All Majere stated was that some people don't enjoy the series and gave a few reasons as to why. They never went anywhere near criticizing people that do enjoy it. Please don't pursue that line of argument; it goes nowhere and benefits no one.

Even though I used it myself, I'll concede that "rape-y" may be too heavy a term. But the series is still creepy and inappropriate in quite a few ways.

Some people won't like it because of those things; there's nothing wrong with that.

Some people like it in spite of - or even because of - those things. Nothing wrong with that, either.

I think it's because despite the sleaziness the series manages to be endearing and have a positive underlying message. (Crazily enough, it might even be because of the sleaziness.) Hishikawa is pushy - even sexually offensive at times - which would usually turn you off as a reader. But the text clearly criticizes her actions rather than romanticizing them. Hishikawa gradually learning the error of her ways (e.g. overvaluing a partner's virginity) is her primary form of character development, and you root for her to make her way along that path. She starts out cringey, but the story is about how she learns to stop. She's a genuinely lovable lecher, which is pretty rare.

Also I am in love with Komaki but that would require an entire essay for me to elaborate on properly.

welp that was creepy in the non-consensual rape kinda way

Being a little pushy is not rape. There's literally nothing wrong with a little verbal propositioning. Hishikawa hasn't crossed the line when pushed back by Komaki. If you pay attention, it's obvious Komaki is the one in control at all times. The part where Komaki was actually assaulted was all in Hishikawa's imagination. Sorry for the rant, but people who call every little thing rape seriously bother me. No offense.

The problem is, Hishikawa is being more than "a little pushy."

Between her slipping money into Komaki's clothes without the latter's knowledge (could very well be charged as sexual assault, at least here in the States), and Hishikawa's little fantasy, the first chapter had pretty heavy connotations of rape. Regarding the second chapter: propositioning sex to a person is okay. Repeatedly and aggressively doing so after they've said no is not okay; that's sexual harassment. These things are played for comedy within the series, but by their nature they will fall flat with a lot of readers.

The humor is centered around Hishikawa's desperate, unrestrained, comically absurd sleaziness combined with her complete ineffectuality. She hasn't shown herself to be dangerous, and isn't in any position of power or authority over Komaki. So she ultimately comes off as non-threatening, which helps ease things a bit. In fact, Komaki holds all of the cards when Hishikawa tries to bargain: the running gag is the latter trying to drive a ridiculous bargain and making a fool of herself in the process. It's cringe comedy.

For the record, I find the series entertaining. But other readers will be very turned off by it, and I can respect that.

P.S. "Non-consensual rape" is a very ATM-machine phrase.

Asuka x Tomoko is nice, but always seemed like a far-fetched pairing. At least until the most recent chapter.

It may not go anywhere, but there's a bit of fuel for this ship.

I'll never understand people who play MMOs on console.

I never really noticed the controller until now. I thought MMOs on the console were a jokes that died with Final Fantasy XI (I actually know of no others). Granted I don't play many games myself anymore (only a handful of GOG games, plus some DOS, and occasionally an English-patched Touhou game).

The PC gaming industry and audience in Japan is very anemic. If MMOs want to sell in Japan, they pretty much have to be on consoles.

It's like watching two trains wreck but the trains are on a bridge and then they fall off and land on a third train and also all the trains are full of dynamite.

So yeah, I'm interested in seeing where this goes.

I'll be honest, the frequent pee/humiliation gags about the actress are starting to get to be a turn-off for me.

This is like the third time or 4th? If we remove the verbal jokes about pissing.
I don't even understand why it's played so much, the duo couple was already good enough, she's turning into a joke character when there wasn't any need.

At this point I don't even care if her and the manager become a couple, so long as she stops being humiliated all the time.

I consider myself something of a cringe connoisseur, and I agree that while it was fun at first, the joke's worn thin.

Well, the guardian says something about being a dad/mom together, so if you yuri-googles with extra zoom and are slightly mad you might consider that to be subtext.

I can turn my yuri goggles up easily, it just surprises me that I have to do so for an Itou Hachi story.

I barely picked up on any romance at all, even subtext. It came across as a very cute story about a girl with a foster mother going through puberty.

Well, it was cute barring the implied mensephagia.

So the Japanese equivalent of a B-Movie?

Specifically, B-movies that heavily involve sex or sexual themes.

That's a bit disappointing. I know the artist(author?) had a piece of yuri art with these two kicking around and I had hoped that had worked its way into the show a bit more.

There's official art with lots of subtext, and some production staff even go as far as publishing bits of yuri fanart as personal pieces. But lesbian romance (or romance of any kind) isn't a focus of the series, at least according to the Word of God.

That is cute!

Though I'm slow and confused. When asked if Girl A had operation - she seemed to deny it with the "X" dialogue bubble. But on the latter part it seems she really did - and it was because Girl A adored Yuri relationships so much. So which is which?

I interpreted it as the trans girl having not gone through genital surgery, but transitioned in other ways (other surgeries, hormone therapy, etc.)

She may have a certain set of genitals, but as the protagonist says, she's perfectly female.

In Japan it is illegal to have hormones or surgery for being transgender if you are under 21

I'm guessing people can skirt the law by having procedures done outside of the country.

Also, I don't see any direct, explicit evidence for this story to take place in a particular country (or exact point in time).

Last but not least, it's a fictional narrative.

Tomoko is indeed visibly bruised, bleeding, and crying; seems to be the artist extrapolating Yuri's mildly violent tendencies in the series. I also vote for a Ryona tag.
