It's interesting to have an MC who isn't cunning/street smart (at least she, her mom, and several other characters see her like that) be the one the husband explains himself to. Is her read on him correct? Is her read on any of them correct? All of these supposedly smarter people who seem to be acting completely irrationally being judged by this MC.

So far this is cute. I’m easily swayed by the less experienced 400 year old vampire angle. What We Do in the Shadows show had a Familiar x Naive Vampire thing. Yuri improves upon everything.

Not sure why there is harem talk with what we’ve seen thus far. She seems quite overwhelmed with one human. If she’s been cut off by the family (maybe implied with this being a recent need after 400 years) and needs to fend for herself the power imbalance might be fun with the human having the smarts.

The statue on the last page is of a real statue in Salem. If you’re a fan of the tv show Bewitched it might have been easier to recognize. Not likely meant to be known by a Japanese audience at first glance.

It's an official soundtrack for the manga you can get on vinyl or cd. Released in Japan, but also found imported in the US at Kinokuniya bookstores. Both versions come with the same booklet content. Considering they had to get license for each of them not a bad selection.

He didn’t go out of his way to apologize. He sulked and stayed away for days during her painful recovery and only sent an underling over to tell her she could still be a “concubine” at least (ew). By the time he got his pride to the point he could suck it up and make a real “visit” considerable time had passed. And instead of being curious how she recovered he immediately threw a tantrum and claimed it was a scheme against him. The scheme of him having to muster up even the slightest emotions for someone so lesser than him. He’s not a villain. He’s just the kind of banal evil that shouldn’t be in the position of power he is in.

Meanwhile the “villainess” is a human nerve ending when it comes to the burden of responsibility and feelings towards others.

Her backup is Instagram. She spent time this year backfilling so everything is on there. She also posts doodles to ig stories that expire so it’s good to follow if just for that.

Some things of note:

• She's working on the vol 1 physical release and doing like 1k signed and doodled pages. A few drawn live on stream. She says her hand can do the doodles without her brain at this point.
• Her next work will be with a Japanese editor it sounds like. She was really pleased to have Japanese readers on the stream.
• She was really thankful for international readers because she was writing a very specific Chinese lesbian story so it having a larger appeal was a happy surprise to her.
• She was a little down on herself because of the bad "data" and attributes it to her inexperience at storytelling, but this is her first long story it sounds like and while she's been giving it her all she wants to improve with her next one.
• Her English is really good even though she apologizes a lot.
• She explains the names of the MC's are meant to sound like Moon (the English sound of it) and read as Stars (the characters). So that's their couple name together and she wanted to make sure international fans knew.
• She'd love it if My Dear Lass got picked up in other countries.

She got sent to the countryside for being unwanted (a girl), had a look at what she thought she was missing when she sneaked out as a teen and saw her bio mom reconfirm how much they don’t value daughters. Now years later her brother (who got the bioparents’ blessing) is, in her mind, throwing that away and choosing her life (both the girl part and showing up to where she was exiled to Peachtown) for reasons beyond her comprehension.

It’s interesting how she overly embraced her life in Peachtown. Always leaning into her spot in the hierarchy. Holding on to everything so tightly. Working to the top of the local industry. Heck, she’s even allergic to peaches off the tree, right? But she’s devoted to peaches. She knows she’s adopted in, but dug in as far as she could like that irregular tree from the early chapters she stubbornly keeps alive. She is so bent on thriving despite everything. She works on outreach to attract “weird” youth to Peachtown too. It’s her pet project and she seems to have two success cases.

She got one visitor to stay at least for now with her outsider GF who isn’t aware of her history like the rest of the town…and also attracted a sibling who is forcing her to think about her most insecure feelings where she thought she was safest.

When you go back and reread the beginning after knowing more about her childhood her current internal conflicts and childishness makes a lot more sense imo. A lot of the dialog in current context reads very different.

It’s been a storyline since Kanna showed up way back. Not a new plot line. And Kanna has been projecting onto Aya this whole time. Joe and Kanna have been running parallel with Aya and Mitsuki like a cautionary tale of sorts for the MCs. It’s been blatant the whole time.

Joe's "mother" reference in his text to Kanna makes me wonder if we will ever get some explanation of what's the story about Mitsuki's parents.

Mitsuki making it big might draw her bio parents out if they are live. That happens sometimes. Either they want something from you or the press tracks them down.

