I guess I'm the only one who, despite being happy they ended up together, am disappointed with the supernatural element of it. It's like the mangaka wanted to write a more conventional story about a yuri couple, and then copped out, because... they didn't want the girl to be a divorcee? They didn't want the couple to be so old? I dunno...

I don't think the author wanted to write a "conventional" story at all, and I also don't think the super natural element is a cop out either. The entire narrative of the story feels to be based around a "what if", what if you could go back in time and save the person you love before their abusive marriage even happened? What if you had the courage on the day of the wedding to stop it? To run away with the person you love, and never have them be in the abusive marriage for even a second? What if there was supernatural force from a supposed god that could make this wish come true?

That's why the entire narrative feels intentional to me, and doesn't feel lazy or like a cop out in my eyes. We already have several stories dealing with divorce, people moving on from their marriages and getting together with a better partner later in life, embracing their true sexuality, and those can be great. I just think this author wanted to do something different here, and at least as far as I know, a narrative like this is more uncommon. Where someone gets one chance to go back in time to stop a marriage from ever happening.

We also have a good amount of characters in Yuri that regret not being able to confess to their crush before the crush got married to a man. So that's another reason why I strongly believe the author specifically wanted to use time travel from the start, and as a central part of the story. The idea of going back in time to stop a marriage and running away with your beloved is extremely cathartic for many people for numerous reasons.

I feel like the rape tag should typically be reserved something...less absurd? Maybe I'm wrong though.

Honestly I have no clue but chapter two especially just made me go "bbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbb" also what's with touko going "yui's first time is reserved for me!" or smth lmao as if they didn't get raped/sexually harassed by both the witch and the plant girls aklsdjflsd

Also mainly what I'm saying is that both the protags are also part of this constant sex driven rollercoaster, so it's hard to tell what rules and morals apply here. Some brief examples of this series, we have the main characters hold each other's crotches so they'll be "less exposed", one of them who boldly doesn't mind showing her lack of underwear...and it makes a dragon woman become her apprentice in the art of...masochism? Like the whole thing is just insane haha

Yeah it's a little unclear there? I think it might also be blood from virginity....but they did go out of their way to ask the dragon if she's on her period. Regardless the whole thing is so absurdly dumb that I'm not going to think super hard about it lol

That fits the description too, since "blood can only be taken once from pure girls" or something like that. Yeah, this one definitely has very strong and uncomfortable rapey vibes. Change artsyle to something less moe and it would be even more apparent. It must have been done as a kind of a spoof since it's basically rape/ntr/blackmail in a dumb setting. And I guess prostitution too since the witch sold them off for the nectar. Very uncomfortable.

Moe art style series can still be extremely fucked up and grimdark while maintaining the art style. Take for example, School-Live(Gakkougurashi), the Madoka franchise and the many other series it inspired, among other things. I think it's mostly about finding the right amount of absurdity so people don't take your hentai comedy, horror comedy, black humor, too seriously and just turn off their brains. Also tone and riding a thin line, where your entire thing would fall apart and be universally panned if you mess up the absurd tone and fall off that thin line into something more realistic and miserable. Take for example Tucker & Dale VS Evil, the movie is an absurdly gorey horror comedy. It was well received and deemed hilarious by many, but if the creators dropped the ball for even a second the entire thing would just be a fucked up miserable gore-fest, and the movie would fail entirely.

I also think being uncomfortable is entirely understandable. Weird nonsense comedies with fucked up themes and elements are something that people either don't take seriously at all, or people hate them for various reasons. There's often very little middle ground for them I find. I also get it because I can't finish the "Ash VS Evil-Dead" TV series, where a lot of people think it's absurd and hilarious, but it just doesn't click with me so instead of finding it hilarious and detaching from the fucked up elements a lot of the series makes me very uncomfortable.

I'm not sure what to feel about this. It's soft porn with an excuse for rape-ish interactions between young girls.

So it's basically Alice in Sexland, just with yuri? It's cute enough and has this silly comedy fantasy hentai charme where you have to switch your brain off with things like dubcon.

Yeah, this being the "turn your brain off" type of entertainment is the easiest way to convey what I was trying to say. The whole thing is just utterly nonsense of the highest degree, and that's pretty much the only way to do a porn comedy I think.

More than that, the director said he noticed a change in Sakuma's writing. There's a difference in the result between writing the best script you can and writing a script to show you can do something more. The first is a work of art; the second is a résumé. The first serves the audience; the second serves the author.

I think they just have similar designs, but there are a couple differences between the character designs. Plus since it's the same creator for both one-shots, their art style also gives a familiar feeling between both stories.

It also reminds me of the show "Death in Paradise", where the main detective had to wear a suit on this hot and very sunny island, and from what I remember the actor said it was awful. Things like that make me want a relaxed cool weather outfit for my doctor.

^Yeah, it's just a lot of fan-artists depict the doctor as male. Plus if we get an animated adaption and the doctor has a male voice, it might semi-cement the doctor as canonically male. Which is why I like it when we get two options, even if an adaption depicts the character as one option (male or female), the protag that's the opposite still exists in game and other content.

Plus personally I just want to play as a female character, get various outfits and so fourth. The doctor's coat gets to be a bit silly in some situations, such as the last event where we were in a tropical jungle haha
