More like she recognized Utsugi from the student files and seems to be generally concerned about the kid. Which considering Akutami is the school nurse likely implies she's been briefed Utsugi is someone who may need keeping an eye on in general due to as-yet unspecified issues (that mugshot certainly didn't look like a very happy child...). All the more so as she's now hooked up with the volatile and rather obviously troubled Hiiragi.

I mean, I've heard it's an unfortunate stereotype. I am not Asian, nor a parent, nor an Asian parent, so I am unsure of the validity. I've both heard from Asian friends that yes it's a thing and no, it's kinda a bad stereotype. So who knows.

It probably says something how readily the neologism tiger parenting - coined by a Chinese-American - seems to have resonated back in Asia and how common authoritarian parents checking the boxes were in popular fiction from there long before. Generally speaking if a societal trope appears frequently in a particular context as a sort of given without any particular need for background elaboration it's something much of the audience is assumed to be able to relate to.

West Taiwan's particularly insanely high-pressure college entry exam system and thinly veiled Social Darwinist tendencies sure as shit aren't helping any in that particular context. I remember reading a bit of news sometime over the last year the governement was outright getting worried about the amount of money families sink into prepping their kids for that shit (by way of cram schools and tutoring and whatnot, in extreme cases starting from like elementary school) and had started looking into ways of curbing that; fat chance of anything working given it's an entirely natural logical result of their own socioeconomic and educational paradigms.

You're reading a Yoshitomi Akihito manga; [visible confusion] is a perfectly normal reaction and no cause for alarm.

MHY in general uses an unobtrusive monetization model in their games that I like, or at least, can live with. Paying even a cent is entirely optional and basically just makes things faster - no limited character slots or inventory space etc. that can only be expanded with ye olde filthy lucre for example, unlike in any number of other MMOs I've played.

"Not present ingame" doesn't equal "does not exist in the setting" seeing as how the former is a function of system and developement resources. It's not hard to discern from the lore that the geographical (and by extensions demographical) scales in-universe are actually considerably greater than the by necessity rather abbreviated gameworld, too.

That's the price to pay for a "seamless" openworld not split into clearly separated zones; in the latter the rest of the population and geography and whatnot is much simpler to handwave into the gaps. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

^tedious farming for junk needed for progressing in whatever isn't exactly limited to GI though, or even online games in general. Plenty of purely offline singleplayer games go for it bigtime too. (Coincidentially or not Asian devs seem to be really fond of it.) Certainly just about industry standard for MMOs though already for progression pacing reasons - players, or at least the tryhard types who speedrun new content within three days of release tops, tend to whine enough about lack of ye ever-nebulous "endgame content" and "things to do" as is.
