I don't really see an issue with their relationship, but I guess that's just me

We don't know anything about her personality since Youko didn't get any focus yet. All they changed is the relationship they have, but for all we know, everything else is the same. Even her looks are the same except for the glasses.

It's pretty disenguenous, you can't really be the same person with totally differents experiences. Their relation was a large part of their characters.

I kinda liked the original version better, going with killing off her childhood friend feels kinda random in comparaison.

Isn't sacrificing soul to banish your classmates to the netherworld a bit too much for high school bulies ?

Being evil (at this point, it's outright, stupidly evil) doesn't prevent you from having a brain, does they really think their action will have no consequences ?

In chapter 2, it clearly say that Tsugumi called Midori her best friend and that she was often mentionned when she was telling story of middle school, and she also was one of the few contacts in Tsugumi address book.

It's perfectly normal for Haru to think that Midori & Tsugumi were really close, even if Midori doesn't seem to feel like she was.
