It's Mashima pushing herself for the sake of her girl that makes this series for me. Seeing the vulnerable sides in contrast to the "cool" sides and not for a comedic purpose.

With that out of the way, the oneshot was pretty cool. If only it could achieve greatness by pacing itself a bit better. Sadly it had the usual oneshot issue of jumping too far ahead in a span of a page.

The first chapter of the serialization looks... Promising. It has a different approach to things. Clearly, the vampirism rules were changed since she was bitten but weren't outright changed. Unless the original had the same rule(s) and I just missed that. With so many characters (since I assume the ghost maids will be characters) around it's guaranteed to turn hectic and hopefully fun. The first two pages gave me a feeling like I was about to read a manhua (or however you spell it). Something about the way it was colored.

I'll nitpick and say that Matilda claimed that this was the only opportunity she had for work and when given 3 simple rules she immediately broke them. Clearly, she went full out on her curiosity disadvantage or just failed a normal roll.

I can't wait for the spinoff light novel of this series from Mei's perspective. It'll be written entirely in binary code

I just hope that the other chapters in this collection don't disrespect the big-eared seal like this one had.

This really turned from "Haha silly/annoying girl and her obsession with a perfect Yuri world" to someone who projected heavily because of believing that her feelings were "wrong to be had" outside of some kind of fantasy she herself could enjoy.
I'd never suspect this to go in such a "real" direction. Getting talked "by society" into believing one truth, no matter how against your own feelings it might be. Later ending up feeling unfulfilled or outright frustrated by it.

I'm just happy to see that she received some support and it pushed her over the edge to try and confront Yoshioka

Ah yes, nothing like some over-the-top acts of hatred to make me roll my eyes. We couldn't just go with the passive-aggressive behavior of people to make a "nice" aura of intimidation and unfriendliness. We had to involve a bunch of teenagers(?) who were trying to sell a kid(?) witch into slavery to a brothel.
I guess we had to have something for the dum people and people who will argue things based on subtle hints and not outright hard evidence someone can hit them in the face with. While I hoped for more I expected as much.

Just a drop of my disappointment, I still love this and want to see more.

I mean she liked her back then and "forgot" about her... But then when she "found" her again she still fell for her, so I don't see a problem here.

It's cute and chill. I also appreciate how the cool girl is grounded in reality so far. Just a girl with her own style.
