That was very sweet!

@BoskyHoss Not just translator speed- that assumes they picked it up when it started publishing!
What about like a 50 chapter manga that nobody picked up before? It could be all complete and out in japan before the scanlators even get chapter 1 up for us.

Or if a series was even 2 or 3 tanks ahead when picked up by the scanlators, if its released fairly frequently, they just might not be able to catch up for ages, or at all.

This manga is never gonna go beyond this level of teasing is it?

@ 856600 Characters dont have to talk sterile just because they dont have an accent. the vast majoirty of characteres in writing (manga or otherwise) dont have accents.

If you think about it, ALL people talk with an accent- yet we dont try to subtley alter spelling to portray this- so its clear we dont have to do it. But im not saying it SHOULDNT be done- especially if a character is meant to have a notably different accent to those around them. But it shouldnt be taken too far as to slow down reading and comprehension and pull the reader out of their immersion.

Also, as a none american seeing the american accent where I know it is artifical and not actualy soundling like the accent being emulated, it really sticks out- the same for scotish too. What accent was the character meant to have in this story? Is it kansai? Its just there are certain sounds and emphasis that can convey that too, right? If you know the accent.

Im sure its hard to do any accent translation well- and it is done pretty well in this story but as I said, i still have mixed feelings about it

p.s Space cadet is 100% of american origin and usage. ive only ever seen it used in american media and never in real life - at least in the UK. There are a few other american terms used too. They stand out more to none americans.

Im never sure how i feel about trying to represent accents - usually with an american one.. It sometimes works but often seems very wierd. I also dont like the use of americanisms like a cup o joe or space cadet- I mean this is set in japan- it makes it TOO american and works at odds with its setting. At least In my opinion.

I know thats somewhat subjective, but i profer translations that aren't quite so loose.

That said I really liked the story and setting and characters.

the 3rd kanji, by itself is read as “man”
so it’s understandable ppl would read her name as MANKO instead of MAKO
which is why she started using katakana to write her own name instead of the kanji

https://i.imgur.com/2KAu888.png

Cool- thanks for that :) So when she said her name was written in katakana I was assuming that is how it was written on her family register by her parents but its NOT- she has taken to writing it that way herself to try to stop the comparison and misunderstandings and teasings. Its a nice little extra detail to the story.

@Faune Actually I think this is the only time I can recall the annoying 'I would date you if i was a boy' being answered with 'even if your not a boy its fine' !

@ Goggled Anon @Kokolie Thanks for the info- I didnt know the O was optional- I just tried it in google translate and it doesnt know the word without the o so im guessing its slang?

Er, so why was she teased and why did she have to tell the teacher how to say her first name? Am i misunderstanding something? Her first name is Mako right- written in katakana - マコ ? That is incredibly straight forward to read even for children. And pussy is omanko from what i remember - オマンコ.

They are calling her that even tho only half the characters are the same and are not even together? It doesnt sound that similar either?

Anyways I liked it tho it was a bit abrupt and a little odd.

Night one complete, lets see how the next 6(?) days go

Score:

Koguma: 2 Hino: 0

No way they are gonna draw 6 chapters of the same thing over and over- we probably already have multiple days represented here in the study montages. It will probably end in a chapter or 2, having just seen a snippet and highlights of the week. Not that i'd mind being totally wrong lol.

i wish author made the girl's age much older

Well, others dont :) And most importantly, since they have other age gap stuff, I guess the author themselves is into it- so they are gonna do a lot of it.

I think for manga, to be able to draw so much for so long you really need to be into your work- hence we see mangaka with certain interests largely stick to them. They primarily choose a setting and characters they personally want to draw before what they think readers want.

At least many mangaka seem to.

Does it hurt?! WTF?! Did she think she was using a pumice stone instead of a sponge? =p

I am deeply grateful for these translations, but I would love to also have the SFX translated--is that Hino flinching or jumping when Koguma first touches her back?

(I know SFX are a lot of redrawing work--maybe in side margin notes or endnotes?)

Another option is putting a tiny english sfx next to the japanese ones - a lot less effort! (but i cant blame translators for skipping them).

