At least Touhou is not as bad as Pokémon is. The temporal inconsistencies of the amount Ash has done, even though he regularly meets or travels with other 10 year old who just started out and done nothing. It is mind boggling.

Touhou has actually been pretty consistent on how much time has passed. Bohemian Archive in Japanese Red and Symposium of Post-mysticism have dated News Paper Articles and Alternative Facts in Eastern Utopia speaks about current events. There are 2 very interesting dates. A 2003 article about Remilia describes the Scarlet Mist incident as recent, the game EoSD was released in 2002. Alternative Facts in Eastern Utopia does not give dates but speaks about the recent Lunar Invasion (LoLK 2015) and mentions of the recent election of Trump (2016).

This and many, many other articles show that Gensokyo is moving on the same basic timescale as the real world. We don't know the main characters age for certain but that means that if Reimu and Marisa were at their youngest 14-16 during EoSD, they would be 28-30 right now. I don't think their canon appearance is too for off how they would look. Sanae was a Highschooler when she arrived in Gensokyo around 2007. So 15-16, that puts her around 25-26. Heida no Akyuu we can get the closest to locking down a canon age, an article from Perfect Memento in Strict Sense gives her birth as August, 1994, so she is roughly 23. Akyuu we see age visibly, her early appearances are as a child to her current young adult appearance in Forbidden Scrollery.

Despite that, you might say they look a little young for their age, but that does have some in universe explanation. Gensokyo humans are described by Akyuu as being a step above outsiders physically on average for instance. The main human characters are all East Asian, they tend to look younger for a bit longer (not trying to be controversial). Also their pre-modern protein lite diets should make them I believe about 6" shorter on average than outsiders.

The big problem is the art, ZUN is a terrible artist himself and draws low detail characters for the main series shooters. The official fighting games and different books / manga are done by a diverse group of artist with different styles that ZUN contracts too. That means it is hard to stay consistent on small details. I guess we'll see how ZUN take age into account, time has been passing and there has been signs of aging but with the main human cast entering over the next 10 years of Touhou.

Yes. Ucchi (Emoji face) has gone full on creepy lesbo stalker, Yuri is suddenly being more than a bit possessive and Nemo seems to have taken a sudden interest in being close friends oblivious to the minefield she is walking into. Tomoko's friend cup runnith over in the worst way.

Best of all, Tomoko is completely oblivious to everything, especially Emoji face and her blatant stalking but she is sure Yuri's best friend Mako is constantly hitting on her(she isn't at all) and thinks she is a lesbo. Also remember the touching hug with Imae (school president) in the mascot suit, that comes back again.

The cringe has been dialed back (for Tomoko at least) and Tomoko is actually improving a lot, it's a little touching... she's still an ass of course.

This book takes place after Impossible Spell Card. Basically in Double Dealing Character the trickster Amanojaku Seija Kijan gifts an inchling from the underground Shinmyonmaru Sukuna a magic hammer called the Miracle Mallet. The Mallet was an Oni tool that famous inchling hero stole after slaying the Oni. Seija tells Shinmyonmaru a bunch of lies about how the inchlings were forced underground to get her to begin a revolution with her using the power of the Mallet.

The Mallets power runs wild over Gensokyo turning tools into Tsukomogami and driving Youkai to violence until it is stopped by the heroes. Shinmyonmaru repents, Seija does not, makes a copy of the Mallet and steals some of it's power starting Impossible Spell Card where she is hunted down as a fugitive but escapes.

This story takes place after that, Seija has given up and now lives with Shinmyonmaru but is struggling with her nature as an Amanojaku which pushes her towards evil acts. This is where the story gets a little strange, Seija's power is to reverse things and the story reverses halfway through. She is accused of being a killer in the first story and is sealed and falsely accused in the second and takes revenge on the killer.

The reversal part seems a bit confusing, Levander and I (DB Scans) came up with 3 theories as to what is going on.

1. These are just 2 separate stories.
2. They take place one after another.
3. Seija is guilty but unconsciously uses her power to reverse reality making herself good.

The missing text on page 29, Kokoro comments that what Miko is saying sounds important and Futo tells her it's Miko's famous teachings.

It seems the version that went up was one that was between proof reads, I uploaded the corrected version here, sorry for the mistake.

I can see the confusion since it seems like this comes out of left field with no context but it has historical connotations.

At the close of WW2 whilst Japan was being bombed round the clock with invasion looming, young students including girls were being organized into a sort of last ditch defense force. Many weren't even given rifles and were expected to throw primitive hand bombs made of gunpowder in a pottery shell ignited with a match and wick or even wield bamboo spears. It was a truly hopeless situation that thankfully never progressed to inevitable slaughter thanks to Japan finally surrendering.

I would guess that this comic is an homage to that in a modern setting.

It's B - RYYYY in the untranslated book, whether it is supposed to be like that or the author made a mistake I do not know but I decided not to mess with it.

If anyone is confused a kodoku is a spell where in you put a bunch of poisonous insects in a jar and they fight until you have the most powerful one. That insects power grows then goes and kills your enemy. As to the reason he tried to kill her, maybe he wanted to harvest her new super poison or maybe he grew scared of her growing power, anyway he is probably dead.

So why is Yamame so small? You can probably assume she is still a tiny spider and she only looks human to us for our convenience. I'm guessing this is her origin as the winners of Kodoku become Youkai and she'll grow and take human form later.
