It's always been rapidly jumping forward. Getting two chapters that are directly following each other is very rare in this series ^^;

Yeah, but last chapter was Aya fucking around and get being avoidant, now suddenly they're at a concert live they're best buds and the tension between them is gone.

It feels more disconnected than my recollection of earlier chapters where, even if they weren't directly sequential, they had a logical throughline that you can follow the plot easily. ¯⁠\⁠_⁠(⁠ツ⁠)⁠_⁠/⁠¯

It was a little easier when it was just one constant mistaken identity storyline/gags sure, but there still are things linking the story together currently and there's always been an ongoing question to why Mitsuki is in her situation.

I'm saying the connective tissue between these two chapters is weak.

I can agree that this would be improved by spreading it across a few chapters, but not TOO many. This feels like... eight chapters max, and at least two of those should be after they figure out they're down bad for each other.

I wonder if Yuu and Sara will swap off on which girl they're... handling... for more fun in the upcoming calamity of Hinoka and Tsukushi trying to perform orbital rendezvous?

I hope they figure out a way for the "Villainess" to do magic. That'd be a good way to really upend the original plot.

Does she need to, though? As long as she can control her La Verita, Baiser the best antagonist Tres Magia et al. can ask for, as she exists solely to highlight or even to bring out their heroic qualities. Sure, the whetstone grates on the blade but you wouldn't want to trade it in for another blade because they'll both get dull eventually.

"Need" is a strong word. But "want"? Refer back to the very first pages. Utena never WANTED to be a villain. She seems to have accepted this side of herself by now, but if we consider her character, I think it's a very plausible situation for her to have in mind. Utena doesn't just consciously follow narrative convention, she outright enforces it, so an ultimate final showdown has to be on her mind. And what happens after that?

The most likely thing I can imagine is she's eventually faced with a big Choice. ... and being this manga, she'll probably take a third path anyway. Maybe the light and dark mascots will both turn out to be terrible grifters and we get a crazy teamup that dissolves the boundaries of heroism and villainy, I dunno.

But seeing as she's guided Enorme to the light, maybe the next step in her mind is trying to do the same with Matama and Nero?

Indeed, what a terribly unrealistic intrusion on this normally meticulously sensible manga. The randomness just jars in this setting dominated by thoughtful long-term character arcs. Who would have thought this mangaka would stoop to shallow, titillating lewdness?

Personally, I think it really said a lot about how Mongolian throat-singing has been impacting by coal mining in East Asia.