If you mean the very first sfx she makes on page 3, that is bikuu - used for shock, flinch, suprised jolt, shudder etc- followed by some classic doki doki's in several panels.

Honestly, seeing (again) just how tiny Koguma looks in her swimsuit I do get why she's self-conscious about her body, but Hino obviously doesn't mind. She'll tell her that in no uncertain terms eventually, I'm sure. Her line "[...]I'm not disappointed or anything[...]" could already be seen as a throwback to Koguma's remark last chapter, but I don't think that's what Hino was trying to get at here.

She IS super tiny- Koguma is only 4ft 7inch :)

And while she obviously likes Hino's reassurances she has already had multiple that she likes her body and it doesn't seem to have made much headway against her core belief :( I think it will take them becoming a couple and lots of words and actions from Hino till she really belives it herself.

p.s That blush and 'i'll show you my body one day' and how Hino is all what does that mean? and why am i thinking this stuff really makes it clear to me Hino is mostly clueless- but that I think Koguma is NOT- I think she is aware they might become a couple, or is hoping they will?

Wow- that chapter was structured very different to normal for this manga. Also- a bath together :) I wonder if they will?

Does Hino really say her 'parents' on p4? Maybe she was lying?- didnt seem it tho which is wierd given the past hints.. if she turns out to have them then im not sure what all that was about?

p.s thanks for getting these out so fast :) Are we caught up now?

^She does have some sweet moments which makes it a shame she is also a stalker! Ive certainly seem much worse stalkers- at least she can kinda call her a friend.

^I dont get it either because besides the cosplay fetish miyako is pretty innocent- she only very recently even realised she liked Hana and has never done anything- and i doubt she would either- shes too shy.

And sure Hana is mostly focused on sweets given her age lol- but its clear she has grown to like Myako too (not romantically- i just mean she likes her inspite of the cosplay.) so i see no issue if they wait till hana is 16.

That is fantastic art! But what is the white square area on the floor? Also- is the shrine totally overgrown? Or is this off to the side of the path or something? We look pretty straight on to the toori.

edit ok I studied it for a few minutes to make sense of it- a lot of the ground around Reimu is WATER! reflecting stuff- she is stood on a little island in a swampy like area. I totally couldnt see it for some reason at first.

^well probably in reality- tho in tons of anime and manga there isnt- so who knows? And even if so, is it someone who cares?

@ Kojiro481 Yup but we see it a lot in japanese manga so maybe it works different over there and if you keep passing the tests then they dont say much? And as for calling in parents- remember all the hints - there might not be anyone to call in for Hino.

Tho if thats the case and the teachers know they would be even bigger assholes for not supporting her more imo.

^^TBH you 2, I kinda thought Kogu was more honest with herself and consious of liking Hino san in a romantic sense than Hino was! Hino might be the one instigating the lewd stuff but it seemed she rarely ever looked at why she was doing it, whereas i remember several times it seemed Kogu knew what she was feeling.

She just seems to have a hard time saying it or even thinking about it- but i think she knows subconsiously at least- whereas i dont think Hino does. Things like not wanting to hold hands in public isnt because she only thinks they are friends, its just her embaressement- she is quite shy whereas Hino is fairly shameless.

^ Thanks :)

I forgot it would be written vertically on tanzaku, and there's no point trying to figure it out from the english typesetting.

There must be stuff above that though- the strips are quite long, but about all I can determin is she hopes for something with hana.

Does that wish have a word chopped off like maybe 'always'?

Or was 'may i be with hana' the whole wish- and if so, is that a vaugely worded way to say 'become a couple'?

Does this mean we are moving into the end game? It's at least a new phase of stuff happening beyond the normal stand alone tease chapter, and it might lead to more progress! :) Im quite suprised Hino was so affected by her groping after all her teasings.

I know these finals are not final finals just for going on to the next year. Does anyone remember if its said if they are in their first year or the second year?

p.s Im pretty sure Kogu doesn't have prurient reasons to invite Hino over, unfortunetly!
