Is a page missing?

Not to gripe but the official tl for chapter 4 has some extremely weird choices that make me wish I knew what the original lines were in Chinese. Like some "I've never seen this in scans before" stuff but not in a way that screams translation error.
Glad we've still got the option of the excellent scans here

I love this series to bits, I really do. But right now I feel like a whole story arc was missing. That day, at the beach, when the system made Yvonne cut Elsa, when she was forced to face the fact that she was a terrible danger to Elsa, she made a hard decision: cut all ties with Elsa, make her leave the house and never speak to her again. It was all for Elsa's own good. Yvonne was especially cruel that day, since she wanted Elsa to hate her... and when Elsa finally left, heartbroken and in tears, Yvonne was like "Good! Mission accomplished!"

IIRC a previous note from the uploader around when they released that chapter said that the author has gone back and inserted content between early novel chapters, and then that stuff has gotten inserted into the comic where it went chronologically. That's probably why it doesn't have clean continuity and the plot thread is just sort of dropped, it was a late addition.

My guess is it was meant to emphasize the maliciousness of the villainness system since it can be easy to view it as mischievous if you forget the periodic bits where instead of telling Yvonne to bully her it tells Yvonne to maim or kill her.

At this point it would’ve been easier to tell Elsa about the villainess system than break both of your hearts with this lie.

I feel like with the stuff she's been doing lately the villainess system must be really threatening her. The last time she disobeyed it caused her whole family to get exiled and previously it tried to kill Dorothy, so maybe it threatened Dorothy again?

Sheesh, even Garth, who has known Elsa for all of 20 minutes, immediately sees it, and Evie is still willfully blind to her feelings.

She 100% knows and that's why she's doing something this desperate, IMO

I honestly just want consistency with the villainess system. It's just so conveniently put in place just for the sake of plot. It's such a lazy writing.

I mean, it's certainly a blatant plot contrivance but I can easily see it as a stereotypical vengeful/jealous god - plans beyond your understanding, vindictive punishment for disobedience, unreasonable demands like sacrificing your own children. In this case it has litrpg framing but to me that makes it more unsettling because you can imagine it as something a human designer/writer would inflict on others

The box birds ate their fear, right? I can't imagine what else it would be and they're more preoccupied with the other side and more confident now, which feels like it's a way to make them more vulnerable.

Vilainess System, the greatest yuri wingman

really good news if it doesn't... it really is the greatest yuri wingman for this story

Now I'm wondering whether the villainess system got fed up and decided to pick a new girl to order around that would actually pick the nasty choices

This bothered me so much that I just had to create an account to comment...

Now just from where did these bitches come from!?

Although, judging from the fact that they have the heart-shaped transformation devices instead of the star ones (at least two of them do), they are magical girls. Anyway, while I do NOT feel these three's entrance, even though it does make sense, I sure do hope that is not the end for Uthena and Venalita, and most certainly NOT at the hands of these three new completely unrelated-to-the-main-cast characters. Because THAT would be a terrible end to an otherwise long build-up. This is what Vena and his intentions with Uthena have always been, as had has been hinted before. So, I would to want it to end just like that.

The one in the middle also has stars + her outfit is kind of frayed at the edges, and the one on the left kind of has traces of a destroyed magical girl outfit mixed with a corrupted vibe like magenta (those ribbons aren't attached to clothing, they're in her skin)
So they might all be magical girls or something in between.
Now that I look again the one in the middle also has kind of an exhibitionist outfit which is something the author hasn't done with the magical girls so far.

This is not entirely lore-accurate as Kroos were the leader for the three of them (Fang, Kroos, Beagle) before they came to Rhodes Island. Fang is more likely to depend on Kroos, not the other way round.

Anw, knowing what happened to their team makes this not so happy anymore :(

Are you referring to lore from the CN server? Because the dusk event thing was an illusion

wha- does that mean that the author thinks incestry isnt wrong? or am i just understanding this completely wrong lmao

Well, I can't read the author's mind so dunno what she thinks but the story at least doesn't see it as wrong

There's a lot of morally questionable stuff in this series that the characters don't take a clear stance on, but some of the internal monologues we miss in the manga make it (imo) clear that the author does not agree with the characters about it. Rae in particular has bad politics and/or is just plain wrong about many things, and when you get different perspectives they usually have a better position on things and often correct her explicitly - she is a very flawed heroine.

I do still think the author has weird politics that show through in the work, but it's not as bad as it looks at first glance. On the current theme though, uh,

Just an FYI for people who are considering whether to drop this based on the current chapter's events: While I still like this series, it repeatedly touches on sensitive/complex topics from here out, some of which probably deserve content warnings of their own. I'm sure the related chapters will get appropriate tags when they appear here and I don't want to spoil any details, but if you're hoping the series will return to being fluffy you should know that it will continue taking swings like this.

Ricchan and Heidi are approaching "get it over with, you two" at this point when it comes to their treatment of Shino and Nozomi

The arrows going away entirely is so boring. If this series was really firing on all cylinders, she'd be able to see her own arrow and be freaking out about it constantly.

We never do get much of a sense for how those two feel about each other, it's usually W or Kal interacting with the Doctor. I buy it

Interesting choice to put the gate literally in front of her door, it's the obvious place for it but in the anime they put it in her yard. Certainly feels more threatening to have it right there

This series definitely has a different vibe now that it's "waiting for her to confess"

I always wondered what was going on in chapter 2. Why is their relationship a crime? Is it due to the age gap specifically, or are there special rules regarding same-sex relationships there? A casual search couldn't turn up any explanation for this

Minami is a minor, at least in regards of the Japan's laws.

If we talk about the law in Japan, here's an handy chart about how it's interpreted.

But most of the time, 18 is the norm and I doubt Iori would have any problem, unless Minami's parents wanted to be assholes.

Interestingly, the chart doesn't mention gay relationships.

Makes sense, thanks! Remarkably sensible approach to teens being irresponsible together compared to how it is here. I can imagine the walking disaster Iori just assuming the worst possible outcome here

Because I happened to learn this today, part of the reason why Blue Poison and Glaucus get paired up so much is that they're both poisonous and Glaucus Atlanticus is actually able to utilize other creatures' poisons for its own purposes
