"That slap was a joke. go on laugh"

Well goddam that escalated quickly

That was honestly my favourite part of this manga. It really got the point across.

I'm reading the raws now. There's tons of subtext and cute characters, so I'm really into it! Would be nice if it we could get it here on DS, too.

Hey Malibu, I think you messed up the grammar in that first sentence.

Come at me bro! I'll put you in the ground!!!

I wouldn't mind you pinning me to the ground, onee-san

Well, I could do that...

You still get all the context you need through the text. If something would be vague without proper context, then context is given. Despite how it may seem, Japanese is actually very logical and easy to understand, once you grasp it. It's just like how even in English, a fluent speaker can easily understand "caveman speech", or people with bad english, because so much of "proper" English (and many languages in general) is superflous. If you see someone on their driveway washing their car, and ask them what they're doing, the answer "I wash car" would be 100% understandable, even if it sounds awkward and is grammatically wrong. A lot of grammar is simply there because it always has been. For example, the word "the" is almost always superflous, because context makes it obvious whether you're talking about cars in general, or a specific car.

I talk too much when it comes to language... :p

Yes. I don't even live in an English-speaking country. x)

If nothing else, Ropponmatsu, this is an interesting peek into the mechanics of translation.

Japanese is one of those languages that make sense when you know what it means, but if you try to explain it, it sounds really damn weird, lol. I did my best. >_<

Good gawd, this shite never ends...=_="

The original text is "まだ半年も働いてないのに". Let's break this shit down, alright?
[ ] shows words added to make sense in English.

"まだ" means "not yet".
"半年" means "half a year".
"も" is a particle that roughly translates of "even/as well/also".
"働いてない" is the negative present continuous form of "働く", thus it means " [am] not working".
"のに" means "although/in spite of".

"まだ半年も" becomes "[not] even half a year yet".
Add the rest to that, "まだ半年も働いてないのに", and the straight translation becomes "Not [been] working [here] [for] even half a year yet". From the context, we know that Hinako is talking about herself, thus " [I] [have] not [been] working [here] [for] even half a year yet.", and turning that into more proper and fluid everyday English, we get, "I haven't even worked here half a year".

And no, that's not ambiguous. <.<

All Morinaga Milk stories take place in the same universe. It's a magical realism / urban fantasy thing where little demons exist whose task is to prevent girls from communicating with each other. Hijinks (and tears) ensue.

Well we can't just have characters being happy, now can we? ;p

PS
I'm sorry for jumping to wrong conclusions though and hurting the TL's feelings. I sure could've presented my original concern in less arrogant, more respectful and friendly manner. I'll try to keep it in mind in the future.

It wasn't my feelings that got hurt. I'm chill, yo. x)

I've only finished the routes for one character so far (Nao), but her "bad" ending isn't really bad, just amusingly messed up, lol. Her good ending is a cute and statisfying conclusion.

While I can't speak for the other character's routes, there are some pretty major twists in general. I really liked it though.

The next chapter, both of them get boyfriends, get pregnant, and have shotgun weddings. They never talk to each other again. The End

True story.

Actually, the drama doesn't really hamfisted at all, in my opinion. It might seem that way when you can't read all chapters back to back though.

@takachi
She means since she started working there, i.e. since chapter one.

I was very suspicious when I didn't see any incriminating tags like Ecchi or NSFW for a manga by Watashiya, lol. Probably the most tame I've seen so far. I liked it though.

So I've seen one clip from the anime, and personally I usually regard the Lolicon + Age Gap tag-combo with suspicion, even more so when the Ecchi tag is there. Do I have anything to fear if I decide to read it, or are they surprisingly underplayed?

Heh... heheheh... No, it's kinda in your face, lol. x)

Edit: Also, the yuri stuff is only played for laughs and never leads to anything, and there is het out the ass. :/

There are a ton of great one shots you can find on the site, but if you're looking specifically for series, try some of the ones by Morishima Akiko and Hakamada Mera.

Edit: If you don't mind one shots, I'd definitely recommend you check out Yonurime, even if you're not into Touhou.

While the translation was indeed rather awkward, there can never be too much Reimu x Yukari. x)
