Really hope to see a follow-up one shot.

Wondering if this is gonna end up as some kind of queer-platonic polycule between Asaki, Remu, and Remu's sister. If Remu and Meguru are exclusively into dolls & plushies respectively, then I don't really see any of these characters doing sex stuff with each other without dolls as a proxy.

I'm also kind of surprised to see some people sympathizing more with Miyagi since she's the more stubborn and "difficult" one imo, and I say this as someone who primarily relates to Miyagi's feelings too. I don't blame Sendai at all for feeling like she can't be direct with her feelings after Miyagi's first runaway attempt. You trigger someone like that once and it's so so hard to not feel like you have to walk on eggshells after that, cuz what if you can't fix it, or have things go back to the way they were? Sendai has more authentic friendships now but losing Miyagi would destroy her, this girl is the center of her universe.

Regardless, I think we can all agree on the way the author is now calling the WN on twitter: "面倒くさい女の子×面倒くさい女の子の共依存百合です". "A co-dependence Yuri of an annoying girl x an annoying girl".

That's so real of her LMAO. College arc really is their co-dependence arc. There was a point where I was worried it was gonna get super unhealthy but I'm kind of glad she's not taking it there cuz I think it would just turn things into an ugly trashfire and I'm too invested to be okay with things ending that way atp. And it's nice to see couples grow out of codependent dynamics instead of ending it in mutually assured destruction.

To be fair, I read the novel in Japanese, and the Japanese itself is quite convoluted. It's not something that someone would normally tell in Japanese as well. I have no idea how I would translate that in a none awkward way as the Japanese itself if awkward.

And she is not even saying that they are important to each other. 大事なものに住んでる人 would translate more to "the person that lives in a place that is important". In reference to Sendai saying that the apartment is an important place to her (because it's the place where Miyagi is).

The MTL is so awkward I can't even tell when something's supposed to be intentionally awkward. Lol. This translation makes a lot more sense to me though, ty.

I'm assuming it comes down to the little things, but apart from that, were there any major differences for certain events or perhaps misinterpretations/mistranslations?

A lot of it is just grammar/readability for me. There were so many points in the MTL where I had to stop and figure out who was saying what to whom because of all the pronoun errors and names getting switched around. There's so much that has to be inferred when the writing gets botched like that. I don't feel like I have to guess at character intentions and feelings so much because you translate things to actually read like real English.

In the MTL it's also really easy to tell when a phrase that doesn't have a 1-to-1 direct English meaning gets used. Like when Miyagi tells Sendai that they are no longer roommates but they are "living in something important." You can tell that it's an upgrade from roommates and that's it's basically "we're important to each other but it's not a committed relationship," but it's so awkward to read. I had to stop and stare at it for a while to make it make sense because an English-speaker would never use words that way to describe a relationship.

I had dropped this one for a bit cuz it felt like it was dragging but I picked a good time to check on it again I think. I would kill for half the rizz Mitsuki has.

A bit hamfisted in the execution but I love the premise. What's scarier than knowing the person you're supposed to trust the most can just revoke your personhood and agency on a personal whim at any moment? Peak horror. I think it would've been better if Marie had been a little more self-aware of the power gap in their relationship, but I'm willing to believe this "Romance Code" could override those kinds of thoughts to an extent.

I'm guessing based on the extra pages next volume will focus on Nanase x Yuki? As much as I love a good shitshow it would be nice to see something sweeter. I will need it if Fuuko is gonna take things in the direction I think it's going...

Nanase's profile at the end is kinda hilarious in how much it demonstrates she and Yuni are doomed. I mean c'mon favorite type is "a girl who's always smiling"? lol

Fr, her profile might as well have just said Yuki lol.

Why is this 10-year-old doujin of a series that hasn't had any new media in 6 years on the "Most Popular of Past 7 Days" list? It's not a BAD one, and Madokami knows I already read it within the week it came out, but still.

Site glitch? View botting? Or just one/a few really, really dedicated fans inflating the view count "au naturel"?

I've been wondering the same thing since it showed up and ended up clicking on it today out of sheer curiosity, so maybe that's what's keeping it on top. That and the racy cover art.

Glad to see this come back. It feels like we hardly ever get yuri that's so incredibly shoujo in its aesthetic and presentation.

Have a feeling MC is just gonna wind up accidentally seducing them all by way of being the only normal and rational group member.

Speaking of hangups from making their relationship defined, intimate and romantic in nature, I'm on ch 136 now and they don't seem anywhere near that point. Do they get there eventually or are they literally gonna bang without having a single honest conversation?

If they have a talk and start formally dating (or at least kissing and holding hands without it being a major event), about what chapter does that happen? How much longer do I need to hold out? Please help, they're killing me

I've read up to the paywall on Story Seedling's uploads and they're currently in a 'Roommates that Fuck' situation. They're essentially in a LTR and act like a married couple but because Miyagi cannot be normal about boundaries or intimacy ever it's moving at a snail's pace, although she has at least finally admitted they're more than roommates (not dating though! hahahahaahhh I hate it here). Sendai has worked out her own feelings and knows what she wants but she's terrified of communicating that directly because she knows it's going to freak out Miyagi and cause her to run away. So we're essentially just waiting around for Miyagi to get over herself and realize the obsession is mutual while Sendai tries to cope and find compromises.

I'm genuinely amazed the author has managed to drag it out this long. I did not think a Twilight-saga-length slow burn would be possible but here we are. They've fingerbanged at least 3-4 times and no one has said "I love you" yet lmao. The side characters are about to get a lot more involved though so I think that's going to help move things along.

Off topic, but I'm happy to see Shuukura pop the posting cherry of an 11 year old account.

TwT no one reads WN/LNs so I'm excited to see it get so much attention. This one occupied my brain for months so it's great to finally have an outlet. My friends aren't really into this stuff and I don't think I could sell them on ~300 chapters of MTL web novel even if they were.

I haven't really read anything of Arioto beyond what was adapted in the manga, but I think the only thing they really have in common is the power exchange dynamic they have going on. Even then though, those dynamics play out very differently. In Arioto, the exchange is mainly an excuse for Mari to explore homosexuality without feeling ashamed. In ShuuKura, the 5000yen makes their relationship transactional, which frees them from typical social inhibitions and gives them a space to be their authentic selves and cultivate a real connection with each other, something neither of them have really had before. Sure, Miyagi has Maika, but there's clearly boundaries in their friendship that don't exist with Sendai. Miyagi likes and trusts Maika, but you can tell she's never truly been emotionally vulnerable with her and doesn't want to be.

I'd also say Arioto is more interested in exploring things like queer identity and community, and learning to embrace that and overcome internalized homophobia. I have yet to see any character talk about their sexuality in ShuuKura, even internally to themselves, which I guess is pretty common for yuri. Most works seem to intentionally avoid putting LGBTQ identity labels on their characters. ShuuKura is exclusively focused on the relationship between Miyagi and Sendai and the personal hangups that prevent them from actualizing their relationship into something permanent and truly intimate.

I chewed through the whole web novel a couple of months ago and completely forgot they were adapting it to manga.

While it's definitely not bad so far I can see it'll definitely be a struggle to adapt a story that mainly consists of internal monologues without losing what really makes their relationship compelling. There is so much that goes on in the little details of their actions that can't effectively be translated visually.
The art style makes Sendai seem like she's a much bubblier person than she really is with Miyagi, so I'm wondering how they're going to portray her "people pleaser" persona later on when she's consciously masking and it's not being filtered through Miyagi's perception of her. If they even get that far I guess.