While for us her missing parents has been something to wonder about for Mitsuki it hasn’t been a spoken part of her conflict outside of that time she was sick and nobody was home for her. She has had enough other drama in the meanwhile and looks to be fine with Joe as her parent. To me she has taken more emotional damage from being aware of why he and Kanna broke up from an early age. Perhaps contributing to how she feels that some things are beyond talking out. She hasn’t seen a happy ending for them.

Kanna left for the US to follow the dream she and Joe had together… without him. He chose Mitsuki who he wasn’t going to take to the US with him at that age. Then she waited until Mitsuki was about to come of age to see how he felt and perhaps convince Mitsuki to come to the US too. So he’d not have that last reason to stay. But she came right when Aya was becoming a big person in Mitsuki’s life. So she helped Aya and regularly reassured Joe that Mitsuki wasn’t alone because Aya was right beside her. Mitsuki would be fine if Joe left with her.

Only now Aya isn’t quite Mitsuki’s person, just a younger version of herself, and Joe is joking about Kanna being like a mom, a role she turned down before, and not what she came back for. She has in her heart what she wants with him, but can’t ask him for it.

She is super strong and apparently doesn’t have charm that works on people. Or she’d have it easier in life than she has. She might either be half or simply the variety witches is broader than the one we know for sure seen.

I am no longer ranked so high on the her “starlight” and fan list which hopefully means her domestic audience has woke up a bit.

For anyone wondering it’s not hard to set up an account or very expensive in USD to buy coins there. You can use coins to buy the raws. And if you buy the raws for a whole volume you get access to illustrations and the spicy extra scenes as well. You can also use coins to give tips/starlight that helps her in the rankings. She did a follow up comment on IG correcting the chapters/volumes oops. Reading it all together it sounds more like she needs active support on the app to help make the last two volumes more of a sure thing. Her editor’s warning was enough to get her to ask for support so still probably a serious worry.

I was reading the latest chapter on bilibili and at the end Tracy announced that vol 9 will be the last and that the story is shifting to wrap up mode.

Quoting myself from back in Feb. Since we are just starting Vol 8 now that would mean 2 volumes remaining is simply it being exactly on track. So I’m not sure what she really meant with her announcement if it is indeed volumes. As that was the same info going back to her Feb announcement. Maybe even more was lost in translation.

Hopefully it was just a mistake in her English post then. A call to support the last two volumes makes more sense than chapters too. Maybe she’ll correct that on IG once she sees the comments reacting to chapters.

Anyone know what this "paid data" thing is? Did a big carrier switch away from unlimited which means people are less willing to both pay for comics on their app and the data to read the comics on their phone. Higher readership ones might survive that, but maybe the app is trimming off all the others?

I'm going to go onto the app to see if more is said there, but looks like this has been killed off early after she had already been green lit to work towards a conclusion in a few volumes. Can't imagine pivoting to a two chapter ending will work out well. Sigh.

I’m happy sniper garbage doesn’t end up over here and there was a lot of complaints when it was going on and drama when it started. Eventually what happens is people who do care just block the snipers instead of complaining on every chapter, giving them attention, and getting half baked spoilers in the process.

I’m looking forward to more chapters when they come. Snipers do often take the energy out of a scanlation team trying to do it properly so I’m not that surprised if it takes a while now. And yes, there are those of us who do pay attention to who is scanlating it and care. It’s a small community of scanlators who focus on GL so if you’ve been around a minute you know who most are and want to support them.

People are of course free to cheer on snipers, and read whatever they can think they can tolerate to get their fix, but that’s MD culture that can stay over there. Not every place needs to have low standards and while MD will let anything be posted… Dynasty publishing sniper chapters and undercutting a regular contributor doesn’t make much sense.

You'll often see Chinese authors get around this issue by using "camera tricks" or visual metaphors for the kisses (or sex), like dripping flowers and such. "Addicted to Her," is full of that and does it really tastefully. I think "My Dear Lass," does the same but I don't remember.

My Dear Lass keeps the naughty stuff as a supporter benefit you get when you unlock the whole volume. It is accessible along side normal bonus illustrations that get unlocked, not put back inline with the chapters. In the chapters it gets the dreamy camera angle treatment which at least comes from her personal cinematic art style and not just out of the all-purpose bag of censoring tricks.

As long you can tell something happened. Nothing worse than thinking some metaphor meant they kissed and a dozen chapters later it becomes clear they didn’t.
