I’m wondering what you guys think about two fundamental things Touko repeatedly says that have never quite made complete sense to me, and that are linked in the latest chapter:

1) Yuu’s “kindness.” Specific quote: “I thought Yuu was the kindest girl in the world. Because she couldn’t love me.”

I understand why Touko thought that Yuu was someone she could love under her weirdly idiosyncratic criteria, but not why the word “kind” applies to her. “Safe” or “wonderful” or “special,” sure—but how exactly is Yuu being “kind”?

(I mean, Yuu is a kind person, but how does “not being able to love” = kindness? Is this a translation thing?)

I think it's something like:
“I thought Yuu was the kindest girl in the world. Because she [accepted my love for her and everything I asked of her even though she] couldn’t love me.”

To Touko, anyone who could do that had to either be in love with her or be extremely kind.

2) “Love is a chain.” This is a little more explicable, but still a bit contradictory. Paraphrased, Youko fears being loved because that means if she changes she will not be loved anymore. But that implies that Touko expects that she herself will change in the future, and when she does, she would stop being loved.

Touko, however, has devoted herself (she thinks) to never, ever changing—to always being the simulacrum of her sister’s (what we discover to be false) perfection. So why this extreme dread of what would happen if she changed?

Again, the second one is easier to explain as just Touko’s confused and distorted thinking, but it does seem odd that her central fear is based around an assumption that she will inevitably change when she seems to have devoted herself to not changing.

Hmm... back when Touko was trying to be her sister, she didn't fear changing. She feared that people fell in love with the image of her acting as her sister. And so, if people saw her as she really was, they'd stop loving her.

Right now, Touko has moved on past that. And now she is changing. She accepted change. Now she fears that people who love her as she is will stop loving her once she changes.

You people don't understand. The eyebrow trimming is not an apology, but an act of revenge. Revenge for not bringing gay manga.

"Bring me the gay goodies, or your eyebrows will suffer!!"

I love how we spend so much time debating about the personalities of fictional characters. It's at the very least proof of how skillful Nakatani is at storytelling. <3

My ex was... FF cup, I think. She had back pain and often talked about breast reduction, so I think too big is a serious problem.

On the other hand, I'm A/B cup and I too can relate to this. I think it's great that I can lay comfortably on top of my breasts, but I wouldn't mind some extra centimeters.

P.S. Hmm... I've kept up with Citrus. The ending is looking to be fantastic. (<-- sarcasm) I'm still going to miss it because it's linked to Fluttering Feelings in my head (heart) due to timing. ... (ಥ﹏ಥ) ...Point is I have yet to find a new bar for good yuri, personally. I'm reading whatever's not off putting.

I've been reading some lovely LGBT webcomics lately. Have you read Always Human or Go Get A Roomie?

Seems a bit odd honestly, why stick the Yuri into a Straight Hentai magazine, instead of say, a magazine that focuses on Romance, Shoujo or the like, since more crossover is likely to happen there.

What is the word most searched for in porn sites everywhere? You guessed it, "lesbian". Straight guys seem to have a fetish with us (ugh, leave us alone people).

On the other hand, straight romance is aimed mostly at straight girls, and the majority of straight girls don't like lesbian stuff. And considering the homophobic world we live in, having yuri in straight women magazines could even affect sales negatively.

Her constant focus on her problems resulted in her treatment of others being clumsy to say the least, though she still did fairly well being a(n oblivious) friend to Sayaka and a(n oblivious) friend/lover to Yuu.

I think this is what bothers me about her. I know Touko genuinely loves You, it's just that... Touko is a nice person in general, but she's a bit selfish, she doesn't take an interest in the problems of people around her. And Yuu is just this perfect fluffy wonderful gal who cares about others, so I'd rather she found someone like that too for herself.

But that would make no sense at this point in the story, particularly because we're already headed towards the final chapters, so it wouldn't do to change the direction of the plot so radically now. Touko/Yuu isn't bad either, they love each other and all, it's just that, personally, I think Yuu is too good for Touko.

I DOUBT the coming-out phase will be a big focus at all in the manga to come. I feel like if Nakatani wanted to write about that aspect she would have added in more foreshadowing or worries of what friends/family might think earlier on in the manga.

Yeah, I agree. It just doesn't feel like Nio to throw in coming out drama. It's been done far too often. If she does it then it'll be very minor in the plot.

Well if there are people in this world capable of liking Citrus, you're allowed to like whatever you want. (Except loli/shota, you're not legally allowed to like that in a number of countries).

How can she just now suddenly realize that she's been doing bad things to Yuu like it never even crossed her mind? And how it is relevant at all to whether that person loves her or not? So sexually ab(using) strangers or people that don't care about you is totally ok?

Because Yuu has been explicitly consenting to all of Touko's advances, like others have pointed out. She agreed to having this relationship with her. Have you ever heard of friends with benefits?

Yuu's love for Touko is so strong and selfless that she'd set aside her own feelings and needs just to be able to help her loved one. I kinda wish she had a caring lover to support her instead of Touko. Someone who loved her wholeheartedly and stood always by her side, just like she did for Touko.

Oh I so hope it does. I love these unrequited-but-actually-requited love stories. We've been waiting for this moment for years, I want to see Yuu and Touko suffer some more.

Also, I too want to see Rei consoling Yuu, and I agree Sayaka should have an important part when she and Touko are travelling together.

Big question though: why isn't Yuu crying?

Psychoanalyzing fictional characters is always a bit silly, but I think the term that best describes Yuu's behavior is demi-sexual. Demi-sexuals are people who only develop a sexual attraction to others after they have formed a strong emotional connection with that person.

We've already debated this in an earlier post. We have no idea what Yuu's sexual attraction is like, we only know about her romantic attraction. If you argue Yuu developed a romantic attraction to Touko after a long time getting to know her, then you could say she's demi-romantic. But Maki-san has stated right at the beginning of the story (chapter 7 I think) that Yuu was also in love with Touko, even back then. So it's not like she and Touko were just friends and she slowly began to develop romantic feelings for her, those feelings were always there, they just grew stronger and more evident with time.

Idc if this was yuri or not, I only know that it was funny. Haruka has the ultra mega gay, and Minami is likely bi (they exist you know). Believe me I'm usually allergic to guys in wlw fiction but this doesn't trigger any alarms. And it involves no lesbians being cucked or killed. If they just wait a few years it has a good chance of blooming into a totally wholesome poly relationship. Seal of approval. Anime now pls.
