Apparently, it's mega-popular, both as the anime and the gacha game. At this point, all-girls cast + random activity + ambiguous gayness + gacha game adaptation seems to be a recipe for success. Though I suppose it's still better than all the isekai that's coming out.

Kawayabug's Patchy is basically IOSYS' Alice, but with even worse social skills, and I love it.

Edelgard: You have invested more in that videogame than you ever have in this relationship.
Byleth: Hey, I didn't say anything when you spent three months on end maining me in Smash netplay.
Together: It's so difficult being famous.

How did they get the baby?
1: Magic
2: Yukari was fooling around again
3: Eirin's shady new drug
4: It's a Moriya shrine conspiracy.
Regardless, the idea of all of Gensokyo helping them raise the kid is very heartwarming.

Ah, so this is where all the Zombie Reimu memes lead to.

Plainy is just that one janitor in horror movies that doesn't stick out, but has seen all manner of shit, while Gyaru is the perky blonde who'd be the first to get killed. Thankfully, yuri triumphs over horror.

The Mom with her hair down reminds me of Sadako from The Ring, and now I'm just imagining her crawling out of various T.V. screens to tell lesbians across the world that they're valid.

Be hilarious if the wrapping was actually plastic and she just tongued through it with sheer thirst and lied her way out of it later.

The real reason they hated Satou was because she spontaneously made lilies sprout everywhere and triggered a wave of pollen allergies.

There's something very poetic about the idea of Maribel falling in love with Renko, becoming Yukari, founding Gensokyo, and then finding new happiness with Reimu. It's like she was inspired to believe in dreams and fantasy by Renko, created a world where they could thrive, and came to cherish the girl who'd defend the paradise they once strove to reach.

Another excellent YukaRei story. I love how the ship brings out the unconventional in both of them, and how it simultaneously feels incredibly right and just a little bit mysterious. There's no better combo than Violet and Red.

Read through this again, and I'm blown away by how evocative it feels. We definitely need more yuri stories that include unconventional dynamics and scenarios. On a related note, wise-yet-goofy old women are an excellent character archetype, so it's great to see some rep.

Interesting story. There's something wonderfully bittersweet and maudlin about a lot of older yuri stories, and though it gets depressing in large doses, they can still provide a welcome change of pace from the standard moe fluff.

Ethical considerations aside, Kuzushiro did a pretty good job with making this story feel equal parts seductive and decadent. A lot of stories revolving around infidelity have characters making stupid decisions, or being cartoonishly naïve or evil. Here, it feels like every character behaved in realistic ways, even if they weren't pleased with the overall situation. The tug-of-war between ideals and desires is wonderfully covered, and there's a certain amoral bitterness to the tale that keeps it from sliding too far into either smutty or depressing territory. Kuzushiro masterfully uses differing perspectives to make readers question their ideas of what an enjoyable relationship ought to be, and simply lets her characters breathe and be nuanced without preaching about what's right or wrong. It's down-to-earth enough to be almost uncomfortably realistic, but also dramatic enough to keep you turning the pages. It just goes to show how good writers can take messy topics about toxic behavior and still weave them into intriguing, darkly-enthralling narratives.

Sinori's appearance reminds me of Touko from Bloom into you

RIGHT!

Honestly, my main thought during reading this was "Touko sure has changed..."

Inb4 Shiori is actually just Touko acting in a yuri-horror film after her career takes off, and this is all part of a production penned by Koyomi. Touko was hired because of her discipline at restraining herself from eating girls out until the time is right, and the play is a metaphorical take on her waiting for Yuu to gradually reciprocate her feelings. In other news, the year is 2040 and reality is officially a Bloom Into You spinoff.

Shizuka: The feathers in my costume are harvested from the plumage of a rare creature called the Angst Jay. It is a bird with pitch-black feathers that dwells exclusively in my skull and proceeds to crow in a progressively louder voice when certain people draw near. Recently, it has been growing rather infirm, but I am afraid it might lay eggs and spawn a host of new, small Angst Jays that will drown out my every waking thought with their warbling. I am not being metaphorical here. Every day I wake up to find feathers of pure Angst on pillows and in the bathroom. Please send help. Happy Halloween.

I've read enough yuri to be well-acquainted and rather exhausted with the 'secretly gay best friend who watches as her crush is carried off by a new girl trope', but Miko seems legitimately likeable. Maybe it's because she genuinely cares for her friend's mental health and actively takes measures to support and reassure her, whilst always respecting her boundaries instead of going all Manic Pixie Dream Girl. Whether she's secretly a monster hunter, someone who's had her family murdered by a mermaid, or maybe just secretly a mermaid/ human-mermaid hybrid, it'll be interesting see how she bounces off Shiori. At any rate, I hope she gets a happy ending and many rewards for being Buddy of the Year.

Also, did anyone else feel ridiculous amounts of sexual tension between Miko and Shiori? I wasn't rooting for either of them so much as I just wanted them to make out. Now that would be a great twist- our MC realizes that she doesn't need a designated Girlfriend(TM) to recover from depression, and can just flourish in a supportive group of friends, while Captain Emotional Support hooks up with Princess Undine.
