Frankly I liked this development all the same. Neeko has an ally now, someone who's close enough to her lifestyle to understand where she's coming from but also distanced enough to have a realistic perspective on how to fix the problem; even if she can't be blunt about it, it still feels like she could be a positive influence here. As has been said before, romance is pretty much the last thing Neeko needs right now, so I'm not disappointed at the lack of it this chapter. Doesn't mean they can't be shipped further down the road, anyway. ;)
I love the artstyle here; somehow those pointy noses work better than they should. Really sweet one in general, this is definitely going in my favorites!
I feel kinda bad for Maki in this one, having her feelings jerked around like that. Unless Nico's inner monologue there was another layer of self-denial, like the ending seemed to imply... At any rate an amusing one with some great panels, but kind of a bitter aftertaste.
(Clearly this means we need a sequel where Nico finally reciprocates genuinely)
