Never bathe a cat unless instructed by vets. Excrement depends on the cats diet, dry food = you will have a bad time; wet and raw, I find them okay, scope it once every other day (prefer everyday), you should be fine. Male cat's pee pee and poo poo are worse than female's in general.

In return, you get a fluffy fur ball on your lap every night asking for a face and belly rub. An organic alarm clock. And a god to worship.

I mentioned all those db/format gibberish because researchers rarely have the luxury of clean, single source data, and Excel falls short when the data source is not perfect. When talking to Norah, I was under the assumption that we were discussing external data sources and mid (2GB+) to large size dataset. 19 rows, you can do whatever. Lol. 10K rows and growing, I would not use Excel. It is a personal choice. You do you.

Excel is a nice toy when you have nicely formatted clean data that you can load into memory.
Before I can do any analysis, I have to obtain the data. They are usually from multiple sources: mongodb, postgres, flat files, web. Excel is shit when it comes to external integrations.
After I get my hand on them, I have to scrub them. Transforming ~5GB (sample) of data in Excel is a nightmare, that is if you can load them.
Finally, time to analyze, let's plot for 1 year... oh wait, I can't even load 1 week of data.

Edit: oh, I forgot about collaboration. Often time, there are two other poor souls who want to look at and work on the same shit. Have fun sharing.

I was imagining data scientists in a corporate setting in which they assess risk, forecast future and build model to help the company maximize gain. Then it is in their and the company's best interest to be as unbiased as possible. You are probably thinking about data scientists that are sponsored by corporation to do social research. Yea, those kind of research can be sketchy.

SPSS is much much easier than any other statistical package I had to deal with.. even more user friendly than the fancy Stata.
