarrassing, disturbing, and extremely uncomfortable, even though it's a fictional character, to you and the audience. It's a topic better suited for subtlety. When this stuff happens in western media, like Big Mouth or Sex Education, it definitely gets more obvious when the actors, whose job it is to convince you they are a teenager or are actually teenagers down to every detail, play these things out. What is getting encouraged, what is being particularly enjoyed? Who is making it, who is it for?

Every little bit contributes to the very real and prevalent problem of pedophilia, and a lot of manga plays a role in enabling it.

I'll defer to this response if ever the issue comes up elsewhere. I'm tired of responding to the same bad faith, ignorant arguments.

Well maybe don't respond to me, and instead go solve real world problems that impact actual children, instead of taking manga with stylized art as a "serious problem". Yes you're tired of responding to people like me, but I'm also tired of responding to people like you, funny how that works.

Also don't forget all the real world violence that fictional media also enables. All the step-sibling incest the porn enables. All the...so on and so fourth. It's always the same old argument. Thousands of real world pedophiles that know nothing about manga get away with sexual abuse on a daily basis, but surely manga like this is a problem. It's impossible to ever take arguments like yours seriously, just as you don't take mine seriously.

I swear the whole "rap battle" where they express their feelings to each other is just one big confession, and I really need more fanart of these two/the series in general.

oh no oh no oh no author, im begging you, please dont make horny jokes with the middle schooler. Please do not

Considering her idea of conflict resolution is hide-and-seek, I’m going to guess Hikaru is going to be used for jokes about childhood crushes and general innocence (especially is regards to the horny antics of just about every other character here). I doubt she was introduced just for the author to make the exact same types of jokes every other character has already been making.

So this is basically a harem manga in disguise

At this point it’s about as disguised as a pine tree in a desert and I am here for it.

This. I think people are freaking out over this (notably fictional) younger girl crushing on her, and are making a big deal out of nothing.

i like this but, y does it feel like the author has no motivation n is being forced to bring chapters out maybe its just me

I don't understand how it feels like this at all. The author is constantly making short Yuri comics and art on Twitter. To me they're very clearly having fun with this series and everything they work on.

^Oh don't get me wrong I also want her to be amazing and meta, I love her a lot. I'm only saying that she's still entirely usable on various levels, even if she's not meta. I'm not saying "she shouldn't be meta" or anything like that. It would be nice if she was stronger, unfortunately I doubt they'll make her stronger, but I'm going to make do with what we've been given. I really wish AK had all around more meta welfare operators, but alas.

^Eh I wouldn't say "useless" more very niche. I'd level and use her mainly to have ship comps with her and Gavial for fun. Luckily a lot of Arknights content is pretty manageable with operators that aren't meta/high tier in gameplay.

That aside, I hope to see a bunch of art with these two, as I really love their ship.

Mash's hair is typically lavender I believe. Different artists drawing her might draw her hair more pink or more purple, artistic interpretation and all that, plus it also depends on the artist's style/shading/coloring as well. There's also a lot of official art of her that's drawn by numerous different artists, as they will often hire guest artists. Which is something I like, since we get to see a bunch of different artists making official Fate art. For example, Lam did some official art for New Years Mash .

It's wierd no one ever talked about how mc wears a turtle neck everywhere but it's probably obvious since she's suicidal and at some point she attempted to kill herself

It was actually mentioned a few pages back. It's to cover up the burn scars, which you can get a glimpse of here.

Ohh, thanks for posting this. I missed the previous comment with the information. That's really interesting!

Dark_Tzitzimine posted:

Aya going for the sexual approach from the get-go is precisely because Marika wanted to do compensated dating from the start and she is so prejudiced that she would rather be molested than act lovey-dovey with Aya.

Consent is a thing that seems to be happily ignored here.

Anyway, I can sympathize with neither Aya or Marika. One is very weak willed and the other is predatory. I know that it will eventually work out, because it's the premise of this LN/manga, but from the start it strikes me as toxic.

I feel like I get this perspective, but I also get the perspective of people saying the relationship is between a girl that's been in the closet since the start, and a girl that knows it and is using this to tease her. So this entire series is going to be back and fourth between people like yourself, who strongly think this relationship is horribly toxic, and people that think this relationship isn't as toxic as the other side thinks it is and just thinks this manga is a light hearted smutty rom-com. Neither side will budge, and both sides will just continue to argue because they think their perspective is the right one.

Personally I'm just sitting here in the middle.
